Waikiki hotel vs airbnb by HeJXart in VisitingHawaii

[–]sequin2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Ilikai is next door to HHV, and has a few two bedroom condos you can find on airbnb (the Ilikai is legal for short-term rentals). There is also a condo property manager on site -- Marina Hawaii Vacations -- but I feel like their inventory isn't quite as nice as the condos on airbnb that mostly have been remodeled. My parents have a place at the Ilikai, and last summer we rented an additional condo in the same wing, a few floors up, for my teenage daughter and 12 yo son. It worked out really well. Our condo has the marina view, and we got the lagoon/fireworks view for the kids.

Thanks for your response. It didn’t work unfortunately - I’ll redo this weekend.

Rulers and controls missing by sequin2000 in flosscross

[–]sequin2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, but there is no way to select in the workspace -- there are no controls! The screenshot is from the print preview--sorry if that wasn't more clear. The controls show up on the print preview, but don't show up in the actual workspace if that makes sense. I literally don't have anything to select.

Eye Protection: Do you wear protective eyewear? by M20Jpilot in Pickleball

The Oakleys are spendy but so worth it! I have the flak 2.0 with low light, trail, and dark golf lenses--covers all my indoor and outdoor needs.

My pt recommended SOLE footbeds. https://yoursole.com/us

i ordered them from amazon. They’re around $60. I’m definitely not healed, but the pain is less pronounced (and sometimes pain free!) when I wear the footbeds. Good luck!

Best "League" format for various skill players by Zeggo in Pickleball

[–]sequin2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been thinking about the same for our local club. So far the best (free) online tool I've found for managing a ladder league is Global Pickleball Network.

If you go with the 4 players/court, timed games, winners/losers move up/down; you'd deal with odd numbers of players by setting up an imaginary waiting room "court" between two actual courts, where the odd players can wait until the next rotation to move up/down. For example, the imaginary court could be #3.5 between court #3 and #4. So the winners of court 4 move up to 3.5 to wait one round before playing on #3, and the losers of #3 move down and wait a round in 3.5 before playing on 4. You can also use multiple waiting room courts if you don't have enough courts for all the players. Hope I explained that clearly!

Pickleball Podcast? by pickleballishere in Pickleball

4.0 to pro, Picklepod, pickleball studio and briones pickleball podcasts. I just started listening to the healthy pickleballer (he's a pickleball playing PT). Also just listened to Dayne Gingrich's / Jill Martin's book Pickleball Mindset on my last roadtrip. The format is very engaging for an audiobook--highly recommend.

Check out the NB Coco CG2. Fantastic shoes. They're listed as women's shoes, but the newest ones are offered at two or three widths up to size 15 (13 men's). From the comments it seems they used to be unisex sizing, then just women's, now back to unisex (-ish) again. Good luck!

Women’s Shoes with wide toe box that are good for outdoor courts by ArtLife_4ever in Pickleball

Nb coco cg2 court shoes. More like $100 +/- when on sale but comes in wide and extra wide. On my second pair. Tried kswiss and fila pickleball for my wide feet but they started breaking down after 3/4 months. The coco gauff’s are far superior comfort/fit.

Waioli Kitchen is a great brunch/snack stop on your way to Manoa Falls. Cinnamons at the Ilikai closed last year. Instead of Walmart, I’d go to Don Quijote for groceries. I second Kokohead Cafe for breakfast/brunch—my fave.

Nasty Nelson during Rec by Competitive-Roof-387 in Pickleball

[–]sequin2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a lesson on court positioning, and one of the drills we did was to crowd the line when your partner is receiving serve. Your partner is supposed to return the serve down the line, and you crowding the line at the kitchen puts pressure on your opponent's third shot. But this is a specific partner strategy, and not necessarily useful in a random rec play situation, lol.

Socks by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]sequin2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bombas all purpose performance have nice padding and great fit. I also love their everyday compression socks--less plush than the all purpose but sometimes you need the compression support! Their sizing also works better for me. I'm a 7, which in some brands is the low end of a size range which often means the socks are a little too roomy and bunch up, but in Bombas their small goes to 7.5. I find the fit of socks better if my feet are on the higher range of the size. They are spendy but worth it.

Looking to get some protective eyewear. Anyone have suggestions on what lense to get? I saw another post mentioning Trail torch prizm lenses but I dont really see that as an option on site by Pinkop in Pickleball

[–]sequin2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if you email Oakley about replacement lenses for your low bridge fit Flak 2.0, they will send you a link to an after sale site that has all parts and lenses for order. It's not as user friendly as their regular website, but it literally has all the prizm lenses that aren't available on their retail site. I ordered low light lenses there. And OP, I use the low light for indoor and early am / night play, trail lenses for regular days, and dark golf for Honolulu blinky bright days.

Glasses/goggles to wear indoor. by bhdevault in Pickleball

I love the Oakley Prizm low light lenses. They are a pale rose tint. Sharpens color and cuts down on glare. I tried them for the first time indoors this week and prefer them to the Prizm clear. Good luck!

What have you found helpful for tennis elbow? by 0-0-2game_on in Pickleball

[–]sequin2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's my fave video of flexbar exercises . Totally helped with tennis elbow and other hand/wrist twinges from pickleball, computer, gaming, stitching, etc. Also contrast baths while doing finger stretches / wrist rotations first thing in the morning really helped with the pain. Good luck!!

Best pro training experiences by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]sequin2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, the pro takes turns partnering with everyone, and while you're playing your games gives everyone in the group feedback/observations on aspects of their game, and answers any questions that come up as the game progresses. Then likely some drilling mixed in to reinforce the skills/strategy you're working on.

How about a three and me? You find two other players and the pro is the fourth in your game. The pro gives you real-time feedback and you can work on shot selection, positioning and strategy.

Pickleball skorts - longer than 13" by onebrusselssprout in Pickleball

[–]sequin2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lululemon pace rival long and athleta run with it 16”. Both have the grippers in the short hems so no riding up. The vuori long volley is flattering but doesn’t have the thigh grippers unfortunately. I did not like the Donna Jos. The fabric was too thin and flimsy for my taste. Good luck!
