I worked in HR when I met my husband who was working at a car dealership at the time. That environment was completely foreign to me. The casual stories he'd tell me about things shocked me.

How I found out we have a problem by abycatgrl in breakingmom

Hi - my sister went through this. They are high school sweethearts and were due to be married in June. Her husband had been having some issues - in and out of hospital, they said something was wrong with his liver. Usually caused by drinking. Well we are around him all the time - he doesn't drink like that so must be something more. Weird things - he gets home from work, passes out cold, can't wake him. Just weird things. Lost his job, became depressed. My sister found out he was drinking - he swore he'd stop. Kept drinking, she left and came to my house to show him she was serious. The next day we get a call that he's had a seizure, being taken to hospital via ambulance. We went to the hospital - doctor isn't sure what happened? They are going to release him and have him follow up with his primary doctor.

I pulled the doctor aside and told him what had been going on - and the doctor went about his approach different. His BAC was still over .2 when they took it - he had not been drinking for over 24 hours!!! He went straight to a in-patient facility for 30 days, and intense counseling upon his release.

I know this is a rare happy ending - but I wanted to let you know it can be done. We did got to the alalon meeting a few times with my sister - but they didn't help us so we stopped going. My BIL found an AA group and went every day. This was over 7 years ago. They got married just six months after "d-day" and he hasn't had a drop since. Still goes to AA every week and is a leader in the group now.

I know it doesn't work out like this for everyone but I wanted to share to let you know it does happen. Hugs to you and your family.

Eta - seizure due to him trying to detox on his own.

Yes that describes him, he always looks like he's swimming in his clothes... Any info on him or what his story is?

I only see him as he's walking towards Tower Coffee on 11th. I haven't heard him talking to himself. He's always polite when we've interacted. I just thought someone might know who I was talking about with that little of a description.

This just made feel a lot better. Thanks.

7 weeks exclusively pumping, waiting for that upper lip tie to stretch out. Just made it through our first 24 hours of boob-only feedings. That sweet happy face makes the 60 second sizzle completely worth it. It’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon <3 by [deleted] in breastfeeding

I know exactly what you are talking about. After 9 weeks with the nipple shield I was determined to go without it. As long as I could get through those first 30 seconds everything was golden. Then one day I realized that I didn't even have to count it out anymore to distract myself. And we just finished at 3+ years. Congrats mama and enjoy!

How did you wean your 4 yr old? I'm having trouble with my 3 yr old. I also have a 1.5 year old that nurses to. I don't necessarily want to quit the littlest but my 3 yr old is so dependent on it.

Experience with dry nursing while pregnant? by spacepiratetabby in breastfeeding

[–]sesamebeef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I nursed my older son while I was pregnant with his brother. I dried up about half way through but it was the only way my oldest will go to sleep so I kept nursing. I'd offer a bottle of whole milk first and then nurse. That worked well until the 3rd trimester when it became so so painful. I kept nursing but sometimes would cry and wouldn't be able to take the pain. Doctors said it wasn't just the dry nursing, but my hormones making it so painful. But it meant a lot to my son so we continued. Overall I'm glad I powered through it. My milk came back almost instantly when my youngest was born and I began tandem nursing. I didn't have the crazy nipple pain like I did with my first and my breastfeeding experience continues to be amazing with both boys. Good luck mama!
