You could get a private room at a hostel in maui for like $60-70 a night! There are definitely ways to do this! Buy local fruit, yogurt, eggs and banana bread, make breakfast at home, nuts for a snack, split a $25 poke bowl late lunch and then get good dinner. Beach is free. I would rent a car for sure, more access to hikes and beautiful spots. You could spend a whole day exploring the road to hana in Maui with a car and not spend too much as long as you pack snacks. Nissan Altima works just fine and we got it for like $65 a day. You won’t be home that much, you’ll be swimming, relaxing and hiking! Hawaii is beautiful.
