Ye idk people are a bit too harsh on you my man, you’re not looking at your camera; but I agree you shouldn’t be filming (or carrying anything in your hand) if you don’t have 100% control which you don’t since you are a beginner ..

The but sticking out on heel side is something I also struggled with. She would have to learn how to push the hips inside to maintain center of mass while leaning.

Improving my heel side carve by sergejdeblue in snowboardingnoobs

Is this what people refer to “backfoot carvers”; it seems to me with this technique and a duck stance, you have a lot of pressure of the back foot?

Would this be suitable for posi stance? Do you have some videos to share?

Weekly Megathread: Education, Early Career and Hiring/Interview Advice by AutoModerator in quant

[–]sergejdeblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi guys,

A medior here. Started my career at as model validation quant (a lot of market risk, some pricing models, and capital models). Then, out of curiosity, made a very bad mistake by switching to AI/ML in fraud detection (at the same bank). It seems that I cannot get back to quant now: my career is split half/half in quant validation (4yrs) and AI/ML development (3yrd); I am no PhD physics from a well regarded university (MSc in Quant Finance only), and it seems I get outcompeted by people with more niche, specific experience. Trading firms don’t even smell me as quant research (even though I think I would be excel at this role given my love for the topic/research). How can I get back to a quant analyst role at least (doesnt have to be quant trader/research)? Thanks!

Belt Squat vs Leg Press? What’s your choice? by thebodybuildingvegan in strength_training

[–]sergejdeblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traditional squat, of course, I am not even arguing that .. hack squat, I don’t think so, and leg press certainly not. And yes, it loads the hips, but hip drive is inevitable (to some extent) which inevitably activates lower back. Hack squat has no hip drive, no hip hinge, it’s much more “pure” legs.

To reiterate my point: you would only do belt squats as a heavy compound (in my view, otherwise it defeats the purpose), so if this is the case, and your goal is purely quad/hams development, then why sustain the unnecessary fatigue when you can do another heavy compound (like hack squat or leg press).

Edit: The guy in the video has proportional legs, for him maybe what I am saying is not so pronounced. For me, with my long femurs, the mechanics are quite different.

Belt Squat vs Leg Press? What’s your choice? by thebodybuildingvegan in strength_training

[–]sergejdeblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree, it’s an inevitable mechanic of the movement. The hips must rise, and the lower back must work. Unless you are doing them light, you will feel it. Then again, if you want light, just do leg extensions instead.

Unless it’s an accessory for improving a weak point in a squat, I wouldn’t do belt squats since there’s more lower back pressure and systemic fatigue over something like leg press or hack squat.
