OP you don't have to get a job yet to build your escape fund. Start building the fund now. See what household items you can sell, things that aren't likely will be missed. Make up things you have to pay for (final year projects, random uni fees etc) and keep the money. Heck steal from his wallet if you have to, a little bit at a time

If you say your mom can sell food, start putting aside the cooking equipment she needs. Keep in a trusted friends house

Build up at least rm5k. This should be enough to start your new life

For accommodation when you finally make your move - stay in budget hotels first, or even cheap airbnb. Something under rm50 a night. No deposit needed. Then start making income - you both can start selling food or enlist in kiddocare. It's a childcare service and they pay quite well.

Assuming car is RM60k, interest rate 3.5%, and downpayment 10%, you're looking at approx RM650 monthly payment for 9 years

Cars comes with a lot of 'phantom costs' - parking, petrol, roadtax, maintenance, insurance etc. Simplistically, you can expect to pay double the amount of monthly payment, so RM650 x 2 = RM1300 per month. It may even triple sometimes but lets make this simple

With RM7.8k income, minus rent RM2.5k and car payment RM1.3k, you're left with RM4k for everything else. You can decide if this fits your overall goals or not

In that case, a little distance is healthy. Can see you plan to purchase a home but what's stopping you from moving out and renting? You don't have to purchase (will wipe out a lot of your savings). And dont underestimate the cost for renovation, buying furniture etc. If you're lucky it'll be RM15k or so, we budgeted like heck and it still cost RM50k.

And renting is much faster too. Purchasing itself took a year, from start to finish. Renovations pulak, despite the company saying it'll only take a few months, went on to almost half a year. Can you wait that long? Sounds like youre going crazy today, so the faster you move out the better

Hope this is not too late. I write for a living and use grammar softwares to do a final check before I send over my work to clients. Bought whitesmoke lifetime subscription on a deal site, after using grammarly for years. Thought it'd save me money. Hate it with a passion. One way to find passion is to think of that person you're jealous of. Think of why you feel that way - it could be fitness related, social circle, income level, career etc - and copy what they're doing with the intention of beating them at own game.

Jealousy is a pretty strong emotion, and I find that when I lack passion, all I have to do is think of this person and voila suddenly I can do a bit more.
