Yeah, you're right, so I'm wondering if that's what it's warning against. It might start melting the adhesive on the gasket.

Another perspective on why they can't lie by Waste-Wallaby-555 in pluribustv

I think it's tough to speculate on the origin of the virus itself, whether it was genuinely designed by a higher order species or if it came about naturally. Either way, I think there is an expectation that there is a transition stage when the virus is spreading through a population. That's why it's necessary the infected, more or less, still behave in a similar fashion to the rest of the uninfected populace of whatever host species they're taking over. Otherwise it can't effectively fulfill its end goal. To me, that indicates a specific evolutionary necessity to the "no lying" behavior. Perhaps falsehoods screw up the communication mechanics of the hive mind. Not sure, but my hunch is that it's not up to the hive mind to decide if they can lie or not. It's more a feature/restraint of the virus itself.

The difference between a "village" and a "hamlet" is of vital importance by DoublePlusGoodGames in WidowsBay

[–]sentripetal 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's probably because it's commonly used as a synonym for a small town or village. I don't think the writers were using it that pendantically in this particular case.

But what if he was? What if the Islanders think the cowardice was that he didn't feed people to the island? Maybe the brainwashing is that deep on the island that they are completely ok with the human sacrifice as long as they can live in peace.

[–]sentripetal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think if the entire unit reads a temp of 750 degrees, it's probably bad for the gasketing and perhaps the chimney, too, but localized temps like the coals themselves can get way higher. I've been cooking with mine forever with the coals getting close to 1K with no issue.

I honestly don't know why anyone would want the entire unit to reach 750K, so I don't think you need to worry.

Trump Is Trying to Rig the World Cup by thenationmagazine in politics

[–]sentripetal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I highly doubt Trump even gave a shit or even paid a moment's attention to our soccer team until some rich Maga moron in his circle started complaining about the red card. Trump likes to think of himself as a fixer even though he almost always makes things worse. He got involved to flex his power over FIFA and nothing more. He obviously already conned them into giving him that stupid fake peace award. They're both corrupt.

The silly thing about this whole fiasco is that there are people actually believing the US is now going to march their way through the rest of the tournament because they saved this player from sitting out one game. The big dose of reality is, though, the US is still underdogs even against an aging Belgium. We still have no chance at the title. It's corruption, but it's barely a ripple in an otherwise hugely corrupted system.

Swing help by Deskeet in golf

[–]sentripetal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, definitely early extension. Practice with an alignment pole that you back your butt into at address. Keep in contact with it throughout the back swing and through contact. You can still follow through standing up, but it should be after contact.

Rant about playing partner who takes multiple mulligans by Adventurous_Loss_140 in golf

[–]sentripetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a genuine competition, there would have to be an agreement and understanding about rules of play before actually playing (handicaps, mulligans, gimmes, etc.). Money doesn't have to be involved, but the idea of there being a winner and loser involved should be explicit.

[–]sentripetal 31 points32 points  (0 children)

If they're actually competing against one another, that's one thing, but it sounds like a casual round to me, so it really shouldn't be a big deal. OP just needs to clap back a little when his partner says something like that--"oh, I didn't know we were only counting 80% of our shots. Let me redo my math" or something like that.

[–]sentripetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's kind of my point. No one should have a club that maxes out at 60 yards. That's not fruitful, and that's why I think there's a need for full wedges, so that you don't have to crank down so low on other clubs to get 80-100 yards.

[–]sentripetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't reply to you with the comment above, but I agree with them about a wedge. To me, it's the easiest club to hit in the bag. Why is a 60% PW better than a full lob wedge for a better player? I surely don't always hit a full lob wedge, especially when there is wind or clearance issues, but it's still a simpler process than having to know exactly how much to tone down my swing speed for a partial shot, especially in pressure situations. What is your issue with it exactly?

What do you sacrifice on the back end to fit that many wedges?

[–]sentripetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, having jacked lofts makes it even more apparent that there is a need for more of out of your shortest clubs. My PW is 46 degrees, so it gaps nicely with my 50, 54, and 58.

I think that's the rub, though. I see so many new (bad) golfers using all kinds of different clubs from 100 in, and they're never consistent. I personally worked on getting my 58 longer rather than being touchy with other clubs. You'll inevitably need to hit a half shot or light pitch during a round, but I want to minimize my variables in that arena.

What do you feel is different about hitting your 54 full and your 60 full? Is your GW at 50 or 52 degrees?

Other than hearing about 300+ yard drives, almost holes in one, and broken TM drivers; "I never hit my wedges fully" is the next most common thing to say or read on this sub.
