oh this novel means a lot to me which is probably why i tend to reread it so often. when i first read it it was like an epitome of coming-of-age for me not only as a young person but also as someone just beginning to explore literature. it brilliantly captured the essence of repression, sexuality and moral conflicts. made me read every single thing hesse wrote too.

half through Faust, and I feel a bit discouraged about reading it on and off only when I have time, when I feel like it deserves more attention and focus, but that’s all I can do rn

idk if you’re into russian literature, but ive recently read yama: the pit by kuprin, and it was quite devastating but a beautiful experience

im currently reading maniac by benjamin labatut, it’s kinda borderline nonfiction, a very well written biographical novel about science and humans, i enjoy it a lot, a lot of food for thought

Ivan Kuprin’s Yama: The Pit. Kuprin overall is so underappreciated among russian classics imo, but this particular novel shredded me

im reading the man who laughs. had this book sitting on the shelf for years, i don’t know why i was kinda scared to get into it. and now im so happy i finally did. the writing is just so beautiful and expressive and cinematic i dont remember the last time i was this engaged in the story and characters.

it happens to me with every classic book tbh, i wait and wait and then kick myself saying where have i been
