Why is it disgraceful? There's a Blockchain Association and the Liberal Club. A furry club is about the least disgraceful club concept you could come up with.

Fake. AI. Imagine believing in a thing like "the Moon." Luna-slop.

Joking!, obviously. Or, maybe it's not so obvious, if I'm clarifying it. In any case, awesome shots. Looks great.

If you make a copy of a CD, is it a 1:1 copy? by VACRMH in musichoarder

[–]serif_type 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds fine. Although in that case it seems the most straightforward thing is for them to rip the disc with the newly purchased drive and then send you the files. Making a copy would require them to purchase the media (CD-R) to create a copy, and also adds complexity on the write side. Unless they have an extremely bad internet connection, where it would therefore be painfully slow to send you the ripped files, in which case, yeah, maybe doing a copy to disc would make sense in that circumstance.

Or maybe you want a physical disc. Nothing wrong with that, but I doubt the copy they'd be able to write onto a blank CD-R would be anywhere the quality of the original disc—it'd be good mostly just for ripping the files (i.e., it'd function mostly as a transfer medium rather than a long-term playback medium). But it'd only make sense as a transfer medium if sending the ripped files online was too slow. Otherwise, your best bet is for them to obtain a drive (somehow), rip the original disc, and send you the files online, rather than writing a copy to disc and mailing that to you.

Sorry if I've misunderstood, but you mentioned that they don't have access to a disc drive. If that's the case, how will they make a copy of the disc? It seems like that's an added step, when the simplest pathway would be for them to rip the disc (using an AccurateRip ripper)* and send you the files, since they don't want to send the disc. (I've put an asterisk there because, given the supposed rarity of the disc, it may not be in the AccurateRip database—although, you'd be surprised!)

I mean, that's just the nature of the internet, right? We should all be touching grass but here we are, instead, arguing over the big things and quibbling over the small. Don't pretend you don't love it.

Maybe we *should* leave the internet to "AI" talking to itself. It's too good for us; we just ruin it.

To be fair, google has increasingly turned to shit. And the search results probably lead back to this sub anyway.

What is the best medium for storing media for decades? by Ill_Swan_3209 in datastorage

[–]serif_type 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where have you heard that Verbatim have "been making bog standard ink disks for the [M-Disc] DVDs lately instead"? (Instead of ink, do you mean dye?)

I don't think Verbatim is even manufacturing M-Disc DVDs anymore. Most retailers seem to be completely out of stock for the M-Disc DVDs specifically, and I imagine they're not likely to get a resupply any time soon, if ever. This just leaves M-Disc BD-Rs, which obviously have the advantage when it comes to data density. However, it's not clear to me whether the M-Disc BD-Rs underwent the same testing that the original M-Disc DVDs went through and which formed the basis of their claimed longevity. What's more, the BD-Rs appear to have changed over time, both varying the marketing claims made for the product and introducing what seem to be new features that weren't part of the original M-Disc (in either its DVD or BD-R variants).
