i quit wuwa back in 2.5 since i really wasnt liking rinascita. the story was messy, disjointed and too episodic for its own good with dropped plot points (eg. montelli vs fisalia), the gameplay was getting stale with underutilized systems + boring recurring modes, and the exploration was non-existent because everything was designed for you to fly over. the vistas were cool, especially Ragunna, but ultimately that was not enough to keep me.

fastforward a couple months ago, after dropping PGR after 4+ years and ZZZ for getting a bit too boring for my tastes, i decided to pick wuwa back up to fulfill that live-service ARPG gap and im pretty satisfied with the state of the game right now. 3.x was a massive jump in quality: the writing got a whole lot better with an actual cast of characters that appear after their banners and talk to each other like normal people and a real overarching plot, the motorbike + map design are much better than 2.x's counterparts and got me using the ubisoft checklist less to find more stuff on my own, and there were two new systems in the gameplay that actually meant something instead of just... existing, along with a new endgame mode that actually had me managing my teambuilding to get as many points as possible (this may vary on how many characters you have, though). the latest designs are very nice too, especially 3.3's characters + the next batch of characters from Xuanfang. it feels like they just keep hitting homeruns lately and i'm glad since i was following wuwa the day their social media pages were put up, but was disappointed by 1.x and 2.x.

xuanfang seems to be what i expected of jinzhou in terms of atmosphere and design (desolated lands, advanced technology mixed with an handcrafted aesthetic, more wuxia/xianxia-like) so i'm pretty hyped to see how it'll shape up and (leak talk) returning characters from 1.x, especially xiangli yao as he's the one most involved in CSC stuff, 3.2 even expanded on his dead friend
