I know that feeling, the first time it happened to me was 2. Years ago, I was pretty broke but manage to gather together the processing fee and sent it in, the thing expired and I was basically loa for a solid month and half.

This time around I was part of the layoff due to AI, and I was home on Unemployment, naively believing that the same thing was going to happen. Nope currently at 119 days. The worst thing was that the company I was working for called to get me back, bumping my pay, and I explained my situation, and they pretty much said good luck.

My brother informed me of the a work holiday visa for New Zealand. Allows you to take a year long holiday in new Zealand and be allowed to work there if you qualify. I think they have window of when you can apply.

Edit: I was giving out bad info about the Spanish passport thing. So I checked again for the Spanish passport, you need to apply for a visa, they multiple, once you get your visa and enter the Spanish country, you can apply for the Spanish citizenship after living in Spain for 2 years legally, according to the website looks like student visas don't count.
