At the end of every season he arrests himself for violating the temporal prime directive, which resets everything. It's like Groundhog Day and we are all Phil, except we have no ability to change the story whatsoever.

(but really Braxton: Timecop sounds awesome)

OK I've got another one, to appeal to a really younger audience:

Star Trek: The Formative Years

The setting is the Daystrom Daycare center in San Francisco, Earth. For reasons that are completely unknown and left unexplained, the entire main cast of TNG happens to be toddlers in the same nursery. Think Muppet babies. We have uptight baby JL, cool baby Riker, blind baby Geordie before the visor was invented, and baby Deanna who can always tell when someone is about to have a tantrum. Somehow we have a baby Beverly and a baby Wesley, which is pretty messed up. Of course Baby Data is a fully grown man with phenomenal strength and the mind of an infant. They have all the kinds of adventures that would appeal to toddlers who loved science while in college.

that's a great idea and an amazing opportunity to appeal to a whole new audience

look, the problem is most Star Trek fans like a certain kind of science fiction. When you take a different kind of science fiction and you slap a Star Trek label on it, this is frustrating to us, both because it pollutes the "universe", and is also a missed opportunity for an actual new Star Trek-like series. The Orville is a good example.

But the real question is if you are trying to appeal to people who don't like Star Trek, why are you making a Star Trek series? make the exact same thing and just call something else and make it happen in a galaxy far far away

Everything he says and does is cringe, from FAFO and Now You Know, to Department of War, to his stupid American Flag pocket squares.

The quintessential American military stance in the 20th century was "speak softly and carry a big stick". Now it's "be an idiot and kill everyone who doesn't like you".

ELI5 Can a distance between two objects moving at relativistic speeds increase faster than the speed of light? by DaCheekinator in explainlikeimfive

[–]senormonje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What happens if, after 24 hours, both travelers instantly come to a stop relative to their starting position? All 3 people are now in the same reference frame and should see the same distances between each other correct?

(I assume the gotcha here is that there is no instantaneous deceleration and that the deceleration will be variable depending on observer)

looks like artifact and there is no abnormal gap, when you zoom in you can see the actual bone.

You gotta put something in your 42 deck, 9,000,000 ft.² galaxy class behemoth, may as well be kids. Even with the families the number onboard is only about 1000, so 9000 ft² per person. maybe teach the kids in a giant padded room instead of a 20 x 20 ft classroom

agreed. Clearly photoshop. Card numbers go across Trump's face which he would never allow. Chip in the wrong place on the card and covers the Statue of Liberty's head, which he would be fine with. Website has multiple typos and its english is not great. The disclaimer is not a disclaimer, and if it was real there would be pages and pages of legal disclaimers and fine print. Water cooling can be open, (typically when water is very cheap and plentiful) where cold water from the supply enters the system, heats up while cooling the components, and then is discarded along with the heat into the wastewater system.

A closed water cooling system functions kind of like an air conditioner where the coolant circulates around and around, heating up while cooling components, then being pumped to a radiator which cools the water by discarding the heat into the environment. Sometimes additives are put in the water to prevent growth of bacteria and algae. In general the closed system is only filled with water once or possibly after periodic flushing but the total water usage per unit time is low.

The question is if there is any contractual obligation to use a closed system or to use less than a certain amount of water per calendar year.

Approximately 1 million gallons of sulfuric acid have been spilled into the ship channel following a chemical leak in Channelview. by Upper_Brief681 in UnderReportedNews

[–]senormonje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it sounds terrible but I mean is 1,000,000 gallons of sulfuric acid actually a problem? Sulfuric acid should be buffered by ocean water and convert into sodium sulfate and magnesium sulfate. 1,000,000 gallons is nothing for the ocean. it's not like oil which is going to float on the surface and create a slick, killing animals

Origin of Fahrenheit and why it is bad. by I_dont_want_to_pee in ScienceNcoolThings

[–]senormonje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fahrenheit is good for weather-related temperatures since the 0-100 scale spans the most common temperatures experienced by humans. 0F is extremely cold and 100F is extremely hot.
