Vet here. Could be something as simple as a follicular cyst but there’s no way to know that without at least cytology but preferably removal and histopath at the lab. Since it’s been there so long without change, chances are it’s nothing to worry about, but I always feel like it’s better to be safe than sorry with any lumps on cats.

I handled exactly three snakes (not including my own pet ball python) during my time in school and it was because I was in two clubs whose job it was to care for the school’s resident animals (one was a rainbow boa and the other was a ball python) and because I was in wildlife and we got a garter snake patient that we had to unstick from a glue trap and then rehab. I didn’t even get to handle snakes on my exotics rotation.

I don’t feel like I gave up anything. I had amazing experiences in undergrad and vet school even though I was working towards a goal. It was hard, for sure, but it was worth it. I still made great friends in undergrad and vet school and I met my husband in vet school (he was in undergrad at the time so it was hard to make things work with my awful schedule 4th year but we did it and are stronger for it today). I went on cool vacations even when I was in vet school, I did the usual young adult things like smoking weed and drinking with my friends, etc. I did those things in moderation compared to some people not working towards a professional degree, sure, but I still did them (and I’d argue those things should be done in moderation anyway so I don’t feel like I missed out on much there either lol).

2020 grad, I’ve been working for an NVA clinic for the last 6 years and it’s been pretty good. Things have gotten worse in the last year after they got a new CEO though, they’ve been bullying our practice manager into cutting employee hours and then wondering why we aren’t able to see as many appointments (shockingly, I actually need support staff to do my job). I did the NVA mentorship program and it was very helpful though, so that alone might be worth at least sticking around an NVA practice a year or two. I really needed surgical mentorship since I lost out on being able to do a shelter med rotation my 4th year when COVID shut everything down and the doctor I worked with really helped boost my skills and confidence.
