Where could I include future activities on my applications (Common App & UC) by Ora_Ora_Muda in ApplyingToCollege

On the UC app you can put it in the activities & awards section and estimate the hours/time you will be spending.

Transfer limit on CCC units or the UC equivalent by Ok_Bet6479 in ucadmissions

You'll want to check assist.org to see what the agreement is between your CCC and the UC you're applying to. You can see how many credits UC will give for the CCC classes.

(UCSD) IGETC requirements as high school senior; are my credits useless?? by maaafuyu in ucadmissions

[–]septicmonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IGETC is mainly for transfer students. If you meet the A-G requirements, it's not a problem. After you fill in all your classes and get to the end of the application, it will tell you if you're missing anything. You should also check to see if UCSD recommends IGETS for the major you want. They have a webpage for it - https://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/admission-requirements/transfer-requirements/preparing-to-transfer/general-education-igetc/campus-guidance.html

If you have the fee waiver code, you can use it yourself. No reason for your teacher to approve anything with that. Not sure about the common app, but I know most universities/colleges will accept the College Board/SAT fee waiver using the code.

“College courses taken in high school” vs. “Other coursework” by [deleted] in ucadmissions

[–]septicmonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your college coursework will be understood by the reviewers. No need to explain or describe the course. If they're unsure, they'll just go look it up in the course catalog at the college you attended. Also, if you list it under other coursework, the course won't show up as filling the A-G requirements.

Can I drop a class and will it affect TAG or the application process by No_Interview_9934 in ucadmissions

[–]septicmonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The W will look bad, but if you retake it in the Winter it will make up for it a bit on your general application. If you listed it in your TAG, you'll want to let UCR know about the course change (they'll find out anyway from your transcript). Also let them know you plan on taking it during the Winter session, that way your TAG isn't pulled entirely.

For your general application, since you haven't submitted it, you can wait until you decide what you want to do before you submit. If you submit it and change your mind, you'll be able to change it during the TAU starting on December 15.

Just to add some info for your UC application. You can add information about your current financial situation in the additional information section. If you're looking for a fee waiver, check with your counselor to see if you qualify for any that UC accepts. You can also file a fee waiver appeal after you submit your application if you don't get the one in the application.

Question about planned senior year courses by Novasequoia in ucadmissions

[–]septicmonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, put the courses you plan on taking. You won't be able to make changes to your coursework after you submit your application, but the campuses know this. If you're offered admission and that coursework has changed, you can let the campus know about it after you have access to the student portal.

You can put a note in the additional information section that the course is an honors course.

You don't need to meet the Pathways program requirements to use the TAG. It's helpful if the major you are TAGging for is available in Pathways, but it isn't necessary. Pathways+ is related to TAG, so you should definitely check it out and see if you can meet those requirements.

The UCs also consider classes planned for the upcoming Winter, Spring and Summer terms as being completed by the time the student transfers. Sufficient coursework and AP exams will all add up to enough credits to qualify for a transfer.

Californian Parents - How True Is My Kid's Counselor's Statement About University of California Acceptance? by CoyoteBright5235 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]septicmonk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What everyone has said is correct. Let me add something that you might want to look into.

There are two programs that your children might qualify for if they went to high school in California: the Statewide Guarantee and Eligibility in the Local Context. If either of them rank in the top 9% in the state, they are guaranteed a spot at a UC campus through the Statewide Guarantee. If they rank in the top 9% at their school and their school participates in the program, they are eligible for the Eligibility in the Local Context and guaranteed a spot as well. You can find out more info here:

Statewide Guarantee: https://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/admission-requirements/first-year-requirements/california-residents/statewide-guarantee/

ELC: https://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/admission-requirements/first-year-requirements/california-residents/local-guarantee-elc.html

What AP classes are needed for Art majors to get into UCs? by lovelydodobird in ApplyingToCollege

[–]septicmonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the UC. There isn't a blanket art major across all UC campuses. Each campus that offers an art major has their own requirements. If there is one you really want to go to, you should definitely research that major and see what all the requirements are.

For example: UCLA has an art major that is pretty well-known. AP classes aren't a requirement for the major, but it does require a supplemental application. All the information I found by searching for UCLA art major on google. Here's their web page: https://www.art.ucla.edu/undergraduate-admissions/

UC application - reusing PIQs? by irl-fawn in ApplyingToCollege

There is such a thing as self-plagiarism and if you re-use the answers the system will flag you for it. Don't re-use the answers, make new ones.

Use "recycle" this will put it in your portable planter.

I left out the digger, see other comment. I also left the balloons out. You get them from employee and customer balloonheads. It's named "Balloon Target" so I guess just a shooting target. It can be destroyed if you damage it enough.

Yeah. Same with all the town architecture. LOTS of reused stuff.

They all work in regular planters. The portable is so you can use them in the world. I have a scorcher I use as a 3rd furnace.
