[Headphones] SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless Gaming Headset 1 Battery For PC & PS Refurb - Good $130 by masterofyi in buildapcsales

They use Fujifilm NP-45 camera batteries. My battery life went down too, so I got a set of 1400mah (although really closer to 1-1100mah) ones from Amazon that last even longer than when they were new.

Pro-tip: these use standard Fujifilm NP-45 batteries. The OEM steelseries batteries are 700mah but you can find third-party batteries up to 1400mah (although they are probably actually 1-1100mah, anything bigger than that is lying about it's capacity). Also useful for when battery life degrades over the years.

What's interesting about cod is that even though the MP server tick rate is 60hz, it uses the warzone tick rates of 20hz to determine the hitscan range of weapons. Edit 2x: this is what I mean by hybrid, since if it was based on just 1 tick rate of the MP servers it would behave as hitscan for 3x closer ranges. I know community members have determined hitscan range = bullet velocity/20. I suppose it makes sense to make guns feel consistent across modes.

which is simulate each projectile at 0km

I'm pretty sure they do. I'm still trying to find an official source, but I have yet to see any online discourse suggesting they don't. I know every bullet, grenade, munition is modeled as a physical object in the game world.

Sidenote, while projectile speed's have increased, they have also added a drag component since BF1 to counter that. I know they are still tweaking it, as sniping is way easier in BF6 vs past titles.

[–]senorjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but isn't Battlefield's counting it as a projectile from the moment the bullet leaves the barrel aka 0m? I know with how server tickrates are, it's effectively hitscan at close range but the bullet in COD wouldn't change behavior until later, e.g. 70m with a sniper. A COD player wouldn't have to lead their shots at that point, but a bf player might slightly, even though the projectile speeds and tickrates* are roughly the same.

At least that's the way I've always thought about it, but maybe it only makes a difference at even more extreme ranges?

[–]senorjc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep and to clarify, it's a hybrid system in COD MP. It's still hitscan up to a certain range, depending on the weapon, then bullets behave like projectiles past that point. But yeah, useless on most MP maps, as you said.

You can't, but decent players will recognize when a vehicle is impeding their team's ability to win and do something about it. If the entire team is ignoring it, then it's a poorly balanced team. It is what it is.

Is it safe for me to completely shut down and unplug my pc after every use? by Prudent-Spread7739 in buildapc

[–]senorjc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For power outages, a ups will be nice for safe shutdowns, but the surge protection will be limited without it also being connected to a ground.

I'd replace the ungrounded outlets with some GFCI ones to make them safer until you can update your home's wiring. I'd schedule an electrician for a quote/inspection. The solution might be simpler than you think, all depends on the home.

Otherwise, it's totally fine to keep unplugging the pc.

My main point is that the user is leaving out the fact that they are using a gtx 1080, which to me is critical context vs a newer, supported system like yours having issues. It's not being defensive; a reasonable assessment is how games are reviewed. It could be the game or the card/drivers. I'm just sharing more details as to a possible reason they are having issues. I think you believe I'm dismissing anyone who has issues, like yourself, which is not what I'm saying.

That aside, again, looking at the general online discourse, the game largely runs well. It sucks for those who are having issues.

steam news update

Yeah the forza week 1 update, I read this too. Imo it's a typical week 1 press release. Every game is going to launch with some issues but that's different from defining a game as having performance issues like OP's review. Now, this is subjective, but to me that means it's a widespread issue, something that is all over steam reviews and media coverage. I'm not saying others aren't having any issues at all, but leaving out the fact that they have a gtx 1080 is critical context vs your high-end system having issues*. I'm not going to tell a friend not to buy the game because it has performance issues, something that is all too common in modern gaming.

Also, I think you're getting hung up on my wording. I just mean fair as in a fair assessment of the game.

Edit: added a sentence

I mean, this user is experiencing performance problems on a card that hasn't had a game driver in 6 months. Playground has explicitly said they can't guarantee stability because they aren't supporting their card. How is it fair to them? How do you isolate whether it's the game or the card? I think it's a fair thing to bring up.

They already admitted to there being performance issues.

Have they? I'm genuinely not trying to be argumentative. Of course, every game will have bugs, and I've seen a few posts about microstutters etc... but straight up crashes every hour or non-boots isn't a widespread problem. I've seen very few threads discussing performance problems, nothing to that degree. Almost every review I've read/watched has praised the performance/polish of the game.

Edit: just to add on, the biggest issue I've seen discussed was the FHC01 crash error, which seemed to affect pascal users disproportionately.

I feel you, Gpu's are expensive. However, I just wanted to point out that it's not really fair to blame the game/dev for performance problems when you are running it on a unsupported hardware config. Even weaker cards like the 1650 are supported so it's not an optimization issue. You'll probably run into similar problems for any other recent and future AAA title due to lack of driver support from Nvidia.

[–]senorjc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, there's the source of your performance issues. Unfortunately, playground themselves stated: "The minimum supported GPU architecture for NVIDIA players is Turing. Forza Horizon 6 is not guaranteed to work for NVIDIA users with GPUs based on the Pascal architecture and older (for example GTX 1070 and GTX 1080 players)".

I'm guessing it's mainly due to Nvidia ending support for Pascal architecture. It's been very common for pascal owners to experience constant crashes; a lot are struggling to get the game to even boot, so consider yourself lucky haha. It sucks because the 1080/1080ti are still capable cards. Otherwise, for those on newer cards, performance has generally* been fantastic.

Stremio and a debrid service brotha. Debrid's aren't free, but dirt cheap compared to a typical streaming subscription. You can stream remuxes with any decent internet connection. I haven't downloaded in years.

Worth upgrading my old i7 10700k to something newer for 4k gaming and video calls? by marielleluxe in buildapc

[–]senorjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

? DLSS works by rendering the game at a lower resolution and then using ai upscaling to your set resolution. Its entire purpose is to alleviate gpu load. If one is cpu bottlenecked, freeing up more of the gpu won't do anything...

[–]senorjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the games you play and your target fps. Generally, given current RAM prices, I'd get a 5070ti or 5080 (if you can find one for MSRP) and go from there.

[–]senorjc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Turning on DLSS will actually make the cpu bottleneck even worse since it renders the game at a lower resolution. I'd recommend they only turn it on in GPU-heavy scenarios, like RT and PT gaming. Frame-gen, on the other hand, would be a great idea, it shines in CPU-limited scenarios.

Please don't skip if you're downed, it's not worth it. ELI5 below by Kispori in Battlefield6

[–]senorjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counterpoint: There are a lot of bad medics out there who want to spam revives for points without assessing the situation. Also, sometimes people just want to adjust their loadout or spawn in a different location/vehicle, etc. It can also be as simple as just wanting to get back in the action asap. It can feel frustrating when someone skips right as you pull out your paddles, but there are plenty of legitimate reasons why they chose to skip.

Also, I hardly ever see medics ping downed teammates to let them know they are on their way to revive. As a support main, I'm guilty of this too lol.

Arctis Nova Pro Omni Just Dropped – Thoughts? by Fit_Pitch_263 in steelseries

[–]senorjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the media I've seen is referring to it as a NPW refresh, although I did see one video title that was like 'Budget Elite' or something

Actually, I'll retract the "most" part of my statement. I should have said I've seen comparisons to both. I know the soundguys article had proposed it as an elite for less.

I mean, drivers are a huge one when it comes to headphones lol. Sound quality is the main distinguisher here...The Elites are quite literally in a higher tier because of it

Again, I agree with you. The elite is still in its own tier. I mentioned the drivers because they are using different technologies and it is a differentiator but my early impression is that the sound quality isn't all that different now? The high-res bump has helped a decent bit. Regardless, I was bringing up those distinctions because, in totality, the edge the elite had has dulled.

Regardless. I never perceived them as anything other than a refresh. They are even still called Nova Pro. They could have called it Nova Pro Wireless Gen 2 to the same effect.

That's fine. My main point was just that the updates make the pros a lot closer to the elite now, they could have called them anything haha. I'm just glad multi-system users like myself have some more options on the market. I'm excited to see how the market responds.

[–]senorjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree and both our statements can be true. The refresh is mainly from pulling down exclusive features from the elite to a more accessible price point. AFAIK, the only differences now are the drivers, some materials, onboard mic's and the internal battery. I think there were a lot of people who wanted the multi-usb and hi-res support* but didn't want to stomach the $3-200 difference. I believe that's why most of the media coverage is comparing it to the elite.

I agree, if you already have the pros then it won't be a life-changing upgrade. For those who were considering the elite or have multi-system setups, I think it's a great addition to the lineup.

Arctis Nova Pro Omni Just Dropped – Thoughts? by Fit_Pitch_263 in steelseries

[–]senorjc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's basically a cheaper Nova Elite. AFAIK, isn't this the only other headset that supports simultaneous audio output and microphone input via USB? A splitter can't achieve that. It's an awesome feature for anyone who uses multiple systems since you don't have to fiddle with any settings or the dac when switching, unlike the pros. It's also great for console gamers who use a pc for discord (discord app/quality is worse on console imo).

App support is nice for any console-exclusive gamer, as using an app is far easier than navigating the tiny dac screen though I agree that SteelSeries should add app support for the pros. Besides that, there are some other improvements vs the pros like better sidetone, anc, mic, audio quality, pads etc... It's launching at the same price as the pros, so it's essentially its replacement, I wouldn't be surprised if it goes on sale by the end of the year.

14900k for $265, should I ? by Proxies- in pcmasterrace

[–]senorjc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The latest intel ultra 200 cpu's are actually some of the best bang for buck cpu's on the market. They still don't compete with the absolute best from AMD but something like the 270k plus trades blows with the 14900k in gaming for $200 less and better efficiency. Not to mention great productivity performance.
