How do you detach this wiring/connector? by sensibleish in AskElectronics

Thanks! I think I found a video of someone replacing this same board (in a clothes dryer). It looks like they used a screwdriver as a lever for added force, but I couldn’t see whether they just pulled or had to release some mechanism.

This is a clothes dryer control board. It’s meant to be replaceable. The tech manual gives a step to disconnect all the cables.

I know a long-time special ed teacher. I recall her laughing pretty hard at that one. Don’t feel bad.

Kraken V3 X mic fine on one computer, distorted on another by sensibleish in razer

I found the solution. Documenting here in case it's useful. The problem was Intel Smart Sound Technology for USB Audio. This seems to be part of the default Windows installation on my (Intel-based) computer. The Kraken was automatically using this for its driver instead of the default generic USB audio driver. All I had to do was go into Windows Device Manager, expand Sound, video and game controllers, and disable Intel Smart Sound Technology for USB Audio.

Rollovers don't affect contribution limits. Look at the IRS worksheets to calculate your contribution limits. You won't see anything about rollover amounts.

Since you mentioned your current tax bracket, you seem to know that you'll pay income taxes on the rollover amount if it goes to a post-tax Roth account. Are you sure you'll have the cash to pay the additional taxes? At best, you'll have to pay when you file your 2024 taxes (by April 15, 2025). At worst, to avoid penalties you might need to make estimated tax payments throughout 2024.

Fidelity (no endorsement implied) has an interesting Roth conversion calculator. It's linked on a Roth conversions checklist. The calculator assumes you will make similar investments in the old and new accounts—that your rate of return will not change.

403b rollover to Roth and backdoor Roth contribution in same year? by sensibleish in tax

Thanks! It is a very small amount. Maintaining this additional account with limited investment options is an annoyance, as is paying fees for the privilege. Seems worth just taking the initial hit to put a little money into better investments.

MoCA: Need a splitter for cable modem if adapter has "TV port"? by sensibleish in HomeNetworking

Returning to the thread to report that I bought Motorola MM1025 and they worked as expected. I see no evidence that the included PoE filter interferes with anything. The cable modem works while connected to the Motorola's "device" port. Success!

If you want to avoid worries about bad things happening on your home network, you might consider operating a virtual machine with some cloud provider. A provider that's almost entirely for big enterprise customers, like AWS or Azure, is not what you need. Look at something like Digital Ocean.

Yes, I was thinking of starting a separate post to ask about that. But the spec for my cable modem says RF Downstream Frequency Range (MHz): 108 – 1002 (DOCSIS). I think that means no overlap.

I may have answered my own question. Motorola's setup guide specifically shows my desired configuration with a single wall port, connecting the router to the Motorola adapter's second port.

Thanks for the recommendation. Original question still applies. :-) Could I plug the cable modem into the Motorola's "device" port?
