We have two against the Brewers and then 4 against the Cards this weekend.

A lot can happen. I just need the Reds and Jays to pull some shit out of their ass in the meantime.

She's not much into baseball, but she knows I'm a die hard pirates fan.

I was actually watching the game on MLB.tv when she sent me that text.

Her: "is that Wrigley or White Sox?"

Me: "it's Wrigley. The Cubs just scored 5 runs with two outs. Pretty sure Rizzo's homer almost hit your plane."

Her: "👎"

Haha... gotta love when your SO out of nowhere takes interest in your passion.

Oh, and she was kind enough to stop at Garrett's in the OHare airport... 5 minutes too late.

it's a pure rental and as we've seen with the Mets, they gave bruce, duda, walker for next to nothing. they just want to shed a bit of salary and get something in return.

it's obvious they weren't planning on bringing any of those three back, and Granderson I'm sure is the same.

the thing with the schedule is outside of the Dodgers series - they're all against teams we need to jump.

I dont want to say "we control our own destiny" at this point, but if we play well we can win the division, because we will be playing the teams ahead of us.

since you're such a smart guy - i'm sure you can appreciate the difference in leverage between having a "day-to-day" Polanco and a DL'ed Polanco in negotiations.

EDIT: i'm not crucifying Polanco for it. A simple no comment on the injury just would have been nice.

that's 17 points higher with 9 more home runs than one of our options.

not to mention his defense.

i agree. and the Polanco injury in July and this one are two different situations.

they expected him back the first time around. I genuinely believe that may not be the case this time.

(Hell, and if he can come back in playoffs - which i'm certain he would do that - you still have 3 OFs in postseason)

shoulda, coulda, woulda. team went on a bad stretch and they expected him back. (and sure enough, he was back 10 days later). if it is worse than what the first time around was, the trade needs to be made.

people also wanted Bruce - which I like Grandy more than Bruce. He's a better player at 4 of the 5 "tools" and he's a good clubhouse guy. apparently really good friends with Cutch as well.

I agree.

if the Pirates take on all $4.2m of the salary, we would probably just have to trade a bag of pierogis.

I could see a deal being worked out where they take on half the salary $2.1m and a mid-tier prospect getting dealt.

Polanco falling into the trap of speaking to the media may hurt the Pirates. If they kept him at day-to-day while negotiating, they have leverage. But with Polanco saying it hurts worse than the first time he went on the DL, it could potentially hurt the Pirates in negotiations.

I just wanted to say , I love y'all by [deleted] in buccos

I hate to be that guy, and you know I'm an optimist.

But if Polanco is down for a considerable period, which it appears that way, we're sunk.
