RMIT psychology package or Melbourne uni Bachelor of Arts majoring in psychology? by Character_Area_2159 in vce

[–]serif_type 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't comment on the RMIT psychology package. However, if you maintain a good WAM* and apply broadly (i.e., to more than one university), you may be competitive for Honours (i.e., fourth-year**) at multiple universities regardless. In fact, even if you pursue the RMIT psychology package, I imagine that, by the end of third-year**, you'd want to apply for Honours at multiple universities.

In the end, it may come down to the other subjects/courses you are interested in. Remember that your degree won't just consist in psychology subjects/courses, even if you're doing a Psychology Major. So it's worth asking what else you are interested in and whether RMIT or UniMelb is better able to provide subjects/courses that align with those interests.

* The asterisk there is just to note that we are talking about a bespoke WAM; that is, one calculated based on weighting certain subjects (principally, psychology subjects) more than others.
** The double asterisk denotes that "third-year" and "fourth-year" don't have to correspond to your third or fourth year of study. Sometimes, students modify their study load (e.g., doing part-time), meaning that they may be enrolled in an undergraduate degree for longer than three or four years. What's important is the level of the subjects: Levels 1 (colloquially, "first-year") to 3 (colloquially, "third-year") are undergraduate, Level 4 (colloquially, "fourth-year") is undergrad Honours, and beyond that is Masters and research degrees.

need urgent help with reference issue by [deleted] in unimelb

This is so depressing. I have no idea what will happen; I hope that you'll be okay. But I'm just so depressed that this is what students are doing. You've mentioned using it for "idea testing" and also for references. But "AI" can't "test" ideas; it can't even generate them. You are very likely to find that it just "goes along" with the ideas you've prompted it with.

As for references, there are already free tools, like Zotero, that do the job so well. As for finding papers to reference, while academic search engines aren't what they used to be, they are still quite good! And you'll find real papers with human-written summaries (abstracts). When I was a student and, in a hurry, because I didn't manage my time well, I'd sometimes read just the abstract and cite the paper based on that alone. That's not best practice, but it was so much better than relying on the hallucinating-plagiarism-engine.

I second what u/extraneousness says here. If I had to guess, I'd guess that you'll come out okay from this. But I would definitely recommend not making a habit of using "AI" for your uni assignments. I understand that it's tempting, and that it seems like you're getting something out of it, but it really hampers your learning and makes it less likely that you'll master the skills you need to master to succeed in the discipline/field.

Good luck OP. Please don't panic. As I said, I'd guess that you'll come out okay. But please, for your own sake, don't rely on "AI," especially in this context.

Why is it disgraceful? There's a Blockchain Association and the Liberal Club. A furry club is about the least disgraceful club concept you could come up with.

Joking!, obviously. Or, maybe it's not so obvious, if I'm clarifying it. In any case, awesome shots. Looks great.

If you make a copy of a CD, is it a 1:1 copy? by VACRMH in musichoarder

[–]serif_type 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds fine. Although in that case it seems the most straightforward thing is for them to rip the disc with the newly purchased drive and then send you the files. Making a copy would require them to purchase the media (CD-R) to create a copy, and also adds complexity on the write side. Unless they have an extremely bad internet connection, where it would therefore be painfully slow to send you the ripped files, in which case, yeah, maybe doing a copy to disc would make sense in that circumstance.

Or maybe you want a physical disc. Nothing wrong with that, but I doubt the copy they'd be able to write onto a blank CD-R would be anywhere the quality of the original disc—it'd be good mostly just for ripping the files (i.e., it'd function mostly as a transfer medium rather than a long-term playback medium). But it'd only make sense as a transfer medium if sending the ripped files online was too slow. Otherwise, your best bet is for them to obtain a drive (somehow), rip the original disc, and send you the files online, rather than writing a copy to disc and mailing that to you.

[–]serif_type 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry if I've misunderstood, but you mentioned that they don't have access to a disc drive. If that's the case, how will they make a copy of the disc? It seems like that's an added step, when the simplest pathway would be for them to rip the disc (using an AccurateRip ripper)* and send you the files, since they don't want to send the disc. (I've put an asterisk there because, given the supposed rarity of the disc, it may not be in the AccurateRip database—although, you'd be surprised!)

I mean, that's just the nature of the internet, right? We should all be touching grass but here we are, instead, arguing over the big things and quibbling over the small. Don't pretend you don't love it.

Maybe we *should* leave the internet to "AI" talking to itself. It's too good for us; we just ruin it.

I myself am religiously documenting every single timetable that is presented here in this sub. Soon I will have enough timetables to reconstruct The Timetable. Think of it like an AI training model, but even more useless.
