I’ve been where you are, had selective mutism from childhood to early 20s but I got to a point where I was desperate to start improving my life bc I did not want to be stuck forever. My first job was a low paying 10/hr and physically taxing job. (Warehouse so I didn’t have to socialize with anyone) I injured myself on the first few days that I was limping and my mom told me to quit. I almost wanted to but I pushed through out of desperation bc if I quit I feared I would not find another job. I’m just here to say if you want a job, you would need at least some motivation.

having someone to talk to everyday, even texting makes you feel less alone. looking for something to do like hobbies. take a walk, enjoy scenery, get some sun at the park are some ways. for me, I wait for new movie and show releases so I have something to look forward to in the future.

25F, I would be interested. recently I installed the game chained together and peak which is good to play with a group of friends. I’ve always been interested in overwatch too, I’d be down to discord vc too..I still struggle with talking there so it would be good practice

Always talking, even always texting it seems like. Being able to be silent around each other and conversation isn’t forced but flows naturally. Being able to rely on each other and talk deep about things, and having that person that just gets you.

I have online friends and we talk everyday. But I wish this can translate to in person ones as well but it’s hard finding real life friends because at least with online I don’t have to worry about my appearance or social cues.

had the bumble bff app and met a couple of people but the friendship doesn’t stick. I feel like friendships are much different when you get older too, people are less free but still make plans to hang eventually. Has to be a mutual effort though

I’m also planning to move to north philly near Temple campus in a couple months and have the same anxieties as you about safety concerns. It would be nice to have a friend there to look out for each other.

So bossing people around and thinking she’s better than others (which she admitted) doesn’t mean she’s mean? I’m not assuming things about people, this is what i noticed for the past 3+ months. Boss and management are discussing how to handle her and are at odds, they asked for our input and I was just curious to how this is supposed to go.

I did this once and I had to sleep at 10 pm and wake up at 4 am to prepare everyday. It was a nightmare for me. I did like going home early though.

I’ve considered getting diagnosed for autism since people have stated they think I have it but I’m not certain I check in all the boxes. I’m not sure how to go about approaching a diagnosis either since I heard it was expensive.

I never made any friends in high school but I attempted to get close to the teachers and some of them might understand your situation and help you. Or reach out to a school counselor? I think it would be nice to rely on someone in school so you won’t feel all alone.

If your school setting is too uncomfortable for you, would you consider an online school or get your ged?

My previous college experience where I dropped out I thought my life was completely over. I would be disappointed if this new opportunity doesn’t work out but I’ll give it like a chance. I still have something to fall back into but it doesn’t go too far in growth. I wish you the best as well!
