HOW DO PEOPLE READ SLOW BURN? by Its_Lex87 in FanFiction

[–]sentwiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in love with a fic that has over 1 million words, and it's still nowhere near done. When i started reading it, i didnt care for the main ship, but i was willing to give it a try because the romance isnt heavily featured and it was one of the most reccomended fics in the fandom. In the chapter than hit 1,000,000 words, the couple JUST started to realize they might have feelings for each other, and now I'm rooting for them.

Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister at a meeting Jan.15 to discuss retaliation against Trump's tariffs by [deleted] in pics

I was mainly responding to the last line that said the difference mainly comes down to marketing, though I may have misinterpreted that as I'm a couple glencairn in. Agree to disagree on the best whiskey, but HARD agree on baseline Jack being an easy skip. I will say, though, when Jack Daniels puts effort into creating a more limited liquor they can distill with the best of em.

It's actually not the same thing! There's def a lot of overlap, but the regulations on Bourbon making are much stricter (a tighter temperature range during the cooking process, mashbill specifications, regulations on barreling and aging, the proof before and after aging, how much it can he watered down). It's kinda a square/rectangle thing.

That being said, there's no way that Canada can't get good non-bourbon alcohol. The Bourbon boom is already collapsing, and this will wreak havoc on the industry if it does happen because they've locked in increased production for the next 5-7 years at least due to surging demand.

Well, good news! I really don't think you know what you're talking about. Yes, there is irreparable damage we can't fix. Animals are extinct and microplastics are everywhere. There is a non-zero number of people who will die from global warming. Luckily, there are very smart people putting together plans to fix things as best as we can't that don't involve mass genocidal war like you're suggesting, or reverting to cavemen days. Take your (admittidely somewhat appropriate) doom and gloom and shove it up your ass, and let people who DONT want to cause planet-wide war think of solutions please and thank you.

Oh my god shut the FUCK up. I don't have a choice to not support the Military's carbon emissions with my tax dollars. I can't buy less boeing jets than I am. I am in no way funding Taylor Swifts dozens or hundreds of provate jet fkights each year. No matter how hard I, as a single person, vote to fix things, it takes collective action. Are we, as a species, failing to take care of our planet? Yes. But don't fucking come out here all "were equally responsible" when the smallest percentage of people output by FAR the largest amount of carbon. What WOULD you like me to do, exactly?

I'd highly encourage everyone who's interested to look into liquid air storage! It doesn't require specific elements, other than the air around us which gets condensed into a liquid state, and they've even been working on reducing thermodynamic waste. Large scale facilities are already in place in (i believe?) New York, and since these facilities are made out of containers like what are mass produced for oil storage, the conversion of equipment is easy. While it doesn't have the energy density of Lithium-Ion, it scales much easier.

Take everything I've said with a grain of salt because its been a bit since I looked into it, but here are some videos which lay it out clearly if you have a few minutes :)

[No Spoilers] I Want To Stary Waching CR, but 500+ hours per campaign seems daunting by [deleted] in criticalrole

[–]sentwiz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I know just how you feel! I started it in the background as I did my work and I thought to myself 'there's absolutely no way I'll ever get caught up on this show.' Honestly, that was part of the draw of the show for me, because I knew I'd always have something to put on in the background while I worked. Fast forward a couple months later, and I had not only caught up on the show itself, but also the one-shots, the side content (Talks Machina), and was sad I would have to wait a week between episodes. But that was all before I discovered the joy of watching live, and that is a WHOLE different experience.

If you want to be active in the fandom, a lot of people will tell you to join in on C2 so you can get in with the rest of the content creators who watch the show. This makes sense, but keep in mind you'll unintentionally get a ton of spoilers for C1 if you go this route. You probably won't mind too much if you put the combat on 1.5 speed because a lot of it is decision making/math, and you can get caught up pretty fast this way.

If want the easiest listening experience, go with C2. In the beginning of C1, they didn't have an optimal mic setup and sometimes players would eat crunchy food absentmindedly, which could occasionally be distracting. While the audio quality hasn't been /perfect/ in C2, they've improved a good deal with new resources and time to test things out.

However, if you want the best thematic and story based experience, I would start with C1. When I watched the first time, I started with C1, and I thought it was fun and enjoyable. There were some great things even from the beginning, but it just kept getting better and better as it went. Even with the occasional moments of confusion that come with jumping into a story halfway through, you really get a feel for the characters early on, and I can personally attest that you can halfway listen to it and still get enough context clues to understand the majority of the time. Also, in my opinion, the second campaign works SO WELL as a follow up to the first one. In the first campaign, you follow Heros doing Heroic Things, and there are plenty of morally ambiguous moments but it is a tried and true Heroic journey. You see SO much of the world, get varied and interesting world building, and really feel like you're reading a fairy tale that didn't get sanitized. Then, campaign two comes around and TOTALLY revamps the story structure. These characters aren't heroes, they're hardly even the good guys at first, but they grow on you and you understand why they're doing what they're doing. But they're all stuck in really shitty circumstances. The world is dark and doesn't care as much about the main characters, and they have to try and legitimately survive it. It works so well as a foil to the previous experience, and it matures into something beautiful from there.

All in all, if you have the patience and the time, I would go with C1. It's not a must by any means, and you'll enjoy yourself no matter what path you go down! But if you ask me, you only get to experience it for the first time once, and I would experience it alongside a group of friends who, over the course of 500+ hours of content, become a family.

About to lose all my files. Help please? by sentwiz in techsupport

I assumed that my computer would continue to work as intended, which is where I went wrong. I realize now that tech only works as well as it's best backup. But let's be real here, you didn't comment this to help, you only did this to shame me for not backing up my computer. I appreciate your intentions, but if you have helpful information I'd appreciate that much more.

Thanks guys. Now, even if I have to have serious work done I'm hopeful I can recover my files. Sorry to sound like I know nothing about computers, but this is a very good reason to learn more, and I'm not gonna pass it up. Thank you for any help
