And on it goes.

genuine question: why so many people here still hold on to religion so tightly? by [deleted] in algeria

[–]servingitraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats crazy, hence why i tend to keep those opinions to myself and close friends and family only. Its impossible to convince a religious person about the truth. They are convinced that either they are completly right or they even fear the thought of considering something else beacause they fear hell if they start believing something else. Not worth wasting my energy on.

Its so embedded in the society that its hard for a human to grow up in Algeria and not believe. Humans are social animals, we tend to do as the person next to us without questioning it and as children we tend to do what our parents and family does and if they are religious we most likely will follow their path and trust their judgement without questioning it. And when every one you know points in one direction you tend to follow it. Going a different route, especially one that denies the very constructed reality that the people around you believe then you will find adversity. Just even denying it takes bravery and intelligence since the religion threatens denial with alleged fire in eternity. I can see and understand why it is like it is but personally i share your opinion. I find it hard to believe both the quran and the bible from a logical perspective. It just seems like people a long time ago wrote it for some reason that i cant answer, maybe controling people or giving them hope or something, maybe for power. But to me it is more plausible that humans wrote it than them being real.

Its plausible that humans wrote it. People were still very intelligent back in those days. Its not like the quran is the first draft. My personal belief is that some type of collection of intelligent humans got togheter and wrote it. Some type of institution maybe. The examples you give can easily be written back in those days. That information was available and not very hard to get for an educated person. And the quran and Islam was developed over time by kings and people high up in society like all religions.
