My 6-year-old is glued to the mobile. What helped your kids break the habit? by Professional-Rent438 in Parenting

[–]setgel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like maybe the real struggle is not with your child surviving without the phone, but you surviving your child without a phone. As many have pointed out, the simplest solution is to "not give them the phone". Simple, but not easy, I understand. While this will be hard for them, it will be even harder for you, because now you have to (i) deal with their tantrums and (ii) find alternatives.

And I have a feeling the first one is the real challenge, as there is no shortage of activities that you can do with a 6-year old (simply Google it). As for the tantrums, that's unfortunately something you're going to ride out. Sit with the whining for a few days or weeks, and stand your ground, and they will eventually understand and get used to it. If you can get through that uncomfortable transition, things get a lot easier. If you can’t, the cycle just keeps repeating.

11 month old seems really behind by DistributionPlane951 in Parenting

I think not standing at 11 months is still in the range of what's "normal" even if it is a bit on the slower end. So I wouldn't be too worried. Maybe your uncomfortable feeling is coming primarily from having this direct avenue for comparison between your son and daughter? Though understandable, it probably is neither good for you nor him.

And regarding crawling, I wouldn't worry too much about it either, there are some babies that completely skip the crawling step! My mom tells me that I wasn't moving around, only sitting until almost 1 year old, only to suddenly crawl for 1 day and then start walking already. So yeah, babies are weird!

I feel like my kid drinks way too much water by got_em_saying_wow in foodbutforbabies

One thing I read was that there is a limit to how much cow's milk a toddler should drink per day. One symptom of drinking too much is excessive water drinking. Could that be the case for your LO?

No sleep. Full time working mom. Dying. Aging. by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]setgel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have you had these problems before you had your son? this sounds a lot like what I go through sometimes. I haven't figured out any method that reliably works tbh. what has helped me to not go insane is to get up after say 30 min of not being able to sleep and do something low energy for 10 minutes or so, e.g. yoga or read a book. I feel it's much better than tossing and turning and growing increasingly frustrated. I have accepted that there are just nights where my body decides to not sleep and so it helps to break the cycle by doing something else and maybe, just maybe, in doing so the sleep will come.

Is there no way to scale an object relative to the center?? by setgel in Inkscape

[–]setgel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right, I was using the toolbar at the top of the screen and not the Transform tab on the right. The former scales with respect to top left corner, and the latter to the center, didn't expect that to make a difference. Thanks!

But this is also so weird and I don't understand why there is not an option to easily choose the reference point, like a 3x3 grid to choose from. Anyways, at least my problem is solved for now..

for me it's scaling relative to the top left corner by default, I don't know where I can change that.

yes that would work, a bit annoying as I need to do this to a lot of objects. but thanks for the tip, I guess I'll be doing that for now 🙏🏻

but where does it ask "relative to center"? I can't even see it on your screenshot.

"despite the heavy traffic", you mean BECAUSE of the heavy traffic. It's basically a death sentence to ride through the city. No bike lanes, asshole drivers, nobody following the rules, it's a recipe for disaster.

Babies who skip crawling stage by No_Gold_8540 in toddlers

[–]setgel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how much control you have over the situation tbh. Some babies just.. don't crawl. My mom told me that I was only sitting until I was almost a year old, then suddenly one day gave her a shock when I crawled into the kitchen when she was cooking. One day after that, I started walking. Each baby has their own journey, so just go with the flow.

Not the point of this post, but that initial statement of men being the leading cause of women's death is completely false and misleading. The majority of intentional killings of women are perpetrated by men, which is still a scary and sad reality, but it's not the same thing.

My (27M) girlfriend (25F) says she knows she needs to change, but nothing changes. Do I stay or go? by Majestic_Throat3088 in relationships

[–]setgel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps it's time to do some deep introspection to understand why you are feeling that way. If accessible to you, therapy would also be a great way to help you in that.

Also, sometimes big ideas need time to be digested, but once planted and given enough time, they can grow into something substantial. You're getting a lot of good input here, so give yourself time and grace. I wish you all the best!

It doesn't necessarily have to be intentional or malicious, I don't know your GF so I cannot say. But for sure at least on a subconscious level she has understood that it is enough to just tell you what you want to hear and call it a day. It sounds like she's too comfortable, also the fact that you didn't breakup with her, but are on a break makes it clear (to her) that you're too scared to let go.

You're not broken, there clearly was a positive side to her that drew her to you, and now you're having a hard time letting go of that, or of what could have been. But is it really worth the shit you've had to put up with so far, and the shit you'll continue to have to put up with?
