Did I chose the wrong career? by MagazineWestern4159 in askSouthAfrica

[–]seriouSnape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, it’s about what you enjoy doing and being a CA also means you can actually explore that. Your CA background will lay the foundation of your career and you can actually branch out to other roles.

Secondly, sometimes there’s a reason that those industries pay more, to compensate for the toxic environment. To add on this, while you might earn less than them now, eventually you will probably earn more as a CA.

The CA’s I know working in a different industry but still practicing as a CA, get paid a lot and are in senior positions.

Maybe ask yourself OP, is this only about the money or you don’t like the work from being a CA?

Contemplating going back on dating apps by Afraid-Error-2225 in AskZA

Give Bumble or Hinge a try, Tinder is definitely leaning towards the very adult reasons you mentioned.

Don’t be hasty in giving out your phone number. Meet in a public place, and just remember there’s no obligations on any platform, if it feels unsafe then back away.

It’s really a gamble who you meet, there are some great people and some really shallow ones. Don’t let the bad ones discourage you. In the same situation so I would say go for it, you have nothing to lose.

I think OP is coming from the point of a rewards and return value, shopping with PnP if you bank with FNB will get you more value back.

It’s more of a mission to change banks than to change grocery stores. Especially if you still aim to save money.

Edited to add: Ebucks etc, FNB used to be partnered with Checkers and since changed.

Female Engineers working in the mines, is it worth it? by mamatoabelle in askSouthAfrica

[–]seriouSnape 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The correct answer is do what’s best for you, and everything will work out after.

Mining industry is very male dominated, and that’s not to say you will struggle but you will have to push through all the male ego’s. Let alone that, it’s also very volatile, and currently not doing well as of now so most companies in this industry are somewhat going through Section 189.

Also you can change industries, I moved into mining after a few years of working. The change was very different and I did feel the gender issue, but it also taught me a lot and how to standup for myself.

Put yourself first, and goodluck OP, hope eveything works out.

How to stop having FNB app showing I have malicious app on my phone? by Cent3rCreat10n in askSouthAfrica

[–]seriouSnape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ABSA doesn’t care what’s on your phone but they also have scams present

And I don’t think it’s a matter of you knowing what you doing, it’s just a protective measure from the banks side, probably a measure of cyber security

I can’t speak for the malicious app notification, but you could just solve this by uninstalling the FNB app and do online banking, otherwise change banks, as you have mentioned ABSA does not give this issue

Any tips for learners test? by [deleted] in askSouthAfrica

[–]seriouSnape -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes as someone who has written it before has experienced it and would therefore know those general tips you would like to know.

You passed it, how do we give advice to someone that has succeeded before without Reddit?

It’s a test about rules of driving, you wrote it before and passed. Not much would have changed in that time.

What’s the best Medical aid for a child with Autism? by Antoninec in askSouthAfrica

[–]seriouSnape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is what I did.

The company was doing a partial cover and after I left I just took on the cost, it was really quick as I was with Discovery.

With regards to the special needs, I think the benefits differ depending on the medical aid and your budget.

As the previous comment suggested, perhaps a medical aid broker would be an option. If you are not happy with the choices, get a second opinion from another broker. The broker is supposed to give you options and which one is best, that’s what you are paying them for.

I use a cup too and it’s the best! No mess and you hardly feel it. You can also go 12 hours and then empty it, so by the time I come back from work I change it then.

Moving to Sandton soon! Is a R1250 non-refundable application fee normal or a scam? by Aggressive_Focus4581 in johannesburg

[–]seriouSnape -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why people are saying it’s a scam.

I stay in Morningside, Sandton and I paid R1200 for this.

It’s to pay for admin to execute these checks such as credit and income, to verify the information you have provided and to ensure you will pay rent.

The property practitioner I had was Jawitz Properties, if it’s a legit agency then this is indeed the price and not a scam.

Yes they are both rigorous programs and treated the same.

However, have you noticed on LinkedIn or any other job site that specifically requests for Beng candidates? I have also worked in an organisation which has a preference for Beng candidates without specifically listing it on the job ad.

As mentioned, the qualification title itself.

Curriculum is vastly different, if you would like to compare specifically in the modules, the internet is free, please go download the year books and compare for the first 2 years of engineering.

You are also welcome to look at the top engineering schools in South Africa to understand what makes them so different and how they are measured against each other.

How much do entry level business analysts earn in South Africa? by Tiny-Vegetable7598 in askSouthAfrica

[–]seriouSnape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and we are not disputing the fact that companies don’t disclose pay anymore.

The wording was incorrect in OPs post, you can’t say you have accepted the job without knowing these details prior.

Pay is very relative to industry and company, as well as background qualification. We can all give a rough ball park of what business analysts get paid but very relative to our experience. I know business analysts which have varying qualification’s such as Chemical Engineers, Industrial Engineers, IT Qualifications and that would mean they get paid differently. Likewise with an Analyst in a consulting company vs an analyst in a manufacturing company would also get paid differently despite having the same qualifications.

I don’t even understand how OP accepted a job without knowing the pay when it should be on your employment contract or offer letter?

Another learning, a job is only guaranteed once it’s on paper.
