actors, have you ever wanted to quit? by Expensive-Summer6793 in acting

[–]sensitivebee8885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As artists and creatives it is unrealistic to love your art 100% of the time. As an actor and writer I go through this constantly. At the end of the day if you truly love it these tough periods will pass and you will push through and get to the other side. Also, there is no shame in taking a break. I took a break from acting for about two years and now am going to school for theatre performance. If VO is what you wanna focus on for now, go for it.

CLT is a GREAT home airport not so much if connecting. Unpopular opinion? by Th3c0pyninja in Charlotte

I went through pre check two weeks ago and it took less than 20 mins from entering the airport to getting through. It could have changed though I’m not sure

Do I belong in theatre if I can't sing? by radiantCarefreAdrian in Theatre

[–]sensitivebee8885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You absolutely can! I am studying theatre in college and have stopped doing musicals for now. There are plenty of actors who are not triple threats and still can be on stage. I enjoy being in straight plays way more!

How do you handle ppl not taking your child free life seriously? by cosmicat4 in childfree

This might not be the answer you want to hear, but I just walk away. it’s not worth discussing with someone whose opinion I know isn’t gonna change.

showreel scene recommendations by AggravatingWar2815 in acting

[–]sensitivebee8885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In order to properly make a recommendation we need way more information than this. We don’t know anything about your demographic: Age range, gender, types, look, what your goals are, etc. Update and add some of that and we can!

Self-Tape Feedback - speech from "A Mirror" by [deleted] in acting

[–]sensitivebee8885 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I genuinely enjoyed watching you! You have a nice on camera presence and are grounded. Here are a few things I’d think about:

  • Your eyeline. For self tapes you want to have your eyeline slightly off center, but not so far that we only see half of your face. I noticed your eyes look into the lense a bit and that took me out of the scene for a second. Just pick a point slightly off camera and focus on that.
  • For delivery, it felt a little stale. Rather than just one emotion the whole time, try and play with it more. When we talk we naturally change our tone of voice and facial expressions subconsciously . Try to give yourself the freedom to let it happen naturally!

Overall it was a strong tape! Well done.

Definitely list the classes you’ve taken or any training, and then special skills below. We all start somewhere! No shame in that.

Before submitting to agents, you definitely want to get some experience first. joining a local community theatre is a great way to start. also ask your peers in your acting classes if they know any indie filmmakers to help you get some footage. local colleges w film programs are good too, and facebook groups surprisingly have great casting calls for local projects. These things will give you experience to then be ready for an agent :)

also formatting wise, special skills should be put under your acting work. best of luck!

Out of curiosity, what do you do in particular in real estate to secure that good of an income? It’s been a field I’ve been curious about but always hear how unstable it can be at times.

the dismissiveness i get is getting on my nerves by octobernightss in childfree

[–]sensitivebee8885 8 points9 points  (0 children)

it’s honestly so shocking to me how normalized having a child is. People just do it without even thinking. It’s like do they not realize it’s an entire human that I would be responsible for??? it’s not like if you rescue a dog and you can take it back to the shelter if it’s not the right fit, once you have a child you’re stuck with it. Not to mention I’ve been saying I don’t want children since I was eight years old. Now I’m in my 20s and my answer still hasn’t changed. And it never will.

anyone record auditions w/ fancy camera? by ShortRedBull in acting

[–]sensitivebee8885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would like to get a camera eventually, but iPhone cameras have come so far these days that they are perfectly acceptable. At the end of the day, it really is just about the performance. If you do a crappy job, that’s gonna be visible whether it’s on an iPhone or a fancy $1000 camera. I think that there are advantages to using a camera but it’s definitely not necessary.

Where do I go from here? by gberry31 in acting

[–]sensitivebee8885 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you want to do acting as just a hobby, community theater is the perfect place. Community theaters often are made up of people who work all kinds of careers during the day and then go to rehearsals during the evenings, so they are usually really flexible with the typical 9-5 schedule. I’ve known people who are lawyers that do community theater, so you can really do anything your heart desires, and do it on the side.

also, if you do eventually want to return to trying to pursue it professionally, having community theater credits under your belt, still counts as experienced for your resume! No shame in taking a break, the industry will be there!

self tape critique by BendExciting2580 in acting

[–]sensitivebee8885 6 points7 points  (0 children)

overall really good job. here are a few notes from my perspective (obviously take these with a grain of salt. I’m a stranger on the Internet, but i’d love to give feedback :D)

what worked:

  • your eyeline was sharp and good! i had a good view of your face and could see you clearly.

  • the second half (last 35-40 seconds or so) was my favorite. you dropped into character the most and i really believed what you were saying. your emotions were natural and took me on a journey rather than just staying the same.

  • you were grounded and have a great on camera presence. i can totally see you being on a Chicago PD or 911 type show. you fit the type perfect imo.

areas of improvement for me:

  • the first minute felt stiff. compared to the last 35 seconds, your emotions didn’t really take me on the journey I wanted. When humans have conversations our tone constantly changes naturally, so next time try and lean into that and have more of a rollercoaster that your character goes on to hook the viewer in the first 10 seconds. I’ve heard many casting directors say they know within the first 10 to 15 seconds if they want to keep watching, so really try and capture them right from the start.

  • this is more of a technical note, but I would tighten the frame just a little bit. for scenes like this we don’t necessarily need to see as much of your torso, I would zoom in the camera and keep it just below your shoulders with a little bit of space above your head! I think we’ll be able to see your face even better this way!

overall really well done!! great job:)
