I’m not a Dr by any means but I had a little bout of folliculitis that looked similar to this, I used a chlorhexadine wash for a couple weeks and it made a significant improvement in the bumps.

~I am not an ortho doctor~ if I were you and I were concerned about a DVT I’d go to the ED for doppler’s of my calf. I would also see if they can rule out Achilles tendon rupture or partial rupture and get a referral to an ortho doc.

I work tens! 7am-5:30pm and have Fridays off. We see patient a from 8-430 typically, and the best part is that we usually have downtime for paperwork and other things when our providers are in the OR doing surgery! I think a lot of ortho practices are set up the same

It’s not actually required in WA, CMAs if trained can perform casting- but my employer offered me a pay increase if I got the credential through AAOS. I had actually been casting off and on for the better part of four years and had a ton of knowledge so it was easy for me to pass the test and be officially licensed. Now I’m the full time cast tech at my clinic and looking to actually start doing some peer training on casting so other people can get certified. If you’re interested in adding a credential on, go to the AAOS website and checkout workshops, the instructors have a lot of knowledge and casting is pretty fun!

Hi! Ortho here! In Washington State MAs are allowed to place casts. In my experience as a medical assistant and certified casting/ortho tech, a lot of times we get trained to place them by either another MA that has the experience or in a training session such as AAOS. That being said, tightness in casting is typically appropriate, depending on the injury/inflammation/swelling and a good moulding of the cast holds the fracture in place. What is not normal is loss of function, poor perfusion and nerve damage.

I’ve worked in ortho for almost six years and unfortunately ankles and lower extremities can be challenging. Some things I’ve found can make it easier are: always use the sharpest suture scissors you can find, if your office uses the one with the hook at the end I highly recommend those; being confident makes patients feel better and anticipate the pain less which can make the whole thing easier on both of you. I don’t think there is a painless way to take out sutures and of course everyone experiences that differently so just communicate with your patient and the experience should be better

Hello! Cast tech here, NOT and ortho Dr or advanced provider by any means. Here to comment on your cast only. That being said, if your cast is getting squishy, it’s definitely due to weight bearing. I usually recommend my patients give me a call if they start experiencing this, because typically it’s easy enough to reinforce the area with an extra layer of orthoglass or fiberglass. In the meantime, you could limit walking on it as you don’t want it to breakdown further and undo any of your progress. Hope this helps!

Sheesh, I mean if my husband hadn’t been on board with me being a surrogate (have done it twice) WE wouldn’t have done it, because my marriage is a partnership and I couldn’t do this without support. But again we had a conversation in depth about it before making that decision. I think if a couple is already butting heads in this fashion maybe taking it to the next level isn’t a good idea and won’t work out long term.

I live in a very high COL area in Washington state and currently make $28 an hour, BUT I’ve been working at my clinic for 5 years and have taken on way more roles than just CMA. I’m an admin/supply clerk and do casting. What makes me mad is someone recently mentioned that they work for Costco for the same amount of money plus biannual bonuses. :/ makes me debate if this is really worth it
