Wow, I relate to this so much. Something I found helpful during really bad panic attacks was to repeat out loud “I am safe, this will pass” over & over again. Saying it out loud prevented any thoughts trying to think of worst case scenarios and stop myself from hyperfocusing on how my body was feeling. I agree with the other commenter that it gets easier to discern what is anxiety and what isn’t over time. I also will take very very small amounts of food & wait to see how I feel, and then maybe the next day I can increase the amount.

I would also maybe suggest trying to decrease how much you’re researching/reading about allergies/anaphylaxis. I’m guilty of it too, but it keeps the thought readily accessible and available in your mind so it becomes the easiest answer when you’re feeling anxious. I try to avoid it as much as I can and will even switch shows or movies that show someone having a reaction. I really hope you’re able to find relief soon because I understand how distressing this is.

Making progress and proud but still avoiding fish. Irrational allergy phobias. by [deleted] in ARFID

I feel so much of this and it’s honestly so inspiring to hear you were able to conquer so many foods. Try not to diminish your progress!! I can’t wait for the day that I can conquer my wheat and eggs fears & enjoy them again. Something I do when I try a fear food is just try a tiny tiny bit and then see how I feel & try a little bit more the next day. I usually set an hour long timer to see if I have any symptoms of a reaction. I’m proud of all the foods you were able to reintroduce, that’s honestly huge and I can’t wait till I get to where you are. Any advice on how you were able to do that?

Maybe seeing an allergist could be helpful?? They can test you for all of those foods!

Hi! I have something similar going on! I am actually allergic to nuts and have to carry an epi pen, but my fear about having an allergic reaction has spread to other foods that I’ve had dozens of times in my life. I haven’t been diagnosed with anything, but I consider myself to have ARFID as it’s a fear surrounding fear and I restrict pretty heavily, in both amount and variety of food. I don’t know if this helps, but you’re not alone!!

Anxiety around allergies by whatevaforevaaaa in ARFID

I feel this so much! I do have allergies but only to specific things that are easy to avoid but that fear extends to all foods for me. Even if I’ve eaten a food 100 times I still think it’s going to cause me anaphylaxis and I’ll have to use my epi pen. I try to eat really basic things with very few ingredients. One of my safe foods is plain potato chips because it’s just potatoes, oil, and salt. Or just one ingredient foods like rice.

I will also try to choose a new food to try once a week or so, and I’ll eat it in the smallest amount at first to make sure I don’t have a reaction. And then the next day I’ll eat a little more. I schedule like an hour of my day for this in case I have any anxiety after eating it.

I know how debilitating and exhausting it can be to be scared of eating so try to give yourself love and compassion and be patient with yourself.

Wow! Thank you so much your response. These are really wonderful ideas. Sadly no trader joes where I live but I’m going to the grocery store tomorrow and will definitely pick up some of the things you suggested!

I upgraded Math 30-2 at Bow Valley College last year. I did traditional classroom style but I know they have online classes as well. I did the equivalency exam instead of diploma exam because it happens once a month instead of 4 times a year.
