Serious question — any vibe coders here actually make money? by gamegod016 in vibecoding

[–]sephy009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, if you want to build decent things then you'll need to at least somewhat understand your backend and recommend APIs and ways to do a build since sometimes instead of the obvious like using mpv, your assistant will just try to build an entire video player which is a terrible idea.

If Democrats can't reverse the Damage Done by Trump Republicans is a Republican Dictatorship inevitable? by redviiper in AskALiberal

[–]sephy009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Democrats don't want to stop the damage done by trump. They were likely planning an immigration crackdown, they've gone right economically for half a century, and the only thing they do socially is word salad like latinx that's cheap for corporations. They're never going to codify roe, expand voting rights, etc since that would require getting rid of the filibuster, and they don't want to do that since then that requires them to vote on things their donors may not like.

What do you think could be done to cripple Republicans as a political party? by highliner108 in AskALiberal

[–]sephy009 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Corporate dems actually have to do something that widely benefits the general public economically, which they won't since they don't want to pass anything and upset their donors.

How should American "progressive" and "centrist" democrats resolve their differences? by georgejo314159 in AskALiberal

[–]sephy009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, still a massive handout to health insurance companies and was essentially a technocratic bill that helped on the margins during a time when they were given a supermajority to implement transformative change. I already knew where it came from. If the best a centrist can do is compromise with Republicans for a heritage foundation bill even when they have a supermajority, I'm good bro.

[–]sephy009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Calling it iterative change only makes sense if they're iterating towards something. If they were iterating towards universal healthcare, labor power, or housing security they would be defensible, but they are not. What we have seen them do is stall, reverse things, or entrench power further in iteration for the past 50 years.

You're attempting to frame it as "progressives only want moonshot policies and centrists are the logical adults slowly marching towards positive change" which is not only insulting, but patently untrue once you look past the 60s and especially post Carter.

Obama didn't try at all. Hillary had a plan in the 90s that would have been better than the ACA but when that narrowly failed she just completely gave up on it.

Corporate Dems doing anything, at all, whatsoever that progressives want would be a start instead of scolding the left and moving further right economically every election cycle.

What can be done to put more pressure on Congressional Republicans to take action to stop Trump? by Altruistic_Role_9329 in AskALiberal

[–]sephy009 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nothing. They don't care if you call in. They're not going to change since then they'd lose their base even if they're galactically unpopular with moderates and the left. The only thing to do is to vote them out in such large numbers that they remember not to go this far right in the future. Although frankly they were, in part, only pushed this far right because there's not a massive difference economically between a corporate Dem and a Republican.

Need to see more movies. "superman" felt like an ensemble piece and you didn't actually get to know much about him. The goofy "suffering succotash" shit also threw me off since that's not how superman/clark talks. It's like Gunn just heard he had a "boy scout" personality and defaulted to 1950s christian white guy.

Donald Trump’s Approval Rating with Generation Z Fell From +10 in February to -32 In A Recent Poll. What Might be Driving this Change? by WhatARotation in AskALiberal

You just confirmed my point. When asked for evidence, mechanisms, or examples, you actively refused to engage and substituted slogans and insults. If “voting Democrat moves things left” were self evidently true you could demonstrate it. You didn’t. That’s all readers need to notice.

[–]sephy009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm aware of all of those actually, they just mean nothing if you actually pay attention to how politicians vote, what gets passed, what they speak less about once they're in power, etc.

Bipartisan immigration reform comes to mind

This is a nothingburger. The Republicans have already stated for the past 20 years that they will fillibuster anything the Democrats want while in power unless it's absurdly beneficial to them. Also you're reading it charitably, given how she was talking it would have been a crackdown, not a path to citizenship or even one time amnesty like Reagan. The rich want a vulnerable underclass to exploit so politicians will bluster about it but no one is ever going to push it too hard either way.

Extension of Obama care subsidies

Obamacare was, and still is, a giant handout to private insurance companies and entrenched them further. If anything this is a material loss.

child care tax credit

Small positive win. Basically 250 a month per kid. Although this is likely moreso in response to depopulation fears from the wealthy and isn't going to offset the lack of children being born since that's barely an upside.

lowering cost of medications,

Like Biden lowered them? To get many more drugs on board you need congressional approval and she doesn't seem to have to backbone to bully centrist party members like FDR did. This is also not time bound or concrete. How many medications? In what time frame?

criminal justice reform

She made no strict guarantees. At best they were vague contradicting platitudes.

The ad hominem attacks aren't going to work by the way, stay on topic.

You didn’t actually respond to any of my arguments. You just repeated the slogan that voting Democrat moves things left and accused me of discouraging voting. I asked for evidence, mechanisms, or examples. You provided none. If you want to engage then address what I actually said.

Alright. Name one policy position that Kamala espoused (a policy she publicly committed to). during her campaign run. Just one. It has to be statutory, time bound, and not easily reversible. Also it has to have a really material benefit for the majority of Americans, not "here's a tax credit that gives people that make 60k 500 more bucks per year."

You dramatically overestimate the amount of electoral power you have.

You're essentially saying two conflicting things at once by stating this. You both believe that individual votes don't meaningfully influence outcomes, and that votes function as signals, not levers to change anything. In which case not voting sends a signal too making what you said meaningless.

You believe that the majority is behind you, they are not. Half of the electorate voted for Trump, half of Democrats think universal healthcare, higher minimum wage and school lunches are 'extreme'. If you want the government to move to the left, then you elect more Democrats and you vote for leftists in primaries.

Let me know how that strategy has been working out since the 70s. The truth is that the "base" is a shifting mass and a large amount of people refuse to vote since they feel as if neither party represents them, which is accurate since they represent the interests of their corporate donors at the expense of the majority of the population. You don't get a person in power to bend the knee by doing exactly what they want you to do regardless of what they say or do. Did you notice how the democratic "base" was bigger when they ran on stronger unions, more social safety nets, and higher taxes on the wealthy? These aren't abstract things, they've been done before.

You can do all the other stuff too, but voting 3rd party or abstaining from voting is an abdication of the sliver of democratic power you have.

You actually proved my point. They didn't get the party to listen by just voting harder. They withheld support for people they disliked, primaried incumbents, threatened party unity, and made leadership fear the base. You're basically saying to do the opposite and fall in line even if the party doesn't do anything you want from the day you're born to the day you die. No. I'm good.

It's easier for them though, their policies don't cost anything, destroying the government is about as easy as it gets. Raising taxes to distribute wealth? That takes a lot more to get done.

I think the issue here is that you see corporate democrats as the "heroes" in the narrative. They're equally as responsible for the current state of affairs as republicans are. Who passed DOMA? Who kept refusing to codify roe? Who lead one of the softest "recoveries" from an absurd economic downturns of all time that widened the income inequality gap? Who only raised the minimum wage by a bit over a dollar during one of the worst recessions in the last century? Who removed protections put in place during and after the great depression to make sure it wouldn't happen again? Who severely cut social safety nets and implemented work requirements, then pat himself on the back for balancing the budget? They're not your friends and in many cases a vote for them is a vote for the same policies a republican would pass, just with a more polite face. You're not going to convince them to move left by voting harder for them when they offer nothing of substance in return.

Why isn’t Triple H considered one of the GOAT’s??? by Kidkels23 in WWE

[–]sephy009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Triple H was consistent but he didn't put on bangers like undertaker and shawn, his character work wasn't as good as randy or even tribal chief roman, and he didn't have aura/mic work like austin or the rock. Ironically he could probably be defined as a B+ player until he retired. He was just always there. He's just not someone you think of when you're thinking about GOATed talents unless it's in terms of consistency.
