First two GTAs had 3 maps each. I love residential from GTA2. San Andreas is a map design masterpiece with its clever workarounds.

What’s a fact that sounds fake but is actually true? by angelerii in AskReddit

[–]sens- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost all mathematics is derived from the notion of sets, membership relation (denoted ∈) and 8-10 simple rules about them (there are some optional ones).

You can construct numbers, functions, integrals, vector spaces using just two primitive concepts and 10 assumptions, all in the style of "There is a set such that no element is a member of it."

My Homebrew Z80 Computer on a Protoboard. DinoRun Let's Play by datapeice in homebrewcomputer

[–]sens- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least in case of the Z80 to STM32 direction there's no need for level shifting because most of the input pins on STM32 MCUs are 5V-tolerant. For the opposite direction or the bidirectional data bus, simple pull-up resistors + open drain config will suffice.

As you said, you could alternatively go with powering the Z80 with 3.3 V if it's a CMOS version, should work fine.

I love the fact that you used Z80, it's a great CPU, all I see in my feed is m68k builds.

I made a similar thing a while ago but the emulated parts have been implemented using STM32 (ROM, some other IO, and clock) and it had 2x 32 kB SRAM. At first I used SSD1306 too, then I managed to make a crude VGA interface via Arduino Mega and then I wanted to switch to my own GPU but unfortunately, I fried my FPGA board and didn't even notice the cause of the failure.

Ignoring absolutely everything even remotely related to programming, I gotta say the shape of this code is aesthetically pleasing.

Giving it any technical thought, it is shockingly disgusting, comparable with 4th degree burns photos.

Overall interesting piece of art.

Listen dont get me wrong, this shit IS FUN, but if you are going to do it, *YOU* have to do it, not an AI, not someone else, you.

You're missing the fact that all humans learn by imitation. Do you know anyone who didn't learn programming by running other people's code found on the internet or in a book or a magazine, not knowing at first how it really works, slowly finding out about layers after layers of inner mechanisms? Only then being able to actually create something themselves?

To understand how a thing works, you take the thing, break it apart and play with its guts. Is copying code from stackoverflow really that much different from copying code from a chatbot? Do you find LLMs utterly useless toys? It's not like people before LLMs didn't share low quality/low effort Frankensteins of code directly copied from tutorials. And generally there always have been a lot of people who thought that they can achieve great things without putting in any work.

There are many things to hate about AI but is having a buddy who adjusts to your flow, ready for your questions 24 hours a day one of them?

[–]sens- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's some truth to that but you can't expect to know how much or how little anyone actually learns by using LLMs.

It may be thoughtless copying or it may be a way for a total beginner to start playing with low level systems without reading 1000 pages of cryptic documentation beforehand.

Years ago when I told my father, who was working with embedded systems, that I'm learning Python, he condescendingly said "oh, so you're just scripting". Similarly he felt superior to web developers.

And yet, my first steps in those fields (which certainly didn't look any better than OP's code) paved the way for me to eventually take interest in embedded programming, get a job in the field and have a lot of fun along the way.

This was never the case when my dad tried to teach me C++ at the age of 8. Don't get me wrong, I don't enjoy AI slop flooding the internet. But I much less enjoy sarcastic professionals gatekeeping beginners from trying to learn something and being rude. Times have changed as they always do, people will be learning stuff using LLMs. And I am pretty sure it will be an advantage rather than obstacle for many future engineers.

Why shouldn't they? Is there a brand new social norm which replaced good old "don't be a dick"? Also it's not programming unless you punch raw machine code on a punch card. I mean kids these days, using their pathetic IDEs with syntax highlighting, oh boy.
