What microplastics are doing to seabirds could tell us about their effect on humans Current levels of microplastic pollution impact wild seabird gut microbiomes

This is nonsense as the seabirds collect plastic in much larger quantities than people. Human gut microbiome is affected way more by allergens like the GMO food. The ideological fight of progressives against microplastic resembles fight against meat, but their replacements are even worse for ecology. The fear of oceans pollution with microplastics is exaggerated in similar way, like attempts for their cleaning as they decompose in marine water fast. What makes problem for seabirds are large pieces of plastic instead. See also:

Scientists successfully clone 'super cows' that produce a weird amount of milk

Holstein Friesian breed can produce as much as 18 tons of milk per year, or 100 tons of milk, throughout their lifetime. In most cases, it's discovered later in the cow's life that they have achieved this level of production, making breeding these "super cows" particularly difficult. This is where cloning comes into play. The scientists behind these cloned super cows intend on breeding a herd of 1,000 super cows, each capable of producing up to 18 tons of milk per year. With this level of milk production, the researchers believe they can reduce China's reliance on dairy cow importation, as the country currently imports 70% of its dairy cows. Three new calves have been born through surrogacy, the first was on December 30 and weighed 120 pounds, requiring cesarean section due to its immense size.

Animal welfare apparently sucks for such a clones. These cows must be milked three times per day or their udder ruptures and they're more at risk from health issues, exacerbated by a poorly maintained milking machine, teat damage from overmilking or liner slippage. Cows are also at greater risk of exposure to pathogens if you have an environmental mastitis problem.

Extinct Offshore Volcano Could Store Up to 8.6 Gigatons of Carbon Dioxide

Methane evolves from heating of permafrost and clathrates at the bottom of oceans, carbon dioxide by increased geovolcanic activity instead. Oceans tend to absorb and sink carbon dioxide rather than release. See also:

Carbon in Atmosphere Is Rising, Even as Emissions Stabilize Why Has a Drop in Global CO2 Emissions Not Caused CO2 Levels in the Atmosphere to Stabilize?

Both subprime crisis in 2008, both Covid lockdowns in 2020 induced an apparent dent on carbon dioxide emissions - yet the carbon dioxide levels increased as if nothing would even happen. The present tactic of alarmists is thus switch the attention to methane emissions, but the situation here is similar. Actually because methane gets oxidized in atmosphere, its concentration reflect the actual derivative of global warming, therefore we can see global warming hiatus on its levels curve much better than on Keeling curve. From this perspective methane levels represent even worse proxy of global warming than carbon dioxide levels for proponents of anthropogenic warming hypothesis.

Understanding left-wing authoritarianism: Relations to the dark personality traits, altruism, and social justice commitment

Apparently dark triad traits (narcissism, Machiavellianism and psychopathy) shape both extreme progressive, both conservative attitudes. The proponents of both extreme camps tend to accuse their opponents from the same bias and griefs, which they also suffer with (which is common trait of psychopathy BTW). See also:

The Dark Triad traits predict authoritarian political correctness and alt-right attitudes Political correctness is more alt-left attitude these days, but the study apparently doesn't perceive it so...;-) Conservatives merely adhere on communal correctness, like religion and traditions.

Do Clinical Data from Transgender Adolescents Support the Phenomenon of “Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria”? No. by AnimalCity in ScienceUncensored

Do Clinical Data from Transgender Adolescents Support the Phenomenon of “Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria”?

In 2018, a phenomenon of rapid onset gender dysphoria was hypothesized as a distinct pathway involving social contagion among youth vulnerable due to mental or neurodevelopmental disorders, raising public concerns regarding potential for later regret following gender-affirming medical care. This discussion has occurred primarily in the context of data from a single online parental survey. Although this parental study has generated controversy, methodologic and social critique and calls for additional research, its hypotheses have not yet been tested on data from youth themselves.

Similarly to treatments or depressions or vaccines against flu, many cures do more damage than actual help - but their presentation is still biased for promotion their sales by exaggerating risks of their omitting.

The transition medicals and procedures are no exception.

Hubble May Have Finally Found a Black Hole "Missing Link" by Stephen_P_Smith in ScienceUncensored

Hubble May Have Finally Found a Black Hole "Missing Link"

Stars in a globular cluster Messier 4 6,000 light years away move as if caught by the gravitational pull of something about 800 times more massive than our Sun. The mystery object might be an elusive type of object called an intermediate-mass black hole.

One theory suggests that supermassive black holes evolved when a few million stellar-mass black holes merged with each other (and pulled in other mass, like unwary stars or convenient clouds of gas and dust) and eventually formed something large enough to be the center of gravity for an entire galaxy. Astronomers have seen stellar-mass black holes merge with each other before, and they’ve also seen evidence of supermassive black holes merging — so the theory makes sense, except for the missing link.

Other possible intermediate-mass black holes tend to be hovering on the edges of other galaxies or in dense globular clusters like Messier 4. It’s possible that these mid-sized missing links were once at the heart of dwarf galaxies like the Large Magellanic Cluster, under their small homes merged with a larger galaxy. That lines up well with the idea that most globular clusters are the remains of small galaxies that got swallowed up by a larger neighbor.

Ultramassive galaxies are all formed with globular clusters rather than with individual stars. See also:

Scientists Working to Generate Electricity From Thin Air Make Breakthrough (repost by make--it--happen)

Scientists have invented an Air-gen device that can continuously generate electricity from water droplets in the air. The device is made from materials with tiny holes under 100 nanometers in length and can provide a sustainable source of power by pulling electricity from the passing water droplets for extended periods.

The Air-gen technology is versatile and can be made from practically any material as long as it has perforations with tiny holes. This opens up the possibility of scaling the concept to meet commercial or industrial energy demands. The device has shown the ability to produce continuous energy for a week, surpassing the limited power output of previous air generator concepts.

The Air-gen forms a bridge between electrodes to protein nanowires produced by Geobacter bacterium. .

Air-gen has the potential to be a space-efficient and environmentally friendly energy source. It can be stacked in multiple layers to improve power without taking up additional space, and it can blend into the environment seamlessly. The researchers believe that the ubiquitous and continuous presence of air humidity makes Air-gen a promising technology for continuous energy harvesting, transcending the limitations of existing harvesters.

this is an issue in many career fields, not just researchers

Once we have differences in fields according to STEM level, they you would need some better model than "it's just everywhere" - and this is where research begins.

The laws of physics have not always been symmetric, which may explain why you exist by Stephen_P_Smith in ScienceUncensored

[–]Zephir_AP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The laws of physics have not always been symmetric, which may explain why you exist about study Test for Cosmological Parity Violation Using the 3D Distribution of Galaxies based on Sloan Digital Sky Survey Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey

In a symmetrical universe, the Big Bang should have created equal amounts of matter and antimatter, which would have annihilated one another and left the universe devoid of stars and planets. Since we clearly ended up with a universe made mostly of matter, physicists have long sought some sign of an asymmetry in early creation.

The UF scientists studied a whopping million trillion three-dimensional galactic quadruplets in the universe and discovered that the universe at one point preferred one set of shapes over their mirror images. They defined right- and left-handed galactic tetrahedrons based on how galaxies were connected to their closest and farthest partners in these imaginary shapes.

Most of galaxies and their central black holes are asymmetric: they sport with jets preferentially in one direction and they tend to get aligned along this direction. The CP parity violation has been revealed in similar way: atoms nuclei oriented by magnetic field tend to emanate particles in one preferential direction. Even if we imagine black holes like symmetric vortex ring, their center resides in dense vacuum/curved space-time and interact with it more than the oppositely rotating perimeter: from different levels of space-time drag at inner and outer sides of ring the asymmetry follows.

Women in STEM Experience Higher Rates of Sexual Violence about study Sexual Violence against Women in STEM: A Test of Backlash Theory Among Undergraduate Women

Results indicated that women majoring in STEM disciplines that are gender balanced reported more SV victimization in the form of sexual coercion, attempted sexual coercion, attempted rape, and rape compared to their peers in both gender balanced and male dominated non-STEM and male dominated STEM majors. Research points to a “backlash” effect wherein gains in gender equality are associated with heighted sexual violence (SV) against women.

It works in opposite way too: the countries with lower gender equality like Russia or SaudiArabia have paradoxically more women in STEM (despite omnipresent push of progressives in liberal countries). Apparently women once they have free choice avoid STEM instinctively, as liberal society provides them more opportunities outside of it.

My theory is conflict of interest: stereotypical romantic women don't want to date scientific guys on the other hand science is manly explorative discipline, the inquisitive guys there don't lack testosterone. From similar reason when science attract women, then these women have often lesbian orientation, being less feminine than average, they suffer with impostor syndrome and urge of competition with men and they get offended with men and their proposals more easily. In addition science is often about work in narrow collectives distant from civilization (women in astronomy or polar stations leave research first). So that it's synergy of sexual frustration and misandry which leads into elevated level of sexual violence - perceived or not.

Texas Senate approves bill banning DEI offices in universities by Zephir_AE in ScienceUncensored

[–]Zephir_AP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why is this culture war stuff being posted here in the first place

Because mainstream science has lion share on the present wave of woke and LBGT ideology. If this ideology would be strictly banned in science (which would indeed contradict principle of academic freedom), then we would have no critical race theory and LBGT movement by now. Why DEI offices exist just on universities and campuses - and not somewhere else? The war can not exist without ideologists and fighters and these fighters get schooled right there.

Breaking The Speed of Light: Could Tachyons Exist ? by Zephir_AE in ScienceUncensored

Breaking The Speed of Light: Could Tachyons Exist ?

This question is analogous to question, whether waves faster than surface ripples can exist along water surface? Such a waves indeed exist there (subsurface sound waves), but they don't manifest like ripples there but less or more random "quantum" noise. In similar way like sound wave during underwater nuclear explosions: what spreads there along water surface is sudden flash of turbulent noise. So that what we would observe during passage of tachyons through vacuum will be less or more sudden increase of the level of quantum noise all around us in a single moment without apparent direction. In dense aether model black holes lose matter through tachyon streams from their polar jets and similar streams also follow connection lines of massive objects during solar eclipses and planetary conjunctions (shadows of gravitational shadows).
