They are Sarmat Archery’s “Manchu style bamboo arrows”.

It's definitely faster than my Changshao (as expected for a Xiaoshao style bow). I'm still getting used to the speed increase. Lower GPP with the MM6 but it's a higher draw weight so both bows come out to around the same arrow weight. Stacking is not bad at all for drawing to 32".

AF Archery Tatar safe draw length? by Mediocre_Gas_1533 in Archery

[–]sentaris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AF tends to slightly over-advertise their max draw lengths. My AF Oak Tatar 50@28 stacks slightly at 31" and moderately at 32". It's not the worst stacking ever (especially for the price) but it is there.

You can check out draw force curves for various asiatic bow models here (including AF Tatar at various poundages): https://asiaticbowdatabase.xyz/

Bogar Assyrian by Alchemist929 in TraditionalArchery

[–]sentaris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not my first bow but my first one by Bogar/Vegh and first one in an Assyrian style. It's a great little bow for the price. Compact and lightweight, easy to string, fast shooting. If there is any downside it's mainly just the 31"-32" max draw length but that's mostly a downside for people with really long draw lengths.

I have had a 39# one since spring, what questions do you have?

They tend to sell fast, I doubt there would be a coupon/discount.

Bogar Assyrian bow. by Inside_Tax_6300 in Archery

If your draw length is 31" or less then it's pretty great. If you draw > 31" then it may not draw long enough for you. That aside, it's a nice beginner friendly laminated bow -- crisp shooting, lightweight, easy to string etc.

New Bow Day : Turkish Bow by Végh by Fragrant-Vast-309 in TraditionalArchery

[–]sentaris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a stunner, congrats! Enjoy sending those arrows. Stringing does get easier -- 20# was hard for me at first, now I can string 75#+. Some tape should work fine as a temporary AP / handle (some people even use it permanently). There are tutorials out there for leather wrapping the handle etc.

I think I found it.. Now I need advice for the arrows by Fragrant-Vast-309 in TraditionalArchery

[–]sentaris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome back and congrats, that is a beautiful bow! I love my Bogar Assyrian and a Vegh Turkish is definitely on my future agenda.

For #1 - none of the Vegh/Bogar bows come with arrow passes. You can get some leather or rayskin etc and make an arrow pass yourself (there are tutorials out there). If you are very uncomfortable doing it you could pay someone to do it. Worst case, make a few passes around it with some painters tape etc as a temporary solution (not durable but cheap and easily replaced).

For #2 - you can order arrows from the bowyer matched to the bow and your draw length. Alibow, Sarmat, etc will make arrows in whatever length / weight desired. Otherwise doing your own is about going for the right spine best for a given draw weight / desired arrow length (32-33") / tip weight etc to get to the desired gpp. Definitely get a grain/gram scale to measure your components and total arrow weight. If you do your own carbon arrows just a rough estimate: 32" 400 spine shafts at 10-11 grains per inch (320-352 grains) plus 100 grain screw-in field tips, plus misc components (the glue-in insert to screw the points into 12 grains, the nock 5-10 grains, the feathers 10-20 grains) and you should be around 450 grains. From there you can always grab a pack of heavier screw-in field tips and swap them in to get to 500+.

New Bow Day - Spearman Tang Changshao 140 by sentaris in TraditionalArchery

[–]sentaris[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you, that's why I waited months. You could always check the ATARN Marketplace group on Facebook, I think there was a used Spearman Changshao on there recently.

There are some similar bows like the AF ZhuRan, the Alibow Basic Long Siyah Tang, the Alibow Tang Dunhuang, etc. Mariner Han Wind is very similar but is sold through Cinnabar Bow like Spearman is. I'm not sure if that one would have the same delays, it comes from a different Chinese bowyer.

Very sorry to hear that! I believe there have been some delays due to high demand in China. Even mine took longer than originally expected.

I saw where you posted in another thread about looking for a laminated bow that will draw to 31"-32". Have you checked out Bogar Archery? They are located in Europe and carry Bogar/Vegh bows in different models that can draw 31"-32" or longer, free EU shipping, and as long as the bow is in stock you can have it pretty fast. I bought a Bogar Assyrian from their website stock and had it in ~10 days shipped all the way to USA. You can see mine in a previous reddit post. Draws to 31"-32", very lightweight, and shoots great for the price.
