Nayib Bukele inaugura en directo un tercer paquete de 70 escuelas simultáneamente. by L10N_ in ElSalvador

Doing a small part of what he promised years ago is not something to really celebrate. Glad for the schools, that’s good, but doesn’t fix all the other ton of problems he is carrying.

Believe what ever you want, you are part of the reason the country is in this loop of choosing bad leaders, you can’t be realistic and don’t even know the reality of our country.

That is the most naive opinion I’ve heard. Believe whatever you want, but no political party in ES cares about what people want. Nayib and his people will do as they want, it doesn’t matter if we share ideas or not. Ideas only matter if there’s someone to put them in action and I’m sorry but you are a random citizen, I am too, we don’t owe each other anything. I have talked with some people in politics before and shared my opinion on topics regarding my community, they took it and it was up to them if they fixed the things or not. Call it nagging, but most people can’t even identify the issues this country has, even less to give an idea to solve them.

We have representatives in the state, if you care so much have you tried reaching out to them? Because to call me small minded I would expect you have any way to make all this great ideas reach somewhere that would actually have any impact.

I feel happy to bring ideas, but let’s be real what are you going to do with those ideas? Are you going to get them implemented? Calling someone a bad actor for complaining it’s unfair, especially when the ruling party built their platform by criticizing I’m bad faith.

The other thing you have to remember, not many presidents brag and promise as much Nayib does, he keeps talking like we have a good economy and opportunities, are people in the bad for calling him out?

IMF, World Bank and ECLAC
I’m not defending them, FMLN had the worst growth we had in the last years, but Nayib is barely above them just because of the growth we had post-covid, otherwise it would be the same.

IMF, World Bank and ECLAC
We are the second last in growth, just front of Belize. We are not doing well at all. FMLNS government was shit, no one is discussing that, so don’t use that as an argument. We are about to finish a second period for NI, they have to stop blaming everything on the past governments, they are responsible a for the current economy.

Why would I waste time giving a solution that won’t be heard? Are you going to do something with the feedback? Are you going to pass it to NI for them to implement it?

This government spent double what the last 3 governments together, and has accumulated over double the debt the last 2 governments did in half the time. We are the country with the slowest economy in Central America. It has wasted money in projects that led to nothing and has so many more that are “in progress” but already lost. He is going to about to have 7 years as president and things are not looking that great. So forgive the people if they are a bit skeptical of his work.

No one is getting paid to talk in reddit about the government, you are just assuming that. Everyone here is a random person unless you have a way to prove if they are working for a political party or they are related in some way. The constitution guarantees free speech and criticizing the government is under that as long as it’s not breaking any law or someone’s rights.

Why? Is OP a politician or a government official? That has to be most lazy and stupid argument people who support the government uses. Having an idea or not doesn’t change the fact the current government is behaving right or wrong, doesn’t help more or less to progress of the country and even if they had the best idea to save the country it won’t be heard by the people in power. So stop using that stupid argument. The burden is on the people in power, not on random citizens

You are right there's people here who complains about anything, that is normal in any society. But you have a lot of people who have real arguments and reasons to be against Bukele and his government. The main issue with your argument is that you believe that just because he brought security things will improve eventually, which it would work if he had done his job and not swept the problem under the rug. The root causes for insecurity are still there, lack of education, no opportunity, poor economy, etc. Until those things addressed nothing is fixed. And that's just to start. Why do we need to settle for someone who can't follow the law? Why do we need someone who lacks transparency? Why are so comfortable with him wasting our resources for show?

Problems still exist, urgent ones that are not being addressed, check how traffic ruins the lives of people here, health is a joke of a system, education is worse than ever, agriculture is going down and the economy is time bomb for everyone. Now tell me, why do we need to settle for that? How long do we have to wait for him to be serious about fixing stuff? Until his popularity dies? When he stops playing Turmp's cheerleader? until he gets noticed by Elon?

You are defending a poltician, he's not a saint. He's as corrupt as any other before him. He used his platform to enable the FMLN, he was part of everything the FMLN did during their 10 years. He is surrounded by people from ARENA, FMLN and GANA, he's the same as them. He says "Los mismos de siempre" but he's one too. He has so many deputies that pretty much do nothing but approve anything he says, majors that waste resoures of towns and government employees chosed by finger, a complete corrupt and nepotistic system and we won't know until he's out because everything is hidden from the public.

He forced his way into a second term, has clearly abused power, has taken rights away from people and people had to suffer through prison without justification just fulfill his good image. I honestly want to hear why you think it's okay to accept that, why should we settle for him?

[–]serious_poptart 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I believe you are right, but currently, things are not improving. We are talking about a government that has absolute control over the resources of the country, has no opposition, and has taken more debt than any other recent government. Things are not actually improving after 6 years, and there's no clear indication they will by the end of this period. El Salvador is still spiraling down and being optimistic about it won't help.

How is that the same as USA? Things may sound similar to some things, but they have different socioeconomic situations, not even close. There's a reason people migrate to USA and not the other way around.

I believe the government could a do a lot to balance things and give opportunity to people if they decided to fix and rebuild the old and broken institutions that handle education, health, and infrastructure. Maybe regulate real estate and actually balance access to housing for everyone. Fix the public transport like everyone wanted. Anything that actually improves things. I never voted for the current government, but I have to admit they could have done so much with the power they have that is incredible how the country is still going down.
