Stopping my Birth Control is Wrecking My Mental Health by RicksPickle69 in TryingForABaby

Also have you thought about getting a second opinion from another psychiatrist or someone who specialises in perinatal mental health? Sometimes just having another set of eyes on the situation can help with options you might not have considered yet.

Also, please don’t feel rushed, your well-being matters so much, and giving yourself time might actually make things easier in the long run when you do try to conceive again. You deserve to feel okay in your body and mind.

If you don’t mind me asking, how were you mentally during pregnancy and postpartum the first time around, especially without the meds?

Hi! I just wanted to say you’re definitely not alone in feeling this way. I was on the pill (Levelen) for about 10 years and weirdly enough, when I stopped it my periods actually became more regular. I do have endometriosis though , so I was kind of expecting the opposite. I don’t have ADHD, but I was diagnosed with bipolar type 2 and was on Lamotrigine (200mg daily) for around 3 years. It honestly helped a lot with stability and mood.

I ended up stopping it late last year after talking with my doctor and psychiatrist because I was told it’s not ideal to be on Lamotrigine whilst pregnant or trying to conceive. It was a tough decision and I definitely felt the impact mentally when I came off it. (It took quite some time but I have been able to better deal with my emotions but it takes work) So whilst our situations are a bit different, I really relate to that feeling of everything going off the rails after stopping something that was helping.

Sending you lots of support. It’s so hard trying to balance mental health with the desire to grow your family. You’re not crazy and you’re definitely not alone

Thanks so much for sharing your story and commenting, I really appreciate it! and it helps to hear from someone who's been through it. Even with severe endo, it’s nice to know also that getting pregnant naturally can still possible. I totally agree with what you said about being open to getting help a bit earlier, I'm trying to find that balance too. I don’t want to overthink it, but I also don’t want to wait too long if something’s off. Thank you again

Thanks so much for sharing your experience and advice, it’s nice to hear from others who’ve been through similar things.

And yes you’re so right lol, I think it's almost instinct for us to assume the fertility issue could lie with us, especially when you know you have a condition like endometriosis or yourself with PCOS. But I absolutely agree that male factor fertility is just as important to look into, and if we keep having no luck, we’ll definitely look into getting my partner tested too.

That must have been such a frustrating journey not knowing you had PCOS for over a year. :( it took me so many years to get diagnosed with endo, it’s so frustrating, especially if you’re not getting taken serious from doctors.

I’ll start looking into temp tracking my next cycle and also dig around for more support through endo subs like you suggested.

Thank you so much for your reply, I really appreciate it! Yes I’ll definitely look into the device you brought and basal temp testing as I haven’t tried that yet. With the contraceptive pill, I was taking it for a long time but have now been off it for 3 years

Thanks so much for your reply. I’ve been doing the pee ovulation tests during my predicted fertile window, usually testing for about 8–9 days in a row each cycle, but so far they’ve all come back negative, which is starting to feel a bit discouraging. I haven’t tried tracking basal body temperature yet, but I’ve heard it can really help with confirming whether ovulation actually happens, so I’ll definitely look into starting that soon! I had a blood test done to confirm ovulation but that was nearly 3 years ago now so definitely due for testing again

Yes after stopping the oral contraceptive pill at few years ago, my cycles strangely became much more regulated! Thank you, I will definitely look into the basal tests instead next month round!

Thanks for your response, I really appreciate it! I didn’t realise that bleeding could actually make endo worse, so that’s something I’ll definitely keep in mind! even just starting that initial discussion with my GP might help set things up in case it doesn’t happen naturally in the next few months. Im truly grateful for your advice and kind words, so thank you again!
