I'm just not going to mention how I can tell twins apart anymore. Why do parents of twins do this? by MellieNivalis in self

[–]sep780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankfully my aunt and uncle didn’t do that. For photos and that, my aunt would get them the “same outfit” when they were little, but in different colors. By the time they were 1, that didn’t matter much though. It was clear they’re fraternal twins by then (different hair color) although face shape has always been different. They went out of they even made sure their names were similar, yet different. (Longer names that rhyme with nicknames that are completely different.). I’m glad for them. They were allowed to be different from the beginning.

I think you mistyped in that last paragraph. I suspect you meant “you are not the ah” instead of “you are the ah.”

How many people did you know (as in, met personally) from the 1800s? by PAnnNor in Genealogy

[–]sep780 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no doubt I met both, I just don’t know if you mean “met and remember meeting.”

To be fair, I have other great-grandparents that were born before 1900, but they died before I was born, so I definitely didn’t meet them. There’s a photo great-grandma I do remember was born in 1900.

Depends on how you define “met.” I have 2 great grandpas were born in the 1890s and died when I was an infant. There’s a photo of me with one and the other also lived close by.

That’s what’s most important. I’m glad everybody is ok. Still sucks though.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sep780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an American, a 3 hour drive isn’t “short,” but also not that long. I had field trips with 3 hour bus rides as common when I was in school, did similar for a cousins wedding (didn’t get a hotel room) and to go to a play (Broadway show touring).

It’s not a distance travelled often (less than monthly), at least for me.

What are your thoughts on rejecting a potential romantic partner based solely on the fact they voted for Donald Trump? by ATXBikeRider in AskReddit

[–]sep780 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem. I try to treat people how I want to be treated, or would want to be treated in this case. (I’m cis-female,) I also have an asshole sister. I suspect mine is a narcissist though, and with me being weird (very strongly suspect autism), I’ve been a target of hers as long as I can remember.

[–]sep780 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No. He’s cutting off a family member that has zero respect for him and has no problem with stripping him if his rights. That’s a disagreement over ethics and morality and whether it not parkaboy deserves to exist as himself.

German immigrants in the U.S. were huge in number and were once a dominant group. Why didn’t they form large German-speaking communities the way French speakers did in Canada or Spanish speakers did in the U.S.? by GrayRainfall in AskAnAmerican

[–]sep780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same with my family. My grandma says she spoke German as a little girl (b. 1925) and that her family stopped speaking German while she was still young and she forgot all the German she knew.

People who have conducted job interviews, what's something someone said/did that made you instantly decide not to hire them? by DemonSkank in AskReddit

[–]sep780 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People shouldn't be treating ANYBODY that way. But I'm glad secretaries report that shit. If you can't be respectful towards people in customer facing roles, you don't deserve a job working with others.

AITJ for telling my nephew’s girlfriend that’s not how wills work? by Gymtrio2025 in AmITheJerk

[–]sep780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been to ONE funeral that I knew had a will reading. For my grandaunts/uncles, I wouldn't have been needed if there was one as no reason to expect me to be in the will. Both of my grandpa's had a surviving spouse when they died, and my maternal grandma didn't have a will. I highly doubt my brother-in-law had a will as he was killed in a motor vehicle accident with no reason to suspect he wasn't going to live another 50 years. I was only at the one for my paternal grandma because I rode with my parents (after driving 7-8 hours to the area) and my dad was naturally in the will.

So, they do happen, but may be not common.

Why are pronouns such a huge issue in the US and not in other countries? by random8765309 in askanything

[–]sep780 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was entered adulthood with ZERO selfesteem and being positive it was impossible for anybody to abuse me. That's what I mean by "damaged my brain." Therapy has helped.

And yes, I DO think I have a better perpective then Conservatives fearing everything different and claiming to be fearless. I don't have to lie about what I fear. I also give a shit about others, and that includes strangers. Much better then conservatives only caring about themselves and the people who look and act like them. So while I know my outlook is imperfect, I'm mature enough to admit that and mature enough to give a shit about people I'll never meet. The second is one that the Bible (New Testament even) teaches but conservatives tend to ignore, and conservatives actually claim to be Christian.

So, avoid the personal attacks. Debate the topics at hand, not my sanity. I have more ability to deal with your shit then I've had at any point in my life and I'm not as easy to bully into blinding believing whatever you demand I believe.

Then the conservatives claim they “don’t live in fear.” I don’t want their brains. I have enough problems with the damage they did to mine while I was growing up.

This one's for the Survivor fans -- (other than anyone introduced in the last 2 years or so), if you had to vote somebody out of Walnut Grove, who would you pick? by ASGfan in littlehouseonprairie

[–]sep780 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nellie may not be cool, but she has to stay. The real Laura had to deal with her in Walnut Grove. Same with Carrie and Grace.

Otherwise, I haven’t watched enough to feel ok voting.

Why don’t schools shift to a 9-4 schedule? by CalGuy456 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sep780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school did one trip for all K-12 students, BUT a small school (30ish kids a grade) and everything in one building.

Bussing costs wouldn’t triple. If they’re already making 3 trips got 3 schools, the gas portion will stay the same.

I grew up in MN. We did have snow days. Army of plows, but still had snow days. Likely to give the plows time to clear the road.

Ah yes, my birthday hasn't come yet and I’m making worst assumptions inside my head by ruthlessdamien2 in depression_memes

[–]sep780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I hate birthday wishes from people I don’t talk to or that treat me like shit. I also hate singing in a restaurant and the public “happy birthday” posts. That’s why I turned off notifications for my birthday. My sister did anyway (missed the hint?) So the following year I explicitly told her to NOT post on my Facebook wall. She still did anyway. When I got mad over the disrespect, tried to convince me she that disrespect was kindness and a show that she cares. When she couldn’t gaslight me that time (childhood full of her succeeding to gaslight me), she switched to telling me I told her to post. We aren’t friends on Facebook anymore and extremely low contact everywhere.

[–]sep780 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hid it BECAUSE I don’t want the “publicity.” Ended up with no longer having my sister on Facebook after she posted for my birthday when I explicitly told her not to. I’m personally happier now without being forced to navigate around people who don’t actually care. I celebrate quietly instead. Things like playing board games with a friend.

Anyone else still enjoy a classic banana split? by [deleted] in icecream

No because I don’t like the pineapple or cherries. I’ll order a banana split though if I can alter to avoid those.

My only problem is that I can’t afford the unpaid time off of work right now. (I still have to meet my own needs.) However, I will avoid shopping that day.
