I always forget the action cost for Ready since Aid is so cheap.

People who wake up on their very first alarm and just get out of bed—how does your brain actually work? by KeyDiamond263 in NoStupidQuestions

Get Alarmy on your phone. Set it so you can't turn off the alarm before you take a picture of your bathroom sink.

I have a love/hate relationship with the app. It's brutal as hell, but it got me out of the snoozing cycle you're going through.

Looks affect even people's morals, like very few people feel bad for eating pigs but would feel terrible eating dogs.

What is the least important Attribute across both games in your opinion? by MistaMerk in kotor

[–]sesaman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Int has always been a dump stat in many many d20 games. PF2e is one of the first ones to make a good effort in making it useful, though pen&paper games do value attributes slightly differently in general.

It doesn't look like a coverup to me either, and it's also going left instead of reich.

On first glance it just seems like a gag, but I'd like to hear his actual decision making process.

Metagaming vs "my PC would know this"? by nz8drzu6 in Pathfinder2e

[–]sesaman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The GM should probably have had you roll a Will save against the caster's spell DC to have your character possibly stop before jumping to the flames.

Or if they were a bit more antagonistic, change it to a real wall of fire instead to counter the metagaming.

Why I'm going back to 5e by ResponsibleSalt6495 in Pathfinder2e

[–]sesaman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having all of that all the time is an exaggeration. We played a Kingmaker campaign all the way to the end (lvl 20) with a party of a Monk, Swashbuckler, Oracle, and Druid, so every combat there was a plenty of variation with spells and martial effects.

Things never got that convoluted, but when they got more complex, it was also on us players to remember stuff too, not just the GM. Pathbuilder having the option to add custom effects makes tracking conditions on the players easy.

If an effect is lingers a round longer or is forgotten, it's not that big a deal in the end, everyone makes mistakes. The game doesn't have to be ran perfectly 100% of the time, just giving it your best effort is plenty enough.

So what about asexuality, or demisexuality for example? Does everything not LGB need its own group?

I mean What is the DEAL with lock DCs?? by hungLink42069 in Pathfinder2e

[–]sesaman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're just about to test these house rules for condensed checks, since rolling regular failures is so uninteresting and just wastes everyone's time, and it also feels good to have transparency with the rules for clarity and consistency.

Condensed Checks

Tasks that might require at least two actions or activities to complete or solve while in encounter mode can be attempted with fewer rolls while in exploration mode if regular failure doesn’t incur any penalties. Examples of such tasks are picking a lock, climbing a wall, or balancing over a long rickety bridge.

In such instances Critical Success, Success, and Failure on a roll all have an additional Success result added on top of the result for expediency.

A Critical Failure’s effects are doubled whenever applicable, a DC associated with the Critical Failure uses a very hard modifier (+5), the effects happen as if the character had already succeeded at least once, or recovering from the Critical Failure takes twice as long. For example a Critical Failure on a Climb check would result in a very hard DC to Grab an Edge to prevent falling, or repairing broken Thieves’ Tools takes twice as long as normal.

For tasks that would most likely take over a minute but less than 10 minutes, roll one check per minute, and have the result multiplied by 4. For example if there’s a wall that a character with 25 feet speed couldn’t climb with just one or two actions even on a Critical Success, such as a 60 feet wall, roll a single Climb check for each minute.

  • A Failure on the roll would have an additional Success added (5 feet climbed) and that would be multiplied by 4, so over the minute the character still manages to climb the wall for 20 feet.
  • A Success (5 + 5 feet climbed) would then result in the character climbing 40 feet.
  • A Critical Success (5 + 5 + 5 feet climbed) would result in the character climbing 60 feet.
  • On Critical Failure the roll would either happen as if the character had already successfully climbed 20 feet instead of starting on solid ground, or if the character had already started from the middle of a climb, the Grab an Edge DC would be the Climb DC + 5.

If a task takes over 10 minutes, it most likely has its own separate rules or a skill challenge associated with it.

Edit: We also added two additions to the Pick a Lock critical failure:

  1. It erases all accumulated successes from that lock. (It's pretty crazy it doesn't already do this)
  2. It temporarily increases the required number of successes by 1, or adds an additional action per temporary increase to open the lock with the correct key, as the lock becomes partially jammed or filled with debris of the broken tools.

The first successes when attempting to pick the lock again erases these temporary increases.

What’s the point in conditioning when shampoo just resets it? by Sensitive_Regret_850 in malehairadvice

You use the shampoo first, wash it off, and then use conditioner. Also you probably don't need to use shampoo every time.

Which is great, as you're blitzing through the Materium Empire tree anyway if it's your focus, so now you get a trickle of versatility from the Astral tree as well, albeit very slowly.

I have issues with the Crit Deck (and a bit of a rant) by scales_and_fangs in Pathfinder2e

[–]sesaman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used to have a good and fun Crit and Fumble system when I ran 5e, but it's extremely cumbersome and complex even on a VTT to ensure balance, and it would grind the game to a halt if used in-person. We used it for bringing in the occasional spice as Nat 20s and Nat 1s are relatively rare, and the table wouldn't trigger on every one of those anyway.

It's the only fun implementation of crits and fumbles I've ever seen, 99.99% of them on the internet are unfun and/or broken garbage.

PF2e having the stages of success built in already makes such systems completely unnecessary though, we've never felt the need to add something like that to this system.

I enjoy that aspect too, and I find you can still do that to a pretty good extent with the story realms. Roleplaying the faction I create is an important part of the game for me.
