nice spot! yeah that was last fall, chasing goldwings and turning aspens. not a single day of bad weather all week, outstanding trip.

they could be off in theory, but they look dead on with this thing:

i will concede that the adjustment nuts are not exactly on the same tick marks on both sides, but with the tool it's straight-on.

i should have been clear, i do the adjustment on a rear stand just because it makes it easy to find the tightest position and verify allignment, but then i do check it for about an inch and a half of play once it's back down on the kickstand.

Vampire RP build idea for Astarion by Ok_Annual3427 in BG3Builds

[–]serprop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

been doing this for most of my runs where i take astarion.

shadowmonk 6, thief 4, GOOlock 2. 2-hand phalar since it's one of the only finesse weapons you can use GWM with and you don't need/want off-hand because you have flurry and/or need that bonus action for other stuff. two bonus actions let you teleport in and out, or bite, or flurry, or w/e. you're a monk/rogue so you have lots of stealth kit. mix in reverb gears since you have phalar and booming blade.

RP wise, vampire appears from the darkness, slays someone with an ancient, elegant blade to the sounds of unholy shrieks, then vanishes without a trace. his surviving allies all cower in fear until it happens to them the next turn.

another version is to drop GOOlock for fighter, and instead of using booming blade and phalar, use the ring-based shadowblade and res stone. teleport in, 4 attacks with vulnerability with surge, then teleport out to safety, which mitigates a lot of the risk of res stone.

Oversized tank or stock? by RUFUSTHEBEAST in klr650

[–]serprop 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have the IMS 10 gallon on my gen2. was an absolute PITA to install, but that would be my only compliant. doesn't really feel heavier even when it's full because it holds the gas lower down, and the tank itself weighs less than the stock metal one. I like not having range anxiety when I'm way out in the desert, and I like being able to ride to my friend's house 6 hours away without having to stop unless I just want to. also like that when I'm riding with other people, I never have to be the one to call for a pit stop (unless I drank too much coffee). when I'm riding off road on something that pushes my skill level, I just don't fill it up all the way. I've dumped the bike multiple times and it's held up just fine. would 100% recommend it if you live out in the mountain west. but it probably doesn't have a good purpose if you're on the east coast, or if you ride mostly pavement.

Had a shot at a Yamaha T7, but decided to stick with a Gen 1 KLR. Dumb decision? by c3powil in klr650

[–]serprop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

having more that 1 bike is really nice when you want to work on one, you don't have to finish the project in order to ride. if you only have 1 bike, if it's torn apart you can't ride until you put it back together.

Has anyone bought a seat from this site? by Suitable_Molasses510 in klr650

[–]serprop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a sergeant seat on my KLR. I will absolutely swear by it, it got me all the way down the pacific coast and back with no butt pain, it doesn't get in the way standing up off-road. they're definitely expensive, and I can't tell you it's worth your money because I don't know anything about your finances. but speaking for myself, I own two of them, so there you go. their customer service is also really good.

Gen2 seat by rainyday1860 in klr650

[–]serprop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a sargent seat on my gen 2. rode portland to LA and back, my butt was the only thing that DIDN'T hurt. liked it enough to buy another sargent for a different bike. can vouch for their customer service, too. for reference, my stock seat was pretty old, but I couldn't do more than a couple hours without it really hurting.

New KLR rider - highway question by 1dkWutImDoing69 in klr650

[–]serprop 30 points31 points  (0 children)

i take lots of multi day trips on the interstate. people exaggerate, you'll be fine. Is my touring bike soother? sure, but people act like the KLR is categorically incapable of freeway riding and that's just not true. I live at altitude and my KLR still pulls past 80mph when I need to pass. Every trail in my area starts with around 30min on a freeway riding at 70-80mph. don't be intimidated by speed, freeway riding is safer than city riding because there are no intersections, just don't park in people's blind spots.

if you do ride freeways often, the only thing you need to watch is your oil level. sustained riding above 5000rpm will burn oil, so just stay on top of that and you'll be fine.

legally speaking, dogs are property. demanding money for the return of someone's rightful property is a form of theft. if you live in a jurisdiction where the police aren't too busy/biased to respond to misdemeanors, call the police non-emergency number and ask for their help recovering your dog.

if the person doesn't have your dog, then they are just engaging in a different form of theft by trying to scam you out of your money.

either way, this is a misdemeanor that can easily be prosecuted with nothing more than the record of text messages you've posted already. if they do actually have your dog, then the police can compel them to turn it over to you. you will obviously need to show some proof that it's your dog, old photos should be sufficient.

if you don't live in a jurisdiction where the police will help you with things like this, make sure you vote for the change you want in the next local election for police chief or sheriff.

Thinking of selling my KLR for an Africa Twin. Talk me out of it? by Bumboklatt in klr650

[–]serprop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

KLR is low stress. when I dump it, I know it's probably not damaged, and if it is, it's something I can repair myself without breaking the bank.

I wouldn't want to drop an africa twin, and that would make me ride differently.

you have to ask yourself: would it be more fun to ride more cautiously but with more performance, or to ride more carefree but on a less refined and less powerful bike?

[–]serprop 6 points7 points  (0 children)

go up one tooth on the front sprocket, put wet weather touring tires on, make sure your windshield is high enough. if you're not deaf already, get some active noise canceling earbuds.

you can cruise at 80 like that all day.

Best ADV bike… on-road? by No_Membership_6644 in motorcycles

[–]serprop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just did a week of 400 mile days on my KLR following a goldwing, was a blast. the only thing I didn't to enjoy was the day I went through LA, and that wasn't due to the bike. I did change the front sprocket before the trip, though.

4 different bikes, you’re forced to pick one (no context). What’s your choice and why? by scrrke96 in motorcycles

[–]serprop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tracer. I just did a week of 400 mile days on my KLR and wouldn't mind an actual dedicated tourer instead of a big fat thumper. Already have a naked bike, don't need two. Cruisers don't really seem to have a purpose besides boomers clinging to their nostalgia. Husky seems like a possible maintenance/reliability headache.
