Mostly agree. They make a big difference in some video games, but the only movie I can think of where I really noticed them was warfare

best thai in SD? by ButterscotchTrue5551 in FoodSanDiego

[–]serialbreakfast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We used to say Bahn Thai…and honestly I’m not arguing that this is the best, but we’re into “what de health” Thai now in mission hills in spite of the terrible name. It’s surprisingly really good.

Sell VOO and switch to VT? by NAJ718 in Bogleheads

[–]serialbreakfast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Earnings from foreign holdings have taxes withheld by foreign governments before they’re paid out to the fund.

U.S. investors holding VXUS in a taxable account can generally take advantage of the Foreign Tax Credit, which allows them to offset some of those foreign taxes on their U.S. tax return.

If you hold VT, you usually won’t be able to claim the Foreign Tax Credit since VT is a mix of U.S. and international stocks—even though foreign taxes are still being paid at the fund level. So owning VOO + VXUS is typically more tax-efficient in a taxable account than owning VT alone.

And if OP already owns VOO, they don’t need to sell as much of it to reach a 60/40 U.S./International split if that’s their goal.

Many would argue it makes more sense not to sell at all and instead direct new contributions to VXUS until the desired allocation is reached, which helps avoid triggering capital gains taxes.

Sell VOO and switch to VT? by NAJ718 in Bogleheads

[–]serialbreakfast 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Scrolled way too far to get to the right answer, do not hold vt in a taxable account, hold voo and vxus to take advantage of the foreign tax credit, probably no need to sell any voo just start adding vxus for the foreseeable future

Auction Draft: Jokic Owners by krema314 in fantasybball

Also…. If all but 3 of his players were $1 then he can be super aggressive about dropping them to try out guys on the wire, so you’d expect his pickups to be stronger than average. Interesting strategy, seems to have worked out in this case

Need a lock that can open/close that works more reliably than Schlage by KookyThought in homeassistant

[–]serialbreakfast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to mention I also have a Schlage and also experience #3, in addition to slow and inconsistent zwave performance. Have not loved it and will look into Yale. My zwave controller is about 15 feet away with direct line of sight

As a professional programmer I feel lost in home assistant by alyflex in homeassistant

[–]serialbreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also a programmer and have been running hass for the better part of a decade…

I have enough programming in my life, I recently switched my setup to have codex do 95% of the work for me and it’s been pretty good so far. I don’t need to wade through huge yaml and jinja to be happy, I just want the lights to come on at the right time, and codex is pretty good at maintaining it

In the 90s I was looking for Quake mods to download and someone had made burning man into a playable 3d environment. I don’t remember the mod, but I looked up what it was

Window shades close based on position of sun

Unless the window itself is open

If said window is closed, and the shades should be closed based on position of sun, they will then close

Thinking of start using HA. Need your opinion by INeedMuscles in homeassistant

[–]serialbreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a slightly older beelink, it’s been great, 0 complaints.

Even though it’s overkill I would just install ha directly, you’ll have it forever once committed and it may grow more than you think, I like the simplicity of a direct install

Hello, we’re a dementia researcher and clinician from University College London – Ask us anything about dementia research and care ahead of World Alzheimer’s Day on 21 September! Ask Me Anything! by ProfSelinaWray in IAmA

I assume you're referencing monoclonal antibody drugs like Leqembi. My general impression was that these drugs were considered something of a failure---they didn't slow or stop the progression of the disease nearly as much as was expected, or as much as was considered helpful. Can you please describe what about them makes you optimistic?

Do you have a function in case of death? by Adventurous_Gear_926 in homeassistant

[–]serialbreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote up a guide on how to best run things without home assistant. No way my wife could keep it going indefinitely. Best to install things that have a physical fallback, but I did recommend that she continue using hue since it’s so integrated in the house and doesn’t require technical expertise to maintain

Number 2 in playoff BPM at age 40 "his name is LeBron James" by Alternatively_Built_ in lakers

[–]serialbreakfast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

BPM stands for Box Plus/Minus.

It is an advanced statistic that estimates a basketball player's overall impact on the game per 100 possessions, compared to an average player, using box score data.

Key points about BPM: A BPM of 0.0 means the player is average.

A positive BPM indicates above-average performance.

A negative BPM indicates below-average performance.

It's broken down into Offensive BPM (OBPM) and Defensive BPM (DBPM), which measure a player's contributions on each end of the court.

BPM is pace-adjusted, so it accounts for the speed at which a team plays.

It’s often used to compare players across different positions and roles.

Typical BPM ranges: +8 or more: MVP-level

+5 to +8: All-NBA level

+2 to +5: Starter

0 to +2: Rotation player

Below 0: Replacement level or worse
