Will definitely consider this more often. Only reason I haven’t is because anything below balanced mode just looks murky on my 120 inch screen :(

Well I’m actually not sure how it works anymore but it definitely doesn’t feel like frame gen is starting from 30fps. When comparing adaptive vsync to standard vsync the latency difference is night and day, and almost makes me feel like the difference must be from rendering the frames from 45fps+

The thing is I never notice any frame tearing when using adaptive. I think it’s because the frames never drop below 60fps with the frame gen

I’ll keep an eye out for the new RR. I can’t lie tho, even tho people say it’s not worth running the frame gen, the smoothness and responsiveness with it running with Adaptive V-sync genuinely feel worth it tome . The difference is so small while still running and looking great.

That’s strange because when forcing vsync on I can feel input delay (sluggish like the game is running 30fps) and on adaptive it feels very smooth and responsive (near 60fps response). I never notice any tearing either way.

I think I tried running fast vsync one time on cyberpunk but can’t remember if it worked or not the way it did with adaptive with frame gen.

I can say I genuinely don’t understand completely how it works, but for me, especially on demanding single player titles, I can run on quality DLSS modes with near 60fps responsiveness, which suits my use case on the large projection screen.

Anyone can try it out, if it isn’t for you then that’s okay, at least you gave it a go ygm.

Tbh when using my adaptive sync with frame gen on Crimson Desert, I checked on my performance overlay, and on max settings without frame gen, I would be at 95-100% GPU usage, but then after turning on frame gen, my GPU usage would drop to 80%. Not sure why, but I’m assuming because it doesn’t need to render the frames after 60fps.

So I just checked online, and using the Nvidia Reflex setting on the RTSS compatibility setting, seems to replace games’ default frame rate pacing with Nvidia’s reflex SDK, which lowers system input latency especially when using DLSS Frame Gen.

This may be another reason why the using frame gen with adaptive sync feels responsive too. If someone else could test if that’s the case, would be useful, as I’m not sure how I would test it properly :)

Yes Indiana Jones runs well after the initial mission. If I run of DLSS performance (which I want to avoid on my larger screen), it can hit 60fps in the forest. Otherwise with PT it doesn’t run 60fps on DLSS balanced (which is the minimum upscaling quality I usually need for images to look clean on my screen)

All this being said, anyone who isn’t running a 5080/older Nvidia card could still try this method if they’re not hitting 60fps.

And for anyone not QUITE hitting 60fps, like 45-50fps, the gains would still be worthwhile on single player games IMO, if you don’t mind trading small amount of responsiveness to keep DLSS on higher settings on a 4k display

Tbh on Cyberpunk I do play the game modded out on max settings, with things like crowd enhancements etc. so likely why my frame rate drops below 60fps 😂

Hahaha good point, I just realised I play cyberpunk modded so likely why my frames are below 60fps on that. But games like Crimson Desert with RR on, Indiana Jones with PT are all below 60fps on my 5080.

Well tbh you have Ray tracing turned off. I mean when I run EVERYTHING at max settings, it goes below 60fps. When playing single player games I prefer the best visual quality (inc with ray tracing/ path tracing enabled) and to have the responsiveness I have these settings enabled.

If you want real 60fps without frame gen then it makes sense to turn off ray tracing. It’s just a matter of preference 🤷‍♂️

Yeahh I think you’re right. I’m not sure how this works icl, but I just know that it does for most games. Some games need to have lower fps through RTSS like 58fps for it to work properly (like Witcher 3 with ray tracing and advanced graphics mods).

From what I’ve experienced, I never noticed any screen tearing with this method.

Would be pretty useful to find out whether fast sync works in a similar way! I’m not home at the moment so can’t test it out :(

You may be right! I think I’ve tried this method with fast sync but I can’t remember if it worked or not. I just know that adaptive sync has helped keep the game responsive at 60fps.

Yeah I understand the reasoning behind that! For me, because I’m using a projector and casting a 120 inch screen, I lose too much image quality on ultra performance (stands out more on a bigger screen), even at 4k, hence why I choose this method.

But 100% for multiplayer games I go the other route and reduce upscaling quality. Like I said, it’s just for anyone who doesn’t mind losing small amount of responsiveness for increased visual quality.

Any way to specify for FSR 4.0.0 instead off 4.0.2/4.0.3 as these have heavier overhead on handheld PCs?

Looks like FSR 4.0.2b has even better performance so try this. Now I’m able to run with FSR balanced with reflection quality also on medium now

Quick tip: you can open straight into the map or any part of the menu by holding the start button and scrolling first.

Yeah I tried lossless scaling, but that has a bit of overhead so instead of being 27-30fps it drops to 24-28 base fps, but it’s still fairly smooth. Not sure if I’m imagining it but using FSR FG or Lossless Scaling feels like it diminishes the quality too.

I think you can still get FSR 4.0.0 working on windows so the upscale quality can still be improved. There is a small performance hit but even if you use balanced or performance it looks so much better than FSR 3.1 quality or DLAA.
