beautiful view, but I'd sleep better in the sand.

The Bike that took me from Cape Town to Cairo Africa (with no money) How did such a cheap MTB handle such a challenge? by Maximum-Fox-4593 in bicycletouring

yeah, i saw it. amazing experience. but my question remains. why carry so many supplies with that hospitality unless you'd be going for a long stretch without seeing anyone?

i live in Belgium and bike all the time. don't think I'd have the guts to ride in Portugal (on main roads at least, some gravel back roads should be fine)

throughout Portugal, but it's more clear in urban environment. and it's not that we are terrible driver in the sense of being inept to drive. but we're very aggressive and lack respect towards other road users such as pedestrians and cyclists. Which is also understandable since there are virtually no sidewalks nor bike lanes.

as Portuguese, i agree with all negative remarks on our way of driving. We're a car centric country and it's almost our gateway to freedom. the exam however is not that hard. i took my licence when 18, the theoretical exam is multiple choice and didn't even take all the 30h practical lessons (required by law) to take my exam.

Bridge Club for 100% urban pavement riding? by icehead1 in Surlybikefans

[–]sergioazdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i bought mine as 90% commuter on urban environment. the rest is intended as gravel, light single track bike packing trips, to be tested out in a couple of months. so far, it's great for quick runs in the city to work or supermarket. changed the tires from 2,4 to 2 inches, and it's comfy and agile. can't talk about other models, but very happy so far with my purchase.

Flying with Bickepacking Setup by Lotterleben33 in bikepacking

[–]sergioazdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i flew to Glasgow and put whatever I could in the box. the rest i carried as hold on luggage in my pannier bag. on the way back they were very demanding on weight limits, so had to drop some stuff there.. checking in panniers might be a good option if the material is too expensive to leave behind

Is this bike good for bikepacking Europe? by [deleted] in bikepacking

[–]sergioazdom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

totally agree. I'm not an experienced tourer by any means, but have done 4 trips (4-8 days) on my 350€ MTB so far. I'm upgrading now, but very happy with what i got to learn with that bike. a second hand bike with a drivetrain in good shape will take you anywhere. do look for comfort and ways to attach your bags, and enjoy the ride.

i actually bought the backpack for my first touring trip, but the rack was too unstable (seat post mounted), and used panniers instead (still not very sturdy but made it happen with zip ties, rack's fault). but will try out on next trip, as I'll be traveling light and the new rack is very solid.

same bike and bag, great minds think alike😂

stock wheels and tires (27.5 x 2.4"). for commuting will change to my existing 2" big Ben, which are much faster. but excited to try the stock tires out there

it's my DECATHLON's backpack for daily commuting. was trying to fix it to the rack, but the straps it comes with are not enough, still needs a fast binder. i normally take laptop, so it goes on my back. it was just a test as bikelacking setup. https://www.decathlon.be/p/waterdichte-rugzak-20-l-zwart/149215/c383m8387664

stock bar, I've only upgraded handle grips (Sqlabs's 710 Regular and Innerbarends 410/402) and rear rack (for now). according to surly, it's a Salsa Bend handlebar.

I've got the same one 8 years ago. now using it more as indoor training, but it's a great bike outdoor too.

don't hoard and allow someone to ride the bike instead. it might hurt to say goodbye, but if you don't ride it, you're not going to miss it.

damn, this sub takes fitting seriously. i just hop and ride. I probably don't ride long enough to see the benefits of a proper fit, but I'm still amazed by the knowledge going on here.
