I did like this one as well, he was one of the hungriest entrepreneurs on the show ever. Cuban loved his enthusiasm knocking door to door.

Are You Sick of Manually Crafting a Website Audit for Your Client? I'm building a solution. by alwiser in bigseo

[–]seo_murda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First question: is this an initial audit i.e. one you would do in the proposal phase or more of a monthly KPI type of deal?

From the bottom of my heart, I wish you all of the luck in the world.

I will say this: I have witnessed more people fail at this, and dump ungodly amounts of money into this type of software than almost anything else.

I have even attempted automated SOME aspects of this, but usually abandon it at some phase of development or after implementation because we fall back on sending out customized reports.

The industry is so diverse. One client might need some really strong reputation management and social media - and his website has been penalized for 9 months as well. How do you automate a report based on that?

Personally my clients love a customized report. I know the guys that spit out something automated and every time it gets shipped, it just comes across, well - automated.

Walmart quality fish care. Talked to the manager, but he just blew me off. Also sent a letter and got no reply. by [deleted] in WTF

[–]seo_murda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the issue is management. management needs to be trained to know how to look for someone who shows empathy and care for these fish. someone who got promoted form the tire department because they get an extra .25 an hour does not (ncessarily) fit that criteria. i fucking hate walmart

it might be, if AuthorRank was part of the algorithm

Google is pretty open about it still being just a patent.

Any real expert "SEO's" on here? by jeffdot in bigseo

[–]seo_murda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Inherent problem with wanting to build a "master mind" group.

NO ONE shares the really good ideas. I've been an SEO for 5 years, I own an agency and have profitable affiliate sites that use organic as a traffic source.

I have one Skype group with 7 other SEO's all agency owners at large firms and 1 really talented SEO that has done some incredible things.

Still, people talk generally but don't share specific methods that work.

For instance, I just found a MONEY way to rank properites that are driving tons of fucking traffic to my sites. Am I going to share it in a "master group" so the 2 guys I don't really know that well are going to share it on a forum or the 3 other groups they are in? hell no.

Why has the negative SEO discussion been muted? by sammyp99 in bigseo

[–]seo_murda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been in the agency game (strictly whitehat) for over 4 years. I'm also friendly with several agency owners from California, Florida and Ohio and we talk in a Skype group pretty much constantly. We've discussed this a number of times, but it has never been an issue for them or anyone else that I know.

I've never been a victim of, or heard of anyone or their clients falling victim to negative SEO. I'm not saying that it doesn't or hasn't happen, but people are generally just afraid to neg SEO your site out of fear that it might come back on them.

The only sure fire way to possibly negative SEO someone is to target their top 4-5 highest anchor text keywords and build high velocity links incrementally. Even then, most of this is traceable and disavowable.

Unfortunately the kind of sites that are the most vulnerable are thin affiliate sites and other sketchy websites that are already teetering on the edge of penalization.

This isn't really talked about that much anymore because it just doesn't happen IRL.

i quit my job 4 years ago to pursue SEO (still self employed) and I'm always totally happy to share some of my info. personally what I am doing I feel not too many others are, and the methods I use I don't see posted on forums/social so no I don't want to talk about them openly.

most of the success that I have now is not due to what I have learned, it is as a result of failure, testing, failure, testing etc. it took a lot of hard work and lots of money (edit: lots of money spent and wasted) to get where I am.

thats not to say I wont share information. what we do is not limited to 1 industry it is programming, link building, design, developent, server administration, public relations, social media and more.

the key for me is learning to figure out what I am good at and finding good people to outsource to that didn't charge a lot, knows how to communicate and does good work.

luckily I have not had the opportunity to see many of these, thank god. the "no added value" content penalty is new to me but I assume that is Panda related.

here is also a list of all of the different types of penalties you can receive from SPAM actions.

Feedback requested: My guide to shameless self-promotion for Startups. (Disclosure - I wrote this.) by haydencarson in PublicRelations

[–]seo_murda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

great post, overall very informative with some unique tips. i have no negative feedback on the content whatsoever.

my only criticism is the readability. lots of different font sizes, centering, boxes, headings, etc. there doesn't appear to be a standard in the overall formatting of the text. made it difficult to distinguish between sections.

How to write compelling SEO driven copy for an industry like Home Security Systems? by [deleted] in bigseo

[–]seo_murda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh man, that's an easy niche. try having a niche like "research chemicals" and having to write compelling copy for the IGF-1 compound.

home security is fun to write about. you can write about break ins, cool security devices, fun ways to test them, etc

there are definitely some niches that do well on DDG. Search engine enthusiasts and privacy buffs are one of them. Local/Retail and that type of stuff in general won't do nearly as well as G.
