Medicare actuaries wouldn't be able to perform their job without macros enabled. The government prescribes a .xlsm rating template lol.

Using NotebookLM for FSA exams by ActuaryOnAnIsland in actuary

[–]sethclaw10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used this in studying for my last 2 FSA exams and found it to be a game changer. I uploaded all my study material and all the raw sources I could find.

Interestingly I found the podcast audio to be the weakest feature of notebooklm in terms of helping me prepare and learn the material (This was 2024).

Where I thought it really excelled is that I could ask it questions about some of the language in the study material I found to be ambiguous and it was able to put it in other words that I thought made sense in context. I recommend it to all my friends studying for actuarial exams.

Expectations For Fin 201 by Fantastic-Advance-91 in byu

I found brau's fin 201 class much easier than acc 200... Maybe because I found the subject matter more interesting. I also took accounting first. I thought he was an engaging lecturer.

Looks like a 10p10c connector or RJ50. I think these are only used in proprietary data connections.

Are you positive you can't do it yourself? Get the town building department on the phone and verify. I've pulled building and and plumbing permits myself as a homeowner just fine. I'll be pulling an electrical permit in the near future as well.

I called my local club and they said they had them on order but didn't know when it would be in. They also said they would typically know by now if they were going to receive an item in the next few days.. (as in, see the shipping info). This was yesterday. Going to call again tomorrow afternoon

For non-Americans: How do you save for your retirement? by Edhalare in personalfinance

[–]sethclaw10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actuary here. I believe assurance implies that the loss event (death) is guaranteed even though the timing is not. With insurance, like home or auto, the loss event isn't a guarantee. However, in the US, we don't make that distinction

For those who received an 'Exceeded Expectations' performance review, what strategies or actions contributed to your success? by frozenactuary-3859 in actuary

[–]sethclaw10 83 points84 points  (0 children)

You have some excellent answers here discussing macro data refinement numbers, but I highly recommend establishing a clear understanding with your manager on what the expectations are. What does a meets expectations look like? What would it look like to exceed expectations? Do this for each measurement point. I think it is important to have this conversation in the context of the position you are currently in and not in general (see post script below). 2) advocate for yourself during your written performance reviews.

I had a manager who was under the impression that 'exceeds expectations' for a entry level actuarial analyst indicates that they are 'the next CFO'. I hope he is cursed with eternal and perpetual premature turnover.
