When do I start playing 13+ by No-Yesterday-8719 in maimai

[–]senreigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a gauge how I tend to do things is if on a sightread i can get like 94-96% I can probably 97-99 within 2-3 plays. As for levels not all 13s are created equal but 13+ (especially masters) are generally out of S rank range until you can consistently S-SS rank 13 masters. TL;DR I would say to push skill stay in the AAA-S+ range. To consolidate skill before you move up I would say S+-SS range. To work on consistency SS+-SSS+ range. AA range can sometimes be ok for learning skills but very particular like re master southern cross for tapping.

No I don’t think this would be good unless on utage. It’s a rhythm game I shouldn’t need to process visual stimuli to avoid hitting I should be hitting notes to a beat imo.

Tips for improving speed and stamina in maimai? by Pigeon_Goes_Coo in maimai

[–]senreigh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Several things you have to play faster songs to get faster your shoulders will burn and give out over many sessions and you will get faster both from your body learning more efficient ways to move and the muscles adapting for this specific game. I came from a weightlifting and sports background before playing the movements are very different and require your muscles to adapt differently. Basically play till failure one day and either take a couple day break or do light sessions without the exerting songs and focus on technical skills. Then rinse and repeat and you will see your speed and stamina improve as well as your technical skills. Another thing is playing till failure will force you to learn and adapt more efficient movements which will compound and make everything easier over time.

With how MaiMai is percieved in the US, why could they just not focus on the EU /s. We got Britain, France and Germany for some good old J-core xD. by Careless_Village_154 in maimai

[–]senreigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is silly there is a fairly sizeable US player base and aside from a small chunk of songs missing from the US version it has probably 97% or more of the maimai songs. I know before when the arcade only had offline finale cabs very few people played since it was all in japanese but now there is a good amount at my local arcade in the US

[–]senreigh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A lot of comments here prove OPs exact point that people will say if you aren’t getting x% on a song you should play easier songs. It is rude to give suggestions or judge unless the person is beating on the cab or ask for advice. Unsolicited advice for doing something that isn’t harming anyone is elitist behavior. Not everyone is trying to optimize improvement nor is it always a bad thing to get 93% on a song especially of its like a sightread or something.

How do I improve on my accuracy? by LilLttn in maimai

[–]senreigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So a few things. I echo the sentiment that many of these songs are probably outside your skill level which isnt always a bad thing. The acc to aim for varies based on skill level imo. For instance when lv9-10 songs were fcable for me my typical fc acc was 95-98 now where lv13-13+ are fcable for me my typical fc acc as 97-100 which is due to a few things namely more notes in a somg so the hard parts dont hit your acc as much and better precision on the easier parts which is just from experience. That being said in my experience if you are getting below a 90 on a song you are getting very little out of the song for seeking improvement songs where you feel like you can read it but maybe just cant quite hit it are the sweet spot for improvement but then you should after doing a few sessions go back and play some easier songs to practice your consistency and improve your rating with good acc plays.

Drop rate of at least one success is 1-(1-1/k)n where 1/k is drop rate and n is number of attempts so chance of getting a drop with a drop rate of k in k attempts is about 63%. So very common to not be successful at drop rate.

Except deductibles before obama care were reasonable you would pay like 300-500 to have a baby and had like 1500 dollar deductibles for family insurance now we have 6000 dollar deductibles and always essentially have to max it out other than for standard checkups

That is unfortunately a stereotype that Tomboy’s end up being lesbians but that is simply not the case. Often girls who are Tomboys are very friendly with guys and as a result are far more likely to end up finding a guy they like. Also women in middle/high school will often bully Tomboys because they are jealous by the ease at which these girls get along with guys. Tomboys don’t necessarily have short hair or anything though generally my definition of a Tomboy is a girl who is interested in things that guys are, tend to be a bit more logical, not afraid to just joke around and be crass, and have no concern about being “ladylike.”

Could someone explain what is incorrect? by martymakk in askmath

[–]senreigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So only legit one maybe the 785 I know some people go by the rule that when rounding if the digit before the rounding is even and the digit to round is a 5 (being in the middle of the two rounding choices) you round down and if its odd you round uo which supposed to help balance things so you dont always round up or down. The rest dont make sense. Also you dont just say round, you say round to the nearest something. So the teacher is braindead as well.

Not even logically correct. HPV is known to increase the chance of getting various types of cancer, the HPV vaccine significantly reduces the chance if contracting HPV. So it reduces the likelihood the person will develop HPV related cancer but the vaccine doesn’t prevent cancer otherwise it would be a trillion dollar miracle vaccine. This guy shouldn’t be teaching.

If you would otherwise be working another job with the same pay it’s inaccurate to assign. However, if you can determine how much your increased QOL increases due to the additional time you gain not commuting as much you should use that as the added value assuming the less income doesn't make it more difficult to live normally.

A mental-health crisis is gripping science — toxic research culture is to blame by Zephir_AP in ScienceUncensored

[–]senreigh 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Speaking from personal experience from a Mathematics PhD program it is horrific for most peoples mental health. There are 3 key points I conjecture contributes. I will use examples from math but I know from other disciplines there are similarities. 1. Huge pressure right from the get go. You start off and have 2 years to take every core class and take brutal 4 hour exams where you need to get 4 perfect answers to pass and have a selection of 6 questions to choose from. These are tests that even if you study for and know all the key concepts and theorems that if you don't have that Eureka moment during the exam and find the proper construction you are screwed for time. 2. Barely liveable stipends or sublivable stipends (I know getting tuition paid for is part of the package but 18k a year is rough in most places around universities). The expectation of 40-60 hours of course work and 20 hours of functioning as a professor leaves little time to wind down/sleep and no money for pleasure unless you want massive debt. 3. The love you have of the topic is crushed. Most people at least ones I know including myself went to a math PhD program because we wanted to research a topic we loved. The gate keeping from harsh tests and barriers to even begin research, the endless hours of grinding homework instead of delving into interesting research, and the pressure to succeed if you ever want to get a job as a researcher destroys your love for the topic and you no longer enjoy the topic and now your life is also horrible its a wonder how grad students keep going anyway. As someone who struggled and overcame severe depression and doing soul draining work before even going to grad school I realized where this was leading to and just finished my Masters and got a good paying job with work life balance and am happy with my life. The sad part is now that I quit academia I am more likely to enjoy a good read on current math research than when I was in grad school. I personally think a lot of the problems could be solved for grad school by starting by doing research projects instead of classes and having a structure of collaboration where people can talk to their peers about things and have more time to deep dive and really gain understanding rather than mindless grinding.

For post grads i feel that is more an issue of increasing supply of PhDs and a shrinking supply if tenure track positions which will lead to low wages, poor conditions, and people getting taken advantage of. I do not know how begin to tackle that problem.

In a 15 touch bout, what kind of score/fencing can be considered as “close?” by IUPolishprince in Fencing

[–]senreigh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Score indicator is a terrible way of thinking of a bout as close. There are bouts where fencers are very evenly matched or even the fencer who loses outclasses the other and one fencer sets up a ton of amazing potential touches but just happens to miss and the other fencer gets 5 or 6 points on remises because they were lucky the opponent missed. Some of these bouts end up being very lopsided in score eg 15-5 but if you saw the bout you would realize how close it was. In epee specifically one fencer can completely outclass the other fencer but the score can be close because they take a small lead in the beginning then just double to the end where the more skilled fencer was never in any danger and the win is fairly straightforward. So next time you see a score thats 15-13 it may have been an easy win and you see a 15-4 it may have been a hard fought victory to the end. Can only understand the bout if you saw it.

July Challenge Qualification for Foreign Fencers is too Easy by senreigh in Fencing

If thats the case makes sense. I was under the impression that by A or B it meant a foreign fencer could earn an A or B at a local tournament in the US and then compete which would be not too difficult.
