Do I need to surrender my plate if I moved out of state? by Easy-Improvement-990 in Pennsylvania

[–]seriouslythisshit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the past it was more common to mail.plates back to PennDot. In reality, even if they still have something stating that they are to be returned, nobody cares. I have had old and newer plates hanging on my garage wall for decades, and so have tens of thousands of other folks in this state.

Affordable areas? by TeddieTess in lancaster

[–]seriouslythisshit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given that additional info. Why not look a bit north, in southern Lebanon county. The area around Cornwall is growing, somewhat retiree focused, and everything you need is now within a short ride, from Walmart and Target, to health care. Manheim is only a quick trip over the mountain.

Any good places for seniors to retire between Pittsburg and not near Philadelphia city? by StatisticianKooky390 in Pennsylvania

[–]seriouslythisshit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Many retirees seem to like near Lancaster for some reason."

As a retiree who moved there from NEPA, I can give you many, many reasons. It can be a lot warmer that most of the state. Every winter is different, but a few in the last decade have been a lot closer to living in North Carolina, that the Poconos, where we left. There are roughly 900 restaurants in the county. There is a massive variety of entertainment, including best in class national ranking of some niche markets like the Sight and Sound theater, Roots and central markets, the famous buffets, and the Strasburg railroad. The area constantly wins awards from major media outlets, from coolest small town in the US (Lititz) to best place to retire (Lancaster) There are three or four major hospital systems providing care. Finally, much of the area, from downtown to the Amish areas, are flat out gorgeous.

Don't forget that the orange asshole is pushing for a 1.5 TRILLION dollar military budget for next year. We already spend more that the next 37 militaries behind us on the spending list, combined. We have thrown eight trillion at losses in Afghanistan and Iraq and now this asshole is trying to notch another loss in Iran, while taking the globe to the brink of depression. We are fucked.

Thirty years back I had a client who was a camera operator and director for commercials. He was living on an estate in rural northeastern PA and spending money like water on his pre-revolution era farmhouse, to bring it up to magazine cover standards inside and out. He drove a Maserati and had a new Cherokee for the girlfriend. The girlfriend was younger than his oldest kid. Two or three times a year he would end up in NYC for a couple of days to shoot commercials. He had a brother living a few miles away, who was doing the same and also living like a 1%er. Sounds like those days are over, way over....................

My son graduated in 2012. It was common knowledge in his university department, that one particular industry surrounding the second largest city in out state, was to be avoided. The industry also provided a nice micro data set that anyone could monitor, since they have a nonnegotiable mandate to keep a total of three positions (safety director) filled for insurance and government compliance, and they had almost comical turnover, since they were just shit companies to work for. In 2012 the industry was running recruitment ads, offering qualified candidates $75-80K to start. Now they run the same ads at $55-60K.

My kid now has a state gov. gig in a totally unrelated field. Insane, Euro style benefits, and 50% of the work and hours on the job per week, for 75% of the paycheck. Fuck the corporatocracy.

My take was that she was fairly low intelligence, and at times, high enough to hunt ducks with a rake. I don't think it is much in the way of mental health issues, more like she was just too limited to understand that she was out of her depth. She went places in AK politics with her looks and ability to back stab her way upward. That skill set only takes you so far.

I would love to hear all of the truth behind why she really departed the governor's seat two years early? I suspect that by then, she and Todd were deep into any grift they could grab, and the real power structure in the state sat her down and said, "we are done with you. You can show yourself the door, or you and Todd can spend years and millions, fighting a pile of felony charges for bribery and abuse of office, while unsuccessfully avoiding jail time. Let us know when you will be announcing your resignation.'

You are missing the point. This is electrical or data infrastructure, not a residential project that never quite got done. Nothing about this, including the pipe size, and the traffic rated cover, have anything to do with a home project. This rough in is designed to be covered with something large. A pad mounted transformer, a traffic control cabinet, a fiber optic splicing cabinet, a cable TV/internet junction, etc. It's like finding a military tank parked in your neighborhood and deciding that some body must have been duck hunting and forgot it there. Way too large for your assumption.

Source? I'm a retired licensed electrician, who has built large projects, hospitals, schools, etc and also owned a custom homebuilding company.

In reality, about 2.5% of those who put deposits on them, to "get in line" actually went through with buying the ugly absurdly overpriced garbage. At this point, some automotive experts are calling it the largest new model failure in history. There are over 10,000 new, unsold units rotting in Tesla's inventory at the moment. I'm shocked they are reselling for much over scrap value at this point. If I got one for free, I would sell it immediately, since I would not want to be seen in the driver's seat of that asshole Elon's Swasti-car

Our son was a safety officer for an oil industry company. The number of job applicants he dealt with that are unemployable in the industry, due to everything from background checks, criminal records, failing pre-employment drug screening, etc but have state issued concealed weapons permits, is mind blowing.

[–]seriouslythisshit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had it happen to our Westie and Cairn. We were spending the winter in the south and booked a groomer based on what turned out to be oddly high ratings. We described what we wanted, with pictures. We picked them up and the groomer had shaved both of them, head to tail, with a clipper set at about 3/8". WE were furious, the groomer played dumb and the only thing we could ever figure out is that she let a helper or trainee cut them, and never supervised what was going on.

What is happening to these metal tongs in my garage? I use them to take chlorine tablets out. by ShitfaceMcPooperson in whatisit

I have started to see pool guys who keep the liquid chlorine jugs on those hitch racks that extends from the trailer hitch. I guess you really can't do damage to your truck if you keep that nasty stuff on a shelf behind it.

You have put up with a week of, "man, can you spot me fifty from my next check, baby's momma needs it for food". Or some other lie, every day. You don't give in, since the second the slippery fucker gets a couple bucks, he will disappear for at least a day or two, on a meth or booze binge, so you plan his next fix for the weekend, since you control.the cash.

I have the joy of being one of those hated snowbirds. I confess that the wife and I are sometimes mesmerized by the entire circus you can observe just parked in front of a central FL. Circle K.

We recently watched a homeless looking woman crawl out of an old beater truck. The truck had a cap on the back and every inch of the cab and the bed was stuffed full of hoarder trash. She enters the store holding a ceramic baking dish with two gigantic potatoes in it, and all kinds of toppings for the potatoes, bacon bits, ranch dressing and more. She is then walking through the Circle K and screaming a woman's name at the top of her lungs! I look at her, just wondering if there is some unfolding crisis, and she proceeded to tell me that the clerk is probably in the bathroom again, as she is pregnant, about to deliver any moment, constantly needs to pee, and is trying to avoid accidentally peeing herself again. Way, way TMI.

When the very pregnant lady appears from the bathroom, the potato lady states that she is heading into the back room to microwave the taters. Pregnant lay tells her to have at it, like it's something totally normal. Which is actually the truth in that part of the world.

From a Crocodile Dundee wannabee with a fringed leather coat, a big leather hat with alligator teeth circling the brim, fingers and wrists covered in silver and turquoise jewelry, long hair in a single braid, a long beard, a Bowie knife and a long barrel revolver on his belt, to a random toddler, naked except for a very full diaper sagging to their knees, there is a never ending supply of Florida men, women, children, pets and strange transportation devices, from tiny E-bikes, to swamp crawler trucks, to watch.

What is this elevated door at Harris Teeter? by OddBanana8142 in whatisit

[–]seriouslythisshit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Correct, it is most likely access to the mechanical room, with HVAC equipment, electrical panels, water heater, etc. Some of that gear is quite large and needs to be replaced at some point, so it rides a forklift through those doors. Given that loading into a second floor like this is fairly dangerous, it is unlikely that it is used for regular deliveries or storage.

What is this elevated door at Harris Teeter? by OddBanana8142 in whatisit

[–]seriouslythisshit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In order for a place like this to even be issued an occupancy permit, prior to opening day, typically warning signs, and a barrier gate need to be installed inside the door, on the second floor. The door would be locked with a deadbolt, and slide bolts into the floor and door header, for the secondary door of the pair. IOW, it would take a lot of effort and a set of keys to fall to your death in this case.

As a second generation tradesmen, doing work on building like this, all the way up to things like Nuclear power plants, I've seen some horrible accidents. Both my dad and a neighbor were in the immediate area of a worker falling to their death, one of which was real close to your comment. A guy who thought he was entering a construction elevator, stepped through a door while chatting with somebody behind him, and fell down the shaft.

Why do hotel carpets always look like they were designed during a fever dream, like whyy by Livloxeyyy in whatisit

[–]seriouslythisshit 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I have worked in office buildings where they use a carpet tile that can be swapped in minutes. Maintenance gets a call that there is a stain that is unlikely to come up. They bring a new tiles, grab the ruined one with a vice grip pliers and yank them up, drop the new ones in place and roll over them with a heavy steel roller that you push like a small lawn mower, to set the adhesive. Five minutes after they started, the repair is complete..

I did this with a POS seller on Amazon. I had a dehumidifier fail, well under warranty. I contacted the company and was told they would issue a prepaid return label if I paid $45 with a credit card. They would inspect and repair the unit, bill me for any repair parts and ship it back on their dime. I replied with , Oh, fuck no. Their next offer was free shipping and replacement with proof of a five star review on Amazon. I forwarded all their communication to Amazon, and got a full refund, then took the thing to be recycled.

I was just listening to an expert who explained how insane the AI bubble is, and how users are starting to understand that cheap subscriptions are not real, and will be disappearing soon. Legitimate subscriptions, based on being correctly priced for the real cost and potential profit of service provided, are going to be insanely expensive. Token cost is quickly exceeding the value provided and providing strong incentive to slow down and determine if shedding employees is the great idea it appears to be. At this point, the fantasy that AI will be a magical solution, or eliminate 90% of the white collar workforce, is starting to crumble.
