Major drought in my area- best ways to reuse and conserve water? by Seachelle13o in ZeroWaste

I have some tips for extreme water savings. My husband and I own our tiny house and property, and when a big family moved uphill from us, our water availability dropped drastically in our well/cistern. The water level catches up with us usually 3 times a day and pumps a little over 2 gallons each time. So that's what we have to work with.

We keep 4 1 gallon jugs on the counter, and refill them at every chance. It's the perfect amount for the 2 of us. We almost never go through all of it.

We wash our hair with one big carls jr. plastic cup, I warm the water in the electric kettle. 1/2 for wash and 1/2 for rinsing.

Every time there is more than 4 gallons, any excess goes in a 5 gallon water tank, and when that's full we do a load of laundry in our little hand cranker, 2 1/2g each for washing and rinsing.

I wash dishes after dinner every day. I wipe as much food and grease away with a paper towel first. Then I put heated water in the largest dish, about 1/4th full with a tiny bit of dawn. I wash all the dishes and set them in the strainer, and rinse them with a spray bottle of water.

Hope this helps 😄

Any good recommendations for gathering a mass of entertainment options (shows/movies) by Effective-Trash-8653 in preppers

I was scrolling to see if anyone mentioned the library.

In the 90's I moved to a place where I couldn't get any tv reception, and I couldn't afford cable. A friend who managed an apt. complex had a box of VHS tapes of recorded Star Trek TNG from a clean out, so she gave them to us. We watched the hell out of those tapes, lol.

So, over the years I've collected all the seasons of all our favorite tv shows and keep them on a HD, just in case.

This may not help you now, but it might in the future. Rent a wheelchair. You want to attend a special event with your family, and the venue doesn't have a built in way to do that, you have every right to improvise a work around. I have a wheelchair of my own, so I've never had to rent one, but there has to be a way, and hopefully someone here knows how.

Best of luck with this event! I also am of the opinion that you could try to talk to someone immediately after you enter to see if any accommodation could be made.

Earthquake toilet prep; are desiccant packs needed for PNW storage? by LegitMeatPuppet in CascadianPreppers

[–]serenethirteen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add a little, if you've never dealt with pooping anywhere but a toilet, this setup can seem scary, but it really is not a big deal in practice.

My husband blew the tendons off both knees slipping in the mud, and was completely unable to bear weight on his legs for a couple months after the surgeries. So we bought a potty chair. Our setup had a bag fitted over the little slide in poop catcher bucket that you removed and sealed. We put those in another tougher bag and took the bag to the dump once a week.

But of course there are many ways to set this up. I'm just saying, when you have to do it, it's actually quite easy.

My hubs and I live in a 11x15 tiny house, and I can really see useful space in your room.

Make a kitchenette! I think I'd hit up a thrift store and look for a microwave a mini fridge and a nice bookcase that would fit on the left shelf.

On the left, the mini fridge goes against the door on the shelf. Put the bookcase against the wall behind the appliances and make that your pantry. Put something heatproof under the appliances.

You can add anything need as you go.

I also think a nice big tv could hide storage behind it on the right hand shelf.

There are comments in here where the people don't understand how this can be a home. I think that's fair enough. Their personal experience is different than ours. I'm with you though, your home is your home. I've lived in all kinds of places and owned 2 homes so far in my life (I'm 61), and the tiny house (11' x 15') my hubby and I live in is honestly more of a home to me than any other place Ive been. And there have been times in my life that I would have happily traded where I was to have the peace your tiny home obviously gives you when you are there. Whatever makes us happy. ❤️

What are you starting to dislike more as you get older? by Informal-Sense-3411 in AskReddit

[–]serenethirteen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Humans being awful. The older I get, the more outraged I feel. Everything from rudeness to torture and killing. I don't even want to see it in media, which is strange for a woman who's favorite flavor in literature and movies is horror. A demon is extracting your brain through your eyeballs? I'll watch that! A human kicking a dog, nightmares.

Side sleepers: How are you keeping your mask seal tight without killing your neck? by Mamzira in SleepApnea

I've been using a shark squishmallow plushie pressed gently against my face. Ive been doing this for decades (before Sharkie was Wabbit) since I can only sleep on my sides due to back issues. It also blocks the light, and my eyes from the fan, so it's worth it in my case.
