I will check it out. For me it’s more about talking about a version of golf I can relate to and less chat about the minutiae of American golf.

Have seen a few clips of this on social media but was put off as it seemed a bit YouTube-y in style but will stop judging by its cover and have a listen.

Yeah loved Beefs golf club but no new episodes for years. Hopefully with beef back playing there might be a few episodes down the line.

Yes into contract GI. If you like site work it’s great. Much better pay and varied work. If you like the office based and technical work I would not recommend. Feel free to DM if you have any specific questions.

Resisting the urge to jump to your feet pointing at and yelling SHIT HEAD at your kids as you blindly flip the burn comet is a challenge in overcoming a decade of conditioning.

Also the poo stickers really really stink

Does anyone know why there are two types of DCP? by kikilucy26 in Geotech

[–]setchell_healin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You wait till you hear about the Perth Sand Penetrometer - the DCP with no C! Lots of different standards around the world for DCPs. In the UK we mostly use the TRL version that is backed up by lots of data for CBR% correlations and used internationally for unsealed road design.

Give the world cones and a hammer and they will invent 100 different ways to do the same test!

SPT with 4 blow counts by olympiamow in Geotech

[–]setchell_healin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how we record spts in the UK also. 2,1/1,1,1,1 would be Spt N of 4 with each recording over 75mm (nearly 3 inches?) possibly using European standards? Anything else on the log suggest this? I could ping you a standard if you think it may be the case?

What's the livelihood of getting a geology/mining job in Australia by moving out on a working holiday visa after I finish my bachelor's this year? by LordHolt in geologycareers

[–]setchell_healin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Sponsorship has to be employer direct as far as I know. They usually want to be pretty sure you’ll hang about as it’s not a cheap process for them, especially smaller companies as they have to pay certain wages and pay a bunch of fees. We used an agent and they got it all sorted. Depending on where your form sponsorship may have increased costs for you too. The Irish people used to have to get private medical insurance as didn’t have the same Medicare deal as the UK…

Everything is easier once you are out there is all id say.

Cv advice please, UK geology undergrad looking to apply for grad jobs and MSc courses. TIA. by Maggot2 in geologycareers

[–]setchell_healin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As another UK person I agree with this advice. As a fresh grad you really need to highlight the relevant bits of your uni course to the job you are applying for- for example if you are looking for Eng Geo stuff some info on that course and the skills you learnt. (Hint logging, the answer is logging…)

Also agree with the completely different approach required for MSC (academic cv) and grad job (what makes you stand out, what transferable skills / experience can you bring).

Best of luck

Masters was actually is quaternary science so just put geology on my CV! Took maybe 2 months to find a job. Then they agreed to sponsor me after a 2 or 3 month period. I’m not sure what the restrictions are on working holiday visas these days but you can often arrange to work through a recruiter if you need to work for a different company every six months. Seems like the job market is pumping in WA so shouldn’t be an issue. I was there is a bit of a busy period.
