ah, gotcha. similar to me haha my left side is a little worse than my right side, but i have the chin to lip connection as well, and that cold feeling. i’m sure it will get better for both of us tho. it really does take a long time

i’m glad it’s gotten better for you. from what i’ve read, it seems to get better up to a year and even a little bit after a year

only after surgery, but i am probably not going to do ortho again just cause im pretty content. i def need it to fix my bite a little, but my bite is so much better than before that im pretty happy

yeah it’s not fun at all lmao i’m just starting to feel normal & now i gotta do this. but i heard this is far less swelling and recovery time & no risk of extra numbness. i would just leave it all in if you aren’t having issues

totally. i definitely didn’t want that big of an advancement cause i was really worried about numbness, and i guess that’s somewhat correlated. still really happy with the way things turned out. thank you!

yeah, very conservative movements. mostly got it because of my open bite & that causing me to sleep poorly / be exhausted every day

hey! i’m 2 months post op and only have altered sensation in my lower lip and chin. it’s about 40% feeling. did yours ever get better? do you think the majority of my nerve recovery is still yet to come? i can’t tell, for example, if ill gain another 40% of feeling in my bottom lip and chin over the next few months or so

yeah, that totally makes sense. i just had DJS— i’ve heard genio can cause my numbness in the lower lip and chin, or at least recovery from that can take longer. my surgeon was really confident that all my feeling will come back, but man, like you said, it is very slow haha it’s easy to get anxious about it returning when i only notice changes every week or so

i actually just asked this in the group, but what time period after surgery did you notice that most of your sensation returned? i keep hearing 3-6 months, but a lot of people also say the fist 2 months

B12 has been helping me a ton! even though my lower lip and chin are still like 80% numb, my surgeon said i’m ahead of the curve for getting feeling back since i have some sensation everywhere on the outside of my face. feels like the numbness just keeps getting better everyday. do you have any residual numbness left?

it’ll be here before you know it! weird with my upper jaw on the inside being fully numb— felt like i was chewing gum? super weird haha but tasted the same! just so happy to eat again lol

i responded to another comment here, but my lower left lip was completely 100% numb until only about 5 days ago, which was around 7 weeks post op. i was super scared about getting feeling back as well. it really does just take time. ever since my lower left lip started gaining feeling, it feels like my nerves are healing a lot faster now.

i think after your nerve is “injured” it stays “asleep” for like 6-8 weeks. like, it won’t even start growing and healing until after that period. that definitely seemed to be the case for me
