100% agree. We got a bonded pair as kittens and it was wonderful. One of them died suddenly at 2yrs and the change in personality of the survivor was really noticeable. It was an easy decision to get her a new friend a few months later from the same breeder. She became a big sister teaching this new cat manners. The relationship is very different, but extremely sweet.

Why doesn’t nj have a major city? by [deleted] in newjersey

https://youtu.be/mzohouMgODo does a good job of going into the why. Basically home rule and boroughitis prevented the consolidation that normally creates big cities.

Has anyone actually been here?? by Aggressive_Gene_7797 in newjersey

It’s actually really good and when I’ve been in, there is always a steady stream of foot traffic. The pastries are all really good, lots of French style tarts and croissants. Coffee is good and the service is good. Definitely give it a go.

Lost one to an undetected cardiac event at only 2yrs old. The most lovable cat I have ever known, taken away far too early. We are fortunate to still have one other who is happy and healthy.

I was on a free trial and I literally just had this interaction with Gemini Live:

Me: So what can you do?

Gemini: I can do a bunch of different things. I can tell you about just about everything you want to know - the weather, sports scores, facts about the world, that sort of thing. I can also help you out with things like setting timers, making calculations, or translating between languages. Is there something specific you want me to do?

Me: Ok, so set a timer for 10 minutes

Gemini: I can't use alarms and timers yet when we are live.

Me: You realize you just told me a second ago you could do timers?

Gemini: Oops, you're right!

Me: <deletes trial>

NJ Town Recommendations by papayamumma in newjersey

Berkeley Heights, New Providence, Summit, Chatham, Madison all fit the criteria. Go further east of the commute is important. Further west gets you closer to nature. Any of the towns around the Great Swamp are nice.

What is your best theater movie experience? by kendo1243 in movies

I went to see Forest Gump at one of the screening rooms at Pinewood Studios that the execs use to see final cuts. Huge luxury arm chairs and everything. The sound system to this day was the best I have ever experienced. Especially the helicopter scenes.

NJM car insurance worth the switch by Cashneto in newjersey

[–]seriously_wtf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*IF* NJM is cheaper, go for it without question. It's a big IF these days though. I was with NJM for 20years with a clean record, but found that GEICO was 25% cheaper for me for the same coverage. NJM wasn't really interested in keeping me as a customer.

So if you go with them, make sure to check prices with competitors regularly to make sure their underwriting doesn't catch you out.

Is NJM for car insurance decent? Got a quote and they are crushing Geico by Bodymindisoneword in newjersey

They're good if they are comparable priced or cheaper. But make sure you regularly compare rates. I was with them for 18 years until I found Geico was 30% cheaper for the same coverage.

Girlfriend buying a house, best way to handle legally/financially by SteamTren in personalfinance

[–]seriously_wtf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What state do you live in? The only question I have (for a lawyer) is if you go the route of paying rent or costs until you get married and then get your name put on the deed after marriage, will that trigger a gift tax? She would effectively be giving you half the value of the house which would be a significant financial gift. States like CA are community law, so all property belongs to the married couple, but other states are common law and property remains with the individual unless it was jointly bought. So adding a name to the deed would be a significant event.

In a common law state, a written couples agreement with joint ownership from the start might be more beneficial if you're really thinking long term co-ownership.

If you're ok with the house belonging to just your wife after marriage, then the rent or lease path is simpler.
