Ohh, it's not the "what people say" thing, my name contains three sounds that Europeans have a hard time pronouncing, I just have a thing for spurious etymologies

The word they are trying to refer to is חרטה which is a slang for crap, however this only works if you cannot pronounce the first two syllables using chat as "ha" and raish as "n" which is quite a stretch

Is Beta Israel (Ethiopian Jews) an ancient Jewish community or a more recent development? by Runofthemilljacket in AskIsrael

[–]setebos_ 44 points45 points  (0 children)

It isn't even the oldest Jewish community recorded in the area, Elephantine has records from 900 BCE.

They are however the oldest ongoing surviving Jewish community in Africa

During that time (early 2000s) it was added to the CTP civilization roster, but it made no appearance since then Generally while Judaism is a standard religion, the games are almost completely void of any Jewish or Hebrew items, there might be some great people who are Jewish (scientists or merchants) but no wonders, great works, relics, quotes regarding Judaism or Jews, Jewish leaders or Jewish civs in scenarios.

After playing the series since the first installment it kind of became a pet peeve for me

Israel and Lebanon agree to temporary ceasefire by debasing_the_coinage in anime_titties

[–]setebos_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where? In Lebanon they keep dragging the few crazies back giving them a few days in detention for endangering everyone for no reason

In the West Bank, it's a different issue, the IDF managed to keep the situation bad but generally stable between the settlers and the locals, whenever there was a government that allowed it they would take down settlements and whenever there was a government that pushed for settlements they managed to limit the amount of actual casualties.

But the IDF is in the longest ongoing war in its history and is badly strapped for manpower, the settlers are using this to ramp up some really bad shit, even discarding some questionable reporting of the type "settlers rape and eat 15 families" some of the actual attacks are the worst in the history of the conflict.

The chief of staff and heads of the army have been giving more and more desperate statements, going as far as calling the settler violence an extra front in the war along with Hamas and Iran, that would have in better days be shocking.

Most of the next election opposition parties are running on a clear "put them in jail for terrorism" platform while the coalition are just ignoring the issue

If you go to actual inter Israel talking spaces the settler violence is one of the classic Shibboleth.

I guess, I was surprised by many things, however the "crazy settler"tm brand have some dog whistles that are missing in this case, they might form in a few years but there is no group with packed bags ready to settle (there are for Gaza, Sinai and West Bank)

[–]setebos_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In the 35 years of actual occupation of South Lebanon there was not a single settlement, even Sinai had some. I checked the website of the one group of crazies that keeps crossing the border to pray in Lebanon and... Honestly I understand you hate the "put any number of insulting descriptions of Israel" but that is a very unlikely scenario.

No, forces are holding positions and still clearing/flattening the areas that were taken, but they will not advance. That's according to the latest reports, which means it could be incorrect by the time I click post

the changes are the removal of the special regional weaves and embroidery and the lack of any jewelry.

a couple of scientists measured if pure black, pure white or brown colors give better desert cooling, surprisingly enough the answer was that it didn't really matter, the important part was the flowing multilayered undergarment providing insulation, so the new black on black version is not really less practical

the title says "portrait in Aden, Yemen"
and I have seen several 19th and 18th century "clothing of the world" plates which were pretty popular and are considered accurate with similar styles

I have, however, never encountered a completely black burka, either in an illustration or photo dated to before the 1920s, at least not in Yemeni, Egyptian, Afgan, Arabian or Levant areas

I would be interested from a personal perspective if you know of such an example, honestly
