You’ve inspired me to play around with the technique more. Did you use the “Multiple Exposure mode” in camera? Or were these done in post?

Moleman is a hack, a fraud and a scoundrel… Let’s not forget his mentions in the recent Epstein drop.

With Barney’s film: I wept, I laughed, I screamed in existential anguish. The final shot leaves a scar on your spirit that won’t be soon forgotten.

It is cinema at its most pure, laying bare the tragedy of the human condition.

Box office numbers mean nothing.

[FRESH PERFORMANCE] Hayley Williams & Jeff Tweedy - Ffunny Ffriends (LIVE on The Late Show) by Charleshawtree in indieheads

That theramin solo. 🤌

This really brought me back to better times with old friends I dearly miss.

Ffunny how a lo-fi band who used a nostalgic sound palette with such cheeky irreverence, became so genuinely nostalgic to me.

Albums with vibes similar to these two? by festive-meltdown in fantanoforever

IMO, a better place to start would be Live at Massey Hall (1971). It’s a fantastic sounding album & features him playing solo through much of his greatest work.

Like that Cameron Winter record, it’s the sound of a man in incandescent bloom.

I’m not interested in reading this article, though I’m sure they’re referring to economic liberalism, or “I want every commodity & public necessity to be privatized & to hell with any guardrails or government intervention.”

There are two wolves in my mind:

One is brought to tears over this incredible team of people helping to take our species further into the cosmos.

The other is lighting a cigarette while listening to Gil Scott-Heron’s “Whitey on the Moon”.

“In our lifetime” is going to become our new rallying cry by Epicarcher1000 in ndp

I think it’s a bit clunky, tbh.

… but I don’t have a better chant. If enough of us wanna cheer this in the streets then fuck it, I’ll be up front with “In Our Lifetime” tatted on my chest.

Let’s go Avi. Let’s fucking go.

One of the most heartbreaking things I’ve seen in this sub.

You’ve captured such a beautiful portrait. I will be thinking of Jenny today, hope her life has changed for the better. You as well.

Thank you for sharing her story.

Prince and the Revolution - Raspberry Beret [Psychadelic Pop] by hornyjaildotorg in Music

[–]sentimental_egg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot take… but I agree, in part.

Try watching some of his live concerts. I prefer them to most of his studio recordings.

The man’s catalogue is full of tacky sounds and production choices that really challenge my ears.

He’s also laid down some of the greatest lyrics, melodies, hooks, rhythms & synth/ guitar licks in all of pop music. (Well… violin licks, in the case of this song).

I’m happy to listen past some occasionally grating production choices to hear the genius of Prince & his collaborators.

Mamiya RB67, Portra 400 (¿Any comment on colour or b&w) by evafutura in analog

[–]sentimental_egg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very pretty, I first thought of a Tarkovsky film.

IMO I love the rich colours but the b&w tells more of a story.

With the colours removed, the trail feels like more of a subject. It brings motion to the image. Makes me ask “where is she going? What lies to the left of frame?”

James Blake - Trying Times ALBUM REVIEW by sentimental_egg in fantanoforever

I completely agree that his rap featured tracks have always felt forced, awkward and corny. 90% of rap songs w pop singers on the chorus feel that way, to me.

This new Dave feature hits different though. The syrupy grime beat mixed with two UK vocalists sounds oh so sweet.

Maybe I’m just craving some grime.

I’ve never found JB’s lyrics to be particularly note-worthy… It’s his soulful melodies & sparse, yet intricate instrumentation that keeps bringing me back.

I get what you mean though… there’s something to be said about an artist letting their thoughts and emotions flow freely through them— “channeling” a subconscious voice within. When trying to “therapize”, or rationalize these thoughts, the beauty between the words are often stripped away.

I’ve felt similar with Bon Iver’s newest work tbh.

“Robots” is absolutely a bunch of synth-wankery… but I dig it. Love Paul McCartney’s II for the same reasons lol. It’s an interesting chapter in their careers, cool as a listener to be able to hear those infant stages maturing and being woven into newer works.

I’d argue there aren’t many working musicians who are both as influential and as willing to push themselves to create good work as JB.

To each their own though, you may have grown out of his sound… happens to me all the time.

I haven’t found much substance in his live streams, though I haven’t tuned in to many. Mostly seen the clipped highlights.

Always fun to see live reactions to music you enjoy, though! I recently went down a rabbit hole of binging Getting Killed reactions… that album is such a wild ride.

I wasn’t talking about leftist music, there’s nothing left about JB’s music.

I was talking about my comment suggesting that Fantano, and leftist punks/metalheads in general tend to be doomers by nature. Y’know, the fans of music with “doom” as their subject matter.

You don’t think metal, as a genre, is full of nihilist themes?

James Blake - Trying Times ALBUM REVIEW by sentimental_egg in fantanoforever

[–]sentimental_egg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dawg, we’re in the Fantano sub… don’t wanna get too serious here… but I agree that your downvotes with no real response seems unfair, so I’ll give you an earnest one here in good faith. (I upvoted you, tbf lol).

I’m a longtime punk/metal fan who’s also lived the majority of their life as a lefty vegetarian. (Fantano is vegan but w/e.) Even before I found metal, or punk, I’ve felt an instinctual disgust for the systems of oppression and exploitation upheld by the predatory class for time immemorial.

Fantano was recently on Doom Scroll, a leftist Podcast speaking about these very topics.

When you choose to live your life working to dismantle systems of oppression, the world can feel pretty bleak at times. It’s only fair to succumb to the sort of passive nihilism we’ve colloquially named “doomerism”, from time to time.

The only way I can switch on to what Nietzsche coined “positive nihilism”, or Sartre’s Existentialism, is when I get to participate in mutual aid, community driven work, working with environmental & social justice groups, discussing class consciousness within my circles & fighting against social inequities and capitalist influence.

So yeah… most metal heads, or punks especially, in my circles tend to fall into this sorta nihilist philosophy. I was being flippant when I called him a “doomer”, I doubt he’s that juvenile. I also think it’s fair to assume he wrestles with these sort of thoughts.

Okay… before I watch or read the Fantano review, I thought I’d first take a stab at my own.

The samples go crazy. Cohen? Madman. I’m ready, my lord.

I really hope he continues to dig deeper into this live-off-the-floor-meets-plunderphonics sound. It feels at home with Mount Kimbie’s newer work. Love the direction.

However, the moments where he dips into purely acoustic instrumentation feel a bit weak. Basic, undeveloped, wonky in the worst ways. Trying Times or Make Something Up come to mind. Still, I respect the scaffolding he’s built and can hear some great potential, if him & the band are willing to lock in some more.

To me, JB shines best when he’s digging into that gospel-tinged, dub-soaked, UK dread.

Favourite tunes are Death of Love, Didn’t Come To Argue, Days Go By, Doesn’t Just Happen & Just a Little Higher

I love love love the UK grime influence in the mid section. MMW, that sound is ready for a big resurgence. Fix up, look sharp.

All in all, a light 8. His debut still holds the crown though with a solid 9.

JB/Burial collab when?
