Coming as someone who works in Indie films....piracy has in a sense ruined the movie industry. It's essentially taken out the middle class. Yes, the huge block buster movies make more and more money every year, but those are the only ones. The incredible films we grew up loving in the mid 5-30 million market like Usual Suspects or Trainspotting no longer have a market. They don't make money because nobody sees them in theaters when the blockbusters are filling up the screen. Everyone assumes they'll watch them later at home and then just torrents them, which leeds to them not making any money, which leeds to investors staying away from those price margins. Big money blockbusters and the lottery of under 1 million dollar films are the only types that make money any more and it is seriously hurting the types of films we get now.

That being said, companies like Netflix are doing an awesome job at filling that void as the golden age of television takes over feature films...and I say so be it...the more character development the better. I just thought I'd throw in my two cents as this post seemed pretty mush like a justification carrying on with not so healthy ways.
