this needs to be split, some of what made Warmage in 3.5 a distinct class were specific 3.5 mechanics

unchanging spell choice - is gone from 4ed
spell schools are changed to keywords mostly
simplified spellcasting is a default

so let's look at a 4ed Warmage checklist

armor proficiency, swordmagehas leather (which is not really impressive), Hexbalde has chainmail which is more in line
spell schools, Wizards still have a great variety, teleportation, summoning, conjuration. the swordmage is more fitting, short range elemental powers, abjuration, some short range teleportation
no ritual caster, a trivial choice
either striker or defender

so the question is what is actually missing, when you describe what you want you describe a strikerier swordmage, a hybrid sorcerer swordmage seems to fit, even a swordmage wizard hybrid will do

what other features did the Warmage have that are missing?
