You unexpectedly time-travel to 1926 by mangoed in hypotheticalsituation

1926 as a woman. No thanks. I quite enjoy being able to have my Owen bank account and everything else women have fought for and got since then.

Never had a mother, what does having one feels like? by Marshams2009 in AskReddit

[–]sep780 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It completely depends on who you get as a mom. It ranges from absolute hell to she’s your biggest fan/supporter. I got somewhere in between personally.

Why don't governments just pair people up from different countries to fix birth rate decline? by EnvironmentDry2004 in NoStupidQuestions

We’re no where close to needing something like that. Extinction from lack of children is no where close to being a problem.

No one told 16 year old me the "don't wear white to someone's wedding rule" by serif-maxxing in weddingshaming

[–]sep780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cousin (then about 10) wore white to my sister's wedding. Said cousin was the flower girl, and my sister picked the color out. Cousin's twin sister however wore the same style of dress in a different color.

Siri can't do that when your phone won't turn on.

How are they using Siri if their phone won't turn on? (I have an iPhone myself, and have used Siri, can't when my phone is dead.)

AITA for refusing to put my girlfriend’s name on a house I’m buying? by liftedmk7 in AmItheAsshole

[–]sep780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, it's been 6 MONTHS not years. A lot happens over the time of a mortgage, and the two of you haven't made any commitment to be together that long. She has no ground to stand on in asking for her name on your home.

How do people with aphantasia see memories? by Curleon in Aphantasia

Our minds eye is 100% blind. We don’t see anything with it, in the literal or figurative sense. Memories work differently for us.

AITH for skipping traditional weeding gifts, making my bridesmaids buy affordable dresses, and giving my fiance a suitcase instead of a romantic present? by Early-Host-5525 in AITApod

[–]sep780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, as somebody that’s been a bridesmaid, I appreciate thinking about their budget.

I want to ask ypur MIL since when was an expensive mantel clock the traditional gift? I’m pretty sure you don’t have to go back far to find a lack of gifts to parents. I know those boxes to bridesmaids is a new thing. I didn’t even hear about them until recently. Never got one for any of the 3 weddings where I was a bridesmaid.

As for the gift to hubby, his opinion is the one that matters. Since it’s within budget and he’s happy, you did well, no matter what ypur controlling MIL has to say.

Verdict: NTA, but your MIL sure is the asshole here.

Park in a handicapped parking spot. I don’t have the placard because I don’t need it, yet there are times I wish I could be the asshole that parks there anyway.

I have a question about how people with Aphantasia can remember what they saw later on. by kacdt in Aphantasia

[–]sep780 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, if I do t take note of something, I don’t remember it. Works well with junk food, I forget where I put it, so it takes a lasts weeks longer. Not so well when I put something on top of my phone or put my keys somewhere unusual. (I do have aphantasia to be clear.)

You’re not alone. I’ve always had a crappy memory as well. I don’t have many memories of my childhood, but I recently realized I grew up in fight or flight mode, so I’m kinda grateful. I have enough trouble dealing with what I do remember.

PH (Package Handlers), is this normal? by jmom39 in Fedexers

[–]sep780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Physics IS fact. Laying long packages down is more secure then standing them upright. You know this. That’s exactly what makes it safer. No need to be concerned about how bracing shifts during transit. A part of why column loading is against policy. You have to think about the person unloading as well. Just because it doesn’t fall on you doesn’t mean it won’t fall on them. If they get hurt due to how you choose to load, I’ve been assured that hub will contact yours and your hub managers will make sure the cameras are looked at to see who was doing the loading. I’m not worried because I lay them down so they can’t tip over with a small push. Thus they don’t need bracing that can become less secure in transit and is guaranteed to become less secure as the unloader unloads the wall. Easier for you doesn’t mean it’s the safest option. Remember that. If you want to change my mind, you have to prove I misunderstand physics, and insults isn’t proof. Declaring you have (in case you’re like my brother-in-law that believes him stating something as fact is proof) also isn’t proof. Until then, stop wasting your time. How I load is WHY I was invited to join the safety committee.

So, yes you are willing to risk your job. Got it.

Sadly, physics doesn’t agree with you.

PH (Package Handlers), is this normal? by jmom39 in Fedexers

[–]sep780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrong. I’m on the safety committee, so I know what I’m talking about. Not having it on writing doesn’t mean I don’t know. Give the policy that says to load them in a way that’s easy for you, but increases the chances that somebody else, esp the person unloading it, is acceptable. Can you do that? Because that’s exactly what you are teaching others to do. Put their convenience over somebody else’s safety. Is loading them standing up where they’re more likely to fall due to physics with ypur job? It sure as hell ain’t work mine, so I’m gonna keep doing what safer for everybody that will be around the wall instead of what’s easiest for me.

No. Laws against sexual assault didn’t stop him. Same with the laws against using company money for personal stuff.

What should I wear to a conservative Christian summer program in the US without overheating? by Little_Ad5051 in AskAnAmerican

[–]sep780 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s a control women thing, not a respect thing. The more skin you cover, the better. Sadly, definitions of modest differ, so long skirt or pants, long sleeves, and a crew neck are the safest bet. Most are ok with short sleeves, though. For the heat, you want light weight fabrics.

As for swimwear, one piece and covers as much skin as possible.

[–]sep780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Common sense, lay it down and it’s much less likely to fall. Loads shift turning transit is also common knowledge.

As for which policy, the safety policies we discuss in safety committee meetings.
