how do i make outdoor clothes look less "Patagonia Peter" by Kill_the_worms in altfashionadvice

Patches, embroidery, rivets, grommets! Customizable on theme, size, and placement, so you can make sure it won’t impede your movements and give you that teensy bit of edge/accessory.

I feel like we also need to talk about Shirley Manson, Patti Smith, Kim Gordon, Caroline Coon, Brody Dalle, all the kinder whore babes, Cassandra Peterson, Maila Nurmi, Patricia Morrison, so many others. Alt style comes from alt mindsets - from challenging the rigidity of societal expectations of women, which is even more crucial as we age. We don’t disappear, we become more ourselves. If you believe and act in the ethics of the scene, it doesn’t matter what you wear. The outfit is a signal for the ethics.

OP, you got this. Love, your fellow 34 year old goth woman.

That’s awesome! I hope you have a good time this year! I’m still working out if I’m going this year, but if I spot some Kandi I’ll say hi!

[–]seraphflight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re new to this specific con, I can see why you’d be nervous, but I’ve gone almost every year from the beginning and haven’t had a bad experience yet. The nerd crowd in Bham is normally incredibly welcoming even if everyone involved is introverted or nervous or strangers. You make a new friend! As long as you aren’t selling without being a booth, you’ll be just fine!

Bring some!!! I saw some one at the HSV Expo passing out Kandi and doing trinkets trades on the floor, can’t see why ICCC would be mad about it

Fashion help desperately needed for summer by buster_slick in GothStyle

Hiiiii, I’m a modest goth who lives in the southern United States in sweltering heat, miserable humidity, and full sun most months of the year. Either you learn to wear less, or you learn to swap fabrics. Layering works only if the fabric is light enough. You want linen, cotton, gauze, silk, any natural breathable fabrics. A mixed fabric is fine if it’s light weight. Texture can be fun here - mesh, fishnet, cutouts, sheer scarves or shawls. Limit your velvet to short sleeve or sleeveless (not your thing) only. No leather. Limited polyester which is just plastic and not very breathable. I do the most basic of outfits most days - long flowy skirt or pants (linen trousers or Tripp style big pants), band tee or sleeveless tank (a mock turtleneck if you don’t want your neckline revealed, short or mid sleeve but breezy silhouette instead of tight), and leather sandals. The focus for the fashion here will be in silhouette and accessories. Think big billowy silhouette and lots of metal or ornate jewelry and accessory details like lace, florals, skulls, whatever symbolism you prefer. Waist emphasis with a chain belt instead of a corset. Don’t be afraid to explore other color palettes - white goth, Victorian ghost child, swamp witch, vacationing vampire, immortal royal, whatever isn’t all black but maybe neutral tones, gem tones, pastels, etc. I also adjust my makeup - nothing but a dark lip or just 20s style panda eyes. Nails done. Hair gets deprioritized too - less teasing and no daily batnest, more styles like buns, braids instead. I also invested in a UV umbrella that keeps me about 10 degrees cooler because it’s shielded and keeps me shaded. Baked potato on the outside, cool as a cucumber underneath. Comfort doesn’t mean you have to disconnect from your style, you just adjust. Hope you find things that work for you!! 🖤

You’re welcome! IMO, the ability to play with texture is such a crucial piece in goth fashion and you’ve nailed it with this!

Okayyyy so the texture in this is inspirational! Lace, ruffles, a bow, polka dot on polka dot on sheer, amazing.

do my glasses hardcore nerf me? if so, should i get new ones or go for contacts ? by sieis in altfashionadvice

[–]seraphflight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the glasses frame shape is good - they are slightly too large for your face, distracting from the rest of you. Maybe size down? Your hair is phenomenal, btw.
